The UCI Writing Project is celebrating the 37th year of its Summer Youth Program! Since its establishment in 1984, the Summer Youth Program has continued to grow and thrive, impacting thousands of students from around the globe. In addition to the Young Writers and Young Math/Science Workshops, our network of over 200 certified educators provide high-quality instruction across a range of topics, including digital storytelling, speech and debate, video game design, and sports and fitness. We invite you toex plore our course offerings and we hope to see you this summer! -Dr. Lauren Godfrey, UCI Writing Project Director Young Writers: Grades K - 10 9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Our children are potential authors with important stories to tell. This class introduces students to writing and fosters a love of reading through experimental, hands-on, and fun-filled activities. Our workshop offers a unique opportunity for students to develop their talent as writers. Experienced teachers guide students through a step-by- step approach to writing: prewriting, precomposing, writing, sharing, revising, editing, and evaluating. Young Math/Science: Grades K - 8 12:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. The Young Math/Science Workshops offer students the opportunity to further develop higher level thinking skills by doing hands-on activities that integrate math and science. To promote critical thinking, students are encouraged to use a variety of problem solving strategies. These include: reasoning with logic utilizing charts and diagrams identifying patterns After School Programs: Grades K-6 2:45 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. After school classes are available only at the Irvine - Tarbut V’Torah location. Digital Devices Courses:Courses with asterisks employ frequent use of digital devices & internet tools. Although limited quantities of digital devices will be availalbe to rent from the UCI Writing Project, students are encouraged to bring their own laptops.
