2Ultimate Guide to Facebook Content

Why Did We Write This Book

You’ve heard the saying, ‘knowledge is power.’ We believe that ‘knowledge is potential power.’

It’s the same with Facebook. Facebook is potentially powerful for your business but it must connect you with your audience. It must be consistently filled with smart, valuable, entertaining and shareable content.

Most of the companies we coach are service-providers like CPA’s, life coaches, realtors, insurance agents, house cleaners, day-care service providers, etc. You want to build a strong relationship with your clients, customers, prospects and referral sources (friends and family, too)!

Facebook provides a powerful platform to build those relationships and showcase your business. As an added benefit, having a strong Facebook presence helps Google (and therefore, people) find you.

We want you to connect with your raving fans who recommend you to all their friends and family. We want you to be perceived as an expert and a true resource; to stay top-of-mind as someone they are excited to refer business to.

However, we know that you are busy. Balancing business hours and home and family responsibilities is no small feat!

One of the most asked questions we receive is ‘how do I consistently fill my Facebook page with creative, exciting and compelling content?’ This is why we put some of our best ideas into this e-book for you.

We have created a blueprint so that you fill your Facebook page with exciting content everyone will want to share – without overwhelming you.

We sincerely hope it makes a difference in your business and your life!

3Ultimate Guide to Facebook Content

Why Use Facebook?

Businesses are built on relationships. These days, relationships are enhanced (and sometimes started) on social media, with Facebook being the most popular social media platform to date.

Using Facebook for your service-based business has many benefits including:

• It’s free!• It is full of past clients, current clients, and prospective clients• It’s a smart way to add value to past clients and prospects• Keeps you top of mind with clients and referral sources• Can be used effectively without spending hours and hours a day

on it• Helps Google find you and, subsequently, helps people looking

for your services to find you• A great way to brand yourself, especially if you don’t already have

a website• Can give you a competitive advantage over those companies not

using it, or who are not using it well• Easy to fill with great content because there is so much content

already created around most industries

The Facebook platform is ideal for in a service-based, small business that’s where your ideal clients can be found.

Local Business PostsWe find a lot of service providers gain their best customers in their local market area (although, of course, there are exceptions). If you are a local business, it’s would be a smart, strategic idea to become the go-to person for everything happening in the town your business is in.

Here are some ideas on what you can post:

• Pictures (or video) of local shops: What do they sell? What makes them special?Do they have weekly specials?Do they have events coming up?

• Feature articles about attractions in the area:Museums, exhibits, national parks and special events happening

• Upcoming things happening in and around the area:New movie theatre, new neighborhoods, new restaurants – take pictures and share what you know (any information/articles from your local newspaper, too.)

Clients love to work with kind, honest, loyal, and funny people. Making someone laugh and showing that you have a sense of humor can endear you (and your business) to them. Making others smile can go a long way towards building a trusting, loyal relationship. In addition, we all like to share posts that make us laugh so this type of content gets shared more than other types!

Bottom line – be sure to add a little fun and humor to your Facebook page.

Here are some places to find and create some fun:

• JibJab.com

• Funny Videos from YouTube.com

• Create your own video – tell a silly joke related to your industry

• Far side cartoons

• Someecards.com

• Take advantage of Throwback Thursdays (#TT). On a Thursday, share a picture of someone in your profession from years ago and ask people to guess what year it is from. Be sure to use the

hashtag #TT.

(For example, we always find it fascinating looking at pictures from offices in days gone by.)

Referral BuildingRecommending local businesses and people you do business with like restaurants, bakeries, gift shops, lawn care services, plumbers, cleaning services, etc. is a great way to help your fans find great places to find what they need.

It also enhances your relationship with the local community and helps build your referral business! If you help others, they will help you!! Good will breeds good will.

Here are some ideas:

• Share other businesses posts. Each week set aside 20 minutes to spend on Facebook (set a timer if you need to) to share posts from great services providers you have used or work with – financial planners, pest control companies, photographers, vacation planners, local garden centers, etc.Be sure to also share any specials they offer throughout the year

• Records seasonal videos at various local businesses.Feature a bakery during Valentine’s Day, a gift shop during the Christmas season, showcase a flower shop prior to Mother’s Day, etc.

• Thank service providers who provide exceptional service. For example, ‘My thanks to Bob’s Painting Professionals for doing such a beautiful job repainting our home office.’ Be sure to share before and after pictures of the remodel.

About You & Your BizAs you know, you do not want to make your Facebook page all about you. You don’t want your visitors and fans to feel like you are always trying to ‘sell’ them something. You want to ensure you are a resource.

However, you do want people who are visiting your page to learn about you, your team, your services and what you can do for them.

Here are some ideas you can post:

Your work in the community

Be sure to share pictures, video and information about any nonprofit work you do in the community• Do you volunteer for Habitat for Humanity?• Do you work with Meals on Wheels? • Do you spend time helping a pet charity?

Your servicesTell people about your services and share a link to more informationUse video to show people around your officeUse video to show how you work with people – visiting them for an estimate, writing up their quote, providing them the quote and then doing the work

Your team membersPost a photo of one of your team members and tell us something interesting about them.

Your happy customers/clientsPost pictures of you and your happy customers. Record a video testimonial and post it. Nothing says ‘this person knows what she’s doing’ better than a picture of happy customers! Don’t be afraid to ask! After the benefit you have made to their life, they will happily tell everyone how wonderful you are!

12Ultimate Guide to Facebook Content

Setting a Schedule

Here is a sample schedule to consider:

Monday

Post a motivational quote (a great way to start the week!)

Tuesday

Post an article your fans would find useful, ie: “Top 10 Ways to Remodel a Room for Under $100”

Wednesday

Post about you or your lead generation item. Do you offer a free report, tip sheet or webinar if they sign up for your newsletter?

Thursday

Share a post from a local business

Friday

Post about a local event happening over the weekend, and possibly where they can find discounted tickets

Saturday

Post something funny or entertaining (see Fun Stuff page).

Sunday

Post something about your business, your team, your

products, testimonials, etc.

One of the smartest things you can do to easily fill your Facebook page with great content is to set a schedule for yourself, find the appropriate content, and schedule the posts to show up on specific days.

Having your posts scheduled in advance helps ensure consistency, but if you have something that comes up during the week you can certainly post these as well. Schedule 1-2 posts per day, but you can always add a few additional posts each day as exciting or topical items come up.

Schedule Posts

1. Schedule directly on Facebook

We recommend this option, as it appears Facebook favors posts that have been scheduled directly in their system.

Here are the instructions direct from Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/help/389849807718635

However, scheduling a post is really quite simple.

a) Setup a post like you normally would (the sample below includes a link to a blog and an image).

b) Click the drop down arrow next to ‘Publish’ and select ‘Schedule.’

c) Then choose your date and click ‘Schedule.’

So now that you have your content sourced and your weekly schedule all set, you need to schedule those posts to show up on your page.

There are 2 ways to do just that:

1. Schedule directly on Facebook

2. Schedule using a third party application.

Page 14: ULTIMATE GUIDE TO FACEBOOK CONTENTsixfigurebusinesscoaching.com/.../Ultimate-Guide-to... · Ultimate Guide to Facebook Content 7 Your Industry Posts Interior Designer • Seasonal

14Ultimate Guide to Facebook Content

Schedule Posts2. Use a Third Party

There are many, many third party applications that can also post to Facebook. Often times they also provide other assets like additional statistics and the option to post on other social networks. However, most charge fees for their services.

Here are some of the most popular ones:

• Hootsuite.com

• Buffer.com

• MeetEdgar.com

• Everypost.me

• Socialoomph.com

• SproutSocial.com

Have you ever reached the end of your day and thought, ‘Oh crap! I didn’t post anything on Facebook today!’? And then you beat yourself up for a while?

Don’t do that. Recognize that you have an incredibly busy schedule. Do some pre-planning during slower times of the day/week/month and schedule those posts. Go to bed each night knowing your social media profile is being filled with great content every day.

Scheduling your social media posts can be key when it comes to relieving you of the overwhelming task of posting every day on social media.

Also, why not use this e-book as the framework for your system/process for posting on Facebook? Then, you can consider hiring an intern or an assistant to handle the posting for you.
