Uganda Coffee Development Authority EXCITING EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY Deloitte (Uganda) Limited is seeking to recruit a suitably qualified individual for the position of Managing Director on behalf of our client, Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA). UCDA is established as a public Authority, and its mandate is to promote and oversee the coffee industry by supporting research, promoting production, controlling coffee quality, and improving the marketing of coffee in order to optimize foreign exchange earnings for the country and payments to the farmers. UCDA's Vision is 'A sustainable coffee industry with high stakeholder value for social economic transformation' and its mission is "To facilitate increase in quality coffee production, productivity, and consumption". Its core values are; Leadership, Integrity, Teamwork, Client Focus, Accountability and Professionalism. In order to achieve Its mandate, UCDA Is desirous of recruiting a motivated and competent professional to fill the position of Managing Director. The Managing Director will be answerable to the Board of Directors. Job Reference Number: UCDA/MD/04/2016 Job Summary To provide strategic leadership and direction to UCDA, promote its long term growth and financial sustainability, and oversee the Authority's day-to-day operations, management of funds, property and business, and the administration, organization and supervision of other Officers and Staff of the Authority. 1. Strategy development, planning and reporting Give direction and leadership towards the achievement of UCDA's mission, strategy, goals and objectives; Enable the Board fulfil its governance function as a Member of the Board of Directors; Formulate UCDA's strategies and objectives, and bring them to the Board for discussion and ratification; Prepare and submit budgets, work plans and performance reports to the Board for approval; Ensure that all financial and non-financial reporting requirements are met on a timely and regular basis where required. 2. Financial Management Control the regularity and proper use of money appropriated to UCDA; Authorise commitments made by UCDA; Control resources received, held or disposed of by or on account of UCDA; Establish effective systems of risk management, internal control and internal audit; Take overall responsibility for the execution of the procurement and disposal processes in UCDA. 3. Relationship Management Develop and maintain effective strategic relationships with key stakeholders, clients and partners; Maintain and develop UCDA's organizational culture, values and reputation in the coffee sub-sector and with all staff, clients, suppliers, partners and other government departments and bodies; Develop a wide range of relationships and networks within the national, regional and international coffee fraternity in order to position UCDA as a partner in the coffee industry; Ensure the development of effective and innovative lobbying strategies to stakeholders and Government in order to promote interest in UCDA and its activities; Represent Government and liaise with Inter-Governmental Coffee Organisations and other International Organisations. 4. Operations Management Ensure that the day-to-day operations of UCDA are effectively and efficiently coordinated and implemented within the framework agreed to by the Board; Ensure timely and cost effective implementation of key projects undertaken by UCDA; Direct the functions and performance of the senior management team; Ensure that the operations of UCDA are run on a commercially viable basis. 5. Staff Management and Leadership Recruit, select and develop the senior management team; Ensure the recruitment of appropriately skilled staff to other positions, and the establishment of appropriate remuneration levels and performance-based conditions for staff within a framework agreed by the Board; Build and maintain a high performance culture through effective performance management, communication and coaching; Provide clear leadership, promote and foster a team culture consistent with UCDA's values. Skills and Qualifications Education A Master's degree from an internationally recognized University in any of the following fields: Sciences (i.e. Agriculture or Food Science & Technology); Economics (i.e. Agricultural or Development); Management Sciences (i.e. Business Administration, Business Leadership, or Organizational Psychology or Public Administration). A Bachelor's degree from an internationally recognized University in any of the following fields: Agriculture (Specializing in Crop Science); Economics (Specializing in Agriculture or Development); Commerce or Business Administration (Specializing in Accounting, Finance, or Management). Skills and ability Ability to inspire, lead, motivate and empower others towards the achievement of UCDA's goals; Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with key stakeholders to facilitate the accomplishment of UCDA's objectives; Ability to formulate strategies and policies, translate them into strategic activities, and create new approaches; Ability to assimilate complex issues and use appropriate communication strategies to influence wide and diverse audiences; Ability to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge, experience and understanding of local and national government business, the agricultural or specifically the coffee sector, as well as constitutional and accountability principles related to the machinery of government statutory bodies; A good and resilient negotiator with sound judgement and demonstrated understanding of corporate governance and ethics Experience At least Ten (1 0) years' relevant experience in the Agricultural sector or coffee sub-sector; Five (5) years of which must have been acquired while holding a senior Executive position in Government or Statutory Body or reputable organization in the coffee sub-sector. Experience in International Relations or Coffee Trade will be an added advantage. EXCITING EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY Deloitte (Uganda) Limited is seeking to recruit a suitably qualified individual for the position of Managing Director on behalf of our client, Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA).
