How have UCU law graduates performed in LDC pre-law entry examinations? UCU Law Alumni continue to excel in LDC pre entries. This year UCU was the best private university and second best University overall in terms of having the highest number of students passing the 2017 LDC pre-entry exams. Tell us about any future plans for the UCU law faculty. We are training our law students to look beyond training as Advocates at LDC. We have introduced German, French and Kiswahili so as to make our law graduates internationally marketable. We are also in partnerships with International Institutions such as the International Criminal Court, International Committee of the Red Cross and a number of United Nations Agencies where our students can undertake internships with a possibility of future employment. We have also entered into partnerships with a number of foreign-based Law Schools for student and staff exchange as well as study scholarships for our students. These include Strathmore Law School in Kenya, University of Illinois and University of Cincinnati – both in the United States of America. Your last word Our Law Faculty is following international trends in the establishment of a legal aid clinic under our John Sentamu Institute of Human Rights and International Humanitarian law. This will provide free legal services to needy persons within the Mukono community and the surrounding areas. Uganda Christian University (UCU) is a not-for-profit University established by the Church of Uganda (COU) in 1997 in response to a call for quality university education. In 2004, UCU became the first private University to be chartered by the Government of Uganda. UCU offers over 70 diploma, degree, masters and PhD programmes, which are designed to develop a cadre of professionals with integrity, power of critical inquiry, logical thought and independent judgment with a Christian perspective. UCU admits students in three intakes of Easter (January), Trinity (May) and Advent (September) Semesters. UCU graduates are in demand in the job market because of a long-term built track record of alumnus employability and professionalism that is synonymous with the UCU brand. Besides her Main Campus in Mukono, UCU has two constituent colleges at Bishop Barham University College, Kabale and UCU Mbale University College, plus campuses in Kampala and Arua. The modern sports complex gives students and staff a healthy balance of study/work and exercise. UCU has a gym that is fully furnished with modern equipment. Popular sports at UCU include: football, rugby, basketball, volleyball, netball, handball, woodball, tennis, athletics and many other indoor games. UCU has a good record of sporting activities and her teams have won several championships and sporting accolades. Modern Library & Beautiful Campus UCU’s well-equipped modern Hamu Mukasa Library offers a conducive learning environment that enhances learning and research goals. It sits 1,200 people, stores over 250,000 volumes and has more than 200 computers in the open terrace. UCU students access online library resources and services. Halls of Residence & Dining UCU has homely halls of residence equipped with computer laboratories and high speed internet connectivity. UCU enjoys 75 percent WiFi coverage. UCU trains lawyers to think outside the box. Based on the University theme of providing “A Complete Education for a Complete Person”, we also ensure that our students are well grounded in all aspects of the law and are morally upright. What are some of the achievements of the UCU Law faculty over the years? UCU Law students have excelled in a number of competitions over the years. These include winning National and International Moot Court and Essay writing Competitions in International Humanitarian Law; Human Rights Law; Intellectual Property Law; and Constitutional law. In 2015, the Faculty also published a first-of-its-kind text book titled: “Legal Ethics and Professionalism: A Handbook for Uganda.” Furthermore, many of our Alumni have gone on to become Politicians, Judicial officers, and senior members of the legal profession in different capacities within Our graduates speak French, German, Kiswahili and are allowed to work in the United Kingdom, South Africa and Nigeria.
