Informix Warehouse Accelerator for Smarter Business Intelligence
Analytics at the Speed of Thought!
What is it? How is it different?
The Informix Warehouse Accelerator (IWA) is a
workload optimized, appliance-like, add-on, that
enables the integration of business insights into
operational processes to drive winning strategies.
It accelerates select queries, with unprecedented
response times.
Performance. Unprecedented response
times to enable 'train of thought' analysis
frequently blocked by poor query
performance.
Integration. Connects to IDS through deep
integration providing transparency to all
applications.
Transparency. applications connected to
IDS, are entirely unaware of IUWE
Simplified administration. appliance-like
hands-free operations, eliminating
database tuning tasks

Informix TimeSeries for Management of Interval Data
• Time Series (interval) data is:
– A set of data where each item is time-stamped
• Think of an array where each element is indexed by time
• Most useful when reading a range of data
– “Give me Jan 1st thru Jan 10th elements from time series “X”
• Access to one time series is usually completed before moving to the
next time series
A New Meter Data Management (MDM) Benchmark
• WHO
– IBM – AMT-SYBEX (IBM Business Partner; provider of
solutions for Energy & Utility companies
• WHAT
– Joint benchmark test of AMT-SYBEX’s MDM solution, Affinity MeterFlow, using IBM Informix TimeSeries software to manage smart meter data
– Tests conducted using a single IBM POWER7® system, utilizing 16 cores.
• WHEN and WHERE
– Performed at the IBM Power Systems Benchmark Center; Montpellier, France
– August 2011
Unprecedented MDM Benchmark Results
• 100 million meters!
– End-to-end processing time < 8 hours (30-minute intervals)
• 10 million meters!
– End-to-end processing time < 36 minutes (30-minute intervals)
• Linear results!
– Overall processing time remained constant with increased historical
data
– Storage usage remained linear with increasing data
• 31 days of meter data used < 4TB of standard storage
Informix Genero for Smarter Development of Mobile and Cloud-based Apps
• Deploy apps faster with easy, graphical tools
– Deploy in browser-based, GUI, Windows or mobile and cloud

Meter Data Management (MDM) benchmark used Informix TimeSeries technology
built on top of high performing Informix database engine
MDM benchmark IWA performance tests demonstrate Informix can meet any
performance challenge across a broad spectrum of industries
Leverages Informix’s dynamically scalable multi-threaded architecture
Exploits efficient checkpoints, direct I/O, optimal disk fragmentation etc.
Exploits hardware capabilities (e.g. IWA benchmark) for maximum performance
The Benchmarks proved Informix database specifically solves a key data
management challenges which other database cannot solve without massive
hardware.
Expect to recruit new partners and win new business as result of interest generated
by these benchmarks
MDM Benchmark helped created visibility and re-vitalize Informix within IBM GBS
and S&D teams who are focusing on IBM’s Smarter Planet solutions
IWA Performance results are generating significant interest from Informix install base
for mixed workload applications
