Drawing is a way of
thinking/definition
Drawing is a way of
comunication/persuasion
When you draw and when you are learning to draw it is equally relevant
WHAT you draw
HOW you draw
For a complete and comprehensive understanding of drawing, it is necessary to address in parallel both views.
Drawing is the main language of archi-tects. As in any language it can be explained in three levels: normative, figurative and creative. During this semester we will deal, especially, with the first two levels.

When you draw, there are a number of aspects or properties always come into play and are revealed or manifested in any drawing. These properties will be studied during the all course.
The use of these parameters is never the same and is closely related to the very act of draw-ing. In some drawings, they are a direct tool to say “what” and in other cases they are a simple “how to say so”.

D r A w I N gDIMENSION
DIMENSIóN(Del lat. dimensĭo, -ōnis)
1. f. Aspecto o faceta de algo.
5. f. Mús. Medida de los compases.
The purpose of Drawing, belongs to the real world or to the imaginary and has infinite dimensions. The common support on which the drawing is done has
two dimensions
One of the targets with drawing is to increase the number of dimensions drawn.
In other words, we aim TO InCreAse The DensITy Or AMOunT OF InFOrMATIOn per unIT OF
surFACe/AreA.
There are many strategies to achieve this.
DIMENSION
1. (often plural) A measurement of the size of something in a particular direction, such as the length, width, height, or diameter2. (often plural) scope; size; extent 3. Aspect 4. mathematics. the number of coordinates required to lo-cate a point in space 5. physics
The product or the quotient of the fundamental physical quantities (such as mass, length, or time) raised to the ap-propriate power in a derived physical quantity. The power to which such a fundamental quantity has to be raised in a derived quantity.

The support on which the drawing is done demands to set a proportional relATIOnshIp between the real size or the natural size of the object to draw and the support in which it is drawn. This relationship implies a process of abstraction. The scale can be numerical, graphical and/or visual. The more abstract way of expressing the scale is the numerical.
scale amplifies (enlarges) or synthesizes (diminishes). Ar-chitects generally synthesize or simplify the information rather than amplify it. And at the same time, we seek to increase the density of information.
Therefore, we must find a balance between the amount of information and the scale of each drawing.

hierarchy means TO OrDer, to separate, to differ, to categorize the information WIThIn A sysTeM, Ar-rAngeD In grOups In A grADeD OrDer.
It is a vIsuAl grADATIOn, an increasing or decreasing sequence. The easiest development is composed of two steps or phases: yes/no, full/empty, built/not built, sec-tion/projection, static/mobile, first plane / back plane, up/down, etc.
There are infinite ways TO sepArATe InFOrMATIOn: by the type of drawing, by the conventional elements, thickness, intensity, type and color of lines; hatches, col-or, scale, overall composition of the drawing, etc.

To paint well is simple this: to put the right color in the right place.” Paul Klee
Color in drawing can assume different roles or functions: To label (color as noun)To order (color as hierarchy)To measure (color as quantity)To represent or imitate reality (color as representation)To enleven or decorate (color as beauty)

Like any language, Drawing deals with information. The codification, or rather, the drawing’s information coding degree, also establishes a base to define pos-sible drawings classifications.

Deviation has to do with using graphic lan-guage in an unusual or “figured” way (rheto-ric). Through a parallelism with verbal/writ-ing language, drawing frequently relies on the use of Deviations of meaning, Deviations of structure Deviations from standardization
