2011 MATRIC RESULTS University of Johannesburg’s Faculty of Economic & Financial Sciences together with their life-time friends DeBeers Consolidated Mines Ltd have done it Again! Funded by De Beers Consolidated Mines Ltd and taught by the veteran lecturers and students of the Faculty of Economic & Financial Sciences, UJ – De Beers Saturday School based in Soweto Campus tipped the scales again in 2011 matric exams. This year seven (7) students in the commerce arm of the school shared among themselves total of eleven (11) distinctions in accounting, mathematics and economics. The school reported a total of 60 distinctions which were shared by 44 learners according to ntate Tsepo Monaledi, manager: public and corporate affairs at De Beers, who also chairs the school’s board. According to Blessy Sekome (coordinator), the commerce arm again pride itself with the remarkable performance of the golden girls, Yolanda (pictured above) who obtained 97% in accounting, 87% in economics and 82% in mathematics and Nonkululeko Zwane with 87% in accounting and 94% in economics. Nonkululeko Zwane, Blessy Sekome (Co-ordinator) & Yolanda Sibanda Delivering the closing speech at the awards ceremony held at Soweto Campus on Saturday, 14 January 2012 where seven commerce learners received merit awards for their outstanding performance, is Ms. Londiwe Sigudu (Pictured above) who was our golden girl in the group that made a mark in November 2010 matric exam. She entered the doors of the University of Johannesburg registering for B Com (Chartered Accountancy) last year with distinctions in mathematics, accounting and economics. This amazing girl continued to live the distinctions culture that she adopted at the school and proudly she obtained eight (8) distinctions in her first year of study last year. Ms. Londiwe Sigudu in the closing speech thanked University of Johannesburg & De Beers Consolidated Mines Ltd and encouraged 2012 matrics to work hard this year! “We do not aim to produce Chartered Accountants, we aim to produce the best CAs…..” Mr. Mphoya Thobela, Social Specialist at De Beers and the Principal of the Saturday School.
