CEO Red Kite Animation

A BAFTA award winning producer with over 20 years experience in the animation industry. Ken co-founded Red Kite in Edinburgh, in 1997, and has since led the company to become an established international producer of children’s content. Collective credits include 64 Zoo Lane (BAFTA nominee) and Pablo the Little Red Fox (BAFTA winner 2000). The company, its founders and partners have been honoured with many awards including BAFTAs, Emmys, CableAces, Pulcinellas, Grammys and also an Academy Award.Since setting up Red Kite he has been active in the global media scene developing and producing a number of highly successful children’s animated programmes for television. Some of these successes include Wilf the Witch’s Dog; The Secret World of Benjamin Bear; the 65 episode series The Imp; Dennis & Gnasher (CBBC - series 3 & 4); Wendy (ZDF / France TV); Marvo the Wonder Chicken (Disney XD) and International Kids Emmy 2013 nominated Best Animation Series – Ask Lara.

3Greg Childs

Editorial Director The Children’s Media Conference

Greg Childs worked for over 25 years at the BBC, mainly as a director, producer and executive-producer of children’s programmes. He created the first Children’s BBC websites and, as Head of Children’s Digital, developed and launched the children’s channels, CBBC and CBeebies. Greg left the BBC in 2004 and has since advised producers on digital, interactive and cross-platform strategies, and broadcasters on channel launches, digital futures and management support. He was in the launch teams for Teachers TV and the CITV Channel in the UK, and was advisor to the Al Jazeera Children’s Channel for three years. He is currently consulting with the European Broadcasting Union on their Children’s and Youth strategy. At the same time, as Editorial Director of the Children’s Media Conference, Greg has grown this annual event into a gathering of over 800 delegates, with 150 speakers, and spin-off events and activities year-round. He is also one of the Heads of Studies at the German Akademie für Kindermedien, and has recently taken on the role of Director of The Children’s Media Foundation. Greg was made a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in 2010 in recognition of his contribution to children’s rights and culture.

Helen Brunsdon

Animation Producer and Consultant

With twenty years experience, Helen has worked extensively in the animation industry, firstly joining the BBC as a production co-ordinator and then as an assistant for the Cardiff International Animation Festival. Joining Aardman in 1993, she established herself within production and was approached by S4C to produce two World Faith animated films. She then worked as a production manager on Wife of Bath directed by Joanna Quinn and produced by Les Mills, which received an Academy Award nomination and a host of other awards at major International Animation Festivals. In 1999 Helen returned to Aardman Animations where she played an important part in developing new projects for Aardman’s Broadcast production slate and heading up the short film content, executive producing the BAFTA winning The Pearce Sisters. Since December 2008 she has worked as a freelance animation producer and consultant for clients including ArthurCox, Brothers Mcleod, Wonky, Snapper-Films, South West Screen, Children’s Media Conference and CBBC.

The Brothers McLeod series Quiff and Boot which Helen produced recently won a Children’s BAFTA. In addition to her busy work schedule she finds time to programme animation and moderate sessions for festivals, sit on the board for South West Screen, Animated Exeter, the British Animation Awards and is a visiting lecturer in animation. She has been on the advisory board for the Cheltenham Screenwriters’ Festival and Animated Encounters and was a special jury member for SICAF, Seoul Animation festival in 2004, Trickfilm festival, Stuttgart in 2007 and Supinfocom 2008. She also co-hosts a local animation forum.

Founder and CEO Serious Lunch Ltd

Genevieve has worked in children’s television entertainment for over 20 years. She is best known for founding London based CAKE Entertainment, which won best distributor/investor at both Kidscreen and Cartoon Forum 2009. Having sold the company in 2010 she set up Serious Lunch in 2011 to assist companies in all areas of IP exploitation and finance. Genevieve has managed the international commercial exploitation of multi platform television programmes such as Total Drama Island which was CAKE’s break out success in the US and managed the international roll out of the interactive and television programming for many series over the years. Genevieve’s Executive Producer credits include the following animated series: Ebb & Flo with Canning Factor, FIVE, Hahn Film & WDR; King Arthur’s Disasters for ITV and Zenith (BAFTA nom); Edgar & Ellen for Nickelodeon USA and Star Farm; Skunk Fu! for BBC, Super RTL (BAFTA nom) and Angelo Rules for TeamTo, France 3, RAI and Cartoon Network.

Gina Fegan

CEO D-Media & the South East Media Network Board

Gina is a Screen & Digital Media Specialist at UK Trade & Investment and is an international specialist on the emerging relationships between traditional media, new technologies and telecommunications. She advises global media companies, financing organisations, creative content producers and public sector agencies. Gina is on the BBC online advisory board, the advisory committee for Digital Hollywood and is a member of BAFTA. Gina recently founded the D-Media Network, which is a member of UK-wide Onedigital and the EU Digital Think Tank.

Marc Dhrami

Head of Production Financing and Co-Productions Gaumont Alphanim

A graduate of the Business School of Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Marc Dhrami, aged 40, started in animation in 1998 at the Studio Dargaud-Marina as Post-production Supervisor and then Head of Production. He joined Millimages in 2000 to organize and control the manufacturing of Millimages series in its outsourced exclusive partners or subsidiaries in Ukraine, Romania, Poland and India. Head of Productions on Millimages’ series and animated movies since 2005, he recently joined Gaumont Animation as Head of financing and co-productions.

Jackie Edwards

Executive Producer, Animations and Acquisitions CBeebies

Jackie is Executive Producer, Animation and Acquisitions for CBeebies – the U.K.’s foremost dedicated pre-school television channel. Prior to joining CBeebies in October 2008, Jackie worked as an animation producer and consultant working on many prestigious and award-winning animated series and specials in the Independent sector, from BAFTA, RTS, Prix Jeunesse and Prix Danube winning The First Snow of Winter BBC1 through to the Pulcinella winning Frankenstein’s Cat for CBBC and France 3. At CBeebies, Jackie manages the Animation and Acquisitions slate and she is Executive Producer on many of CBeebies animated series, such as Tree Fu Tom, Driver Dan’s Story Train, The Octonauts, Raa Raa the Noisy Lion and Rastamouse.

Creative Director Blue Zoo

Oli Hyatt has been Creative Director at Blue Zoo for 12 years, helping it thrive through difficult times for the animation industry. His most recent show Olive the Ostrich is a huge hit on Nick Jr, and has been sold right around the world. He is the Director of Alphablocks Limited, the company behind CBeebies Phonics show Alphablocks, as well as being the chair of AnimationUK. He has been Broadcast’s ‘Young Animator of the Year’ and the Guardian’s ‘Young Businessman of the Year’ and has received two BAFTA nominations for Those Scurvy Rascals and Stitch Up Showdown. He also sits on the BAFTA children’s committee.

Moses Nyachae

Director, Film & TV Saffery Champness

Moses is a Director in the Film & TV department of Saffery Champness, providing specialist advice on accessing and maximising the UK film tax credit. He has substantial experience in UK film tax breaks for both co-productions and Schedule 1 British qualifying films and works very closely with HMRC and the BFI on all matters relating to the UK Film Tax Credit. He has also been closely involved in the consultation process regarding the new tax credits for High End TV, Animation and Video Games, all of which follow the same principles as the existing film tax credit.

Moses acts for a number of US studios as well as UK and European production companies and over the past 8 years has worked on blockbusters, Hollywood films and art house titles alike. Most recently he has advised productions such as Thor 2, Skyfall, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, The King’s Speech, John Carter, Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Welcome to the Punch, Hugo, Captain America, Total Recall and Prometheus.

Anna Mansi

Head of Certification BFI

Anna has been part of the Certification Unit team for eight years. She started as a Certification Analyst whilst the unit was still with the Department for Culture, Media and Sport dealing with British film applications under the old tax relief schemes. She moved with the team to the UK Film Council in April 2007 and was instrumental in the introduction of the cultural test for films.

Anna became the Certification Manager in February 2010 prior to the Unit’s move to the BFI in April 2010. She has an extensive knowledge of the cultural test and co-production treaties and has been assisting government with the structure of the cultural tests for the new creative sector reliefs as well as leading the BFI’s responses to the Government consultations on the new reliefs. As Head of Certification Anna works closely with key stakeholders in government and industry to provide advice and guidance on the application processes for the cultural test, co-production and policy. Since DCMS confirmed in February that the BFI Certification Unit will administer the new cultural tests, Anna has been working to ensure all processes are in place in time for the introduction of the new reliefs.

Sarah Muller

Head of Acquisitions and Drama Development CBBC

Sarah Muller is currently Head of CBBC Acquisitions and Drama Development. Passionate about both drama and animation, commissioned projects include Spirit Warrior, Dr Who – Dreamland, Halfmoon Investigations, My Almost Famous Family, Tracy Beaker’s Back, Strangehill High, Sadie Jones, Wolf Blood, Just William and Muddle Earth – which she is also Executive Producing. Previously, Sarah was Managing Director of Elephant Productions – a well-known company specialising in the development and production of animation and children’s programming.

Executive Director/ Deputy CEO Creative Skillset

Creative Skillset is the Creative Industries’ Sector Skills Council. Kate is responsible for industry partnerships and policy across all of the creative sectors and she works at senior level on all skills, training and development issues. Kate also leads Creative Skillset’s work on education policy and in particular the strategy for industry-led partnerships, including the Creative Skillset Academy Network and kite-marking arrangements. Kate was the founding member of Creative Skillset, which was set up as industry lead body in 1992. Since that time Creative Skillset has developed from a standard-setting body to being the first “Trailblazer” sector skills council to be licensed and at the fore front of industry and national skills and policy development. Prior to joining Creative Skillset, Kate worked at City and Guilds of London Institute. There she managed a small consultancy team with an extensive employer client base offering bespoke qualifications and assessment arrangements. 

Mike started his career in the music business working for a number of record companies, latterly as International Director of Chrysalis Records. Mike is chair of the Children’s and Animation Policy Group for the film and television producers’ trade association PACT; he is also a trustee of the Television Workshop. Novel Entertainment specialises in the creation and development of successful children’s character brands across a wide array of media.  The company has produced over 650 programmes for television, both animated and live action, as well as a number of children’s stage and radio shows, and Horrid Henry: The Movie.

Previously, Kate worked in the Department for Employment in various roles connected to skills and training policy. Kate is a non-executive board member of Improving Business Performance, a business and development consultancy and IIP quality assessment centre. She chairs the Film Education 21st Century Leadership Group and represents the industry on many consultative and government policy advisory committees. Kate is a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a member of BAFTA.

Mike Watts

CEO Novel Entertainment

Mike Watts is CEO of independent producers Novel Entertainment.  His career in the entertainment industry has spanned television, music, video and film.  Prior to setting up Novel with producer Lucinda Whiteley in 2001, Mike was Senior Vice President of Programming for Walt Disney International Television with overall responsibility for programming the international Disney Channels. Previously he had been Managing Director of leading drama producer, World Productions, and before that was Managing Director of Production at Central Independent Television.  Prior to joining Central Mike was Managing Director of Virgin Vision, the video and film distributor, where he was instrumental in the financing of a number of independent feature films.
