UCEAP Academic Integration Grants Program February 2019 Call for Proposals

In support of systemwide and campus initiatives to promote internationalization of UC campuses, the University of California Education Abroad Program (UCEAP) invites grant proposals from UC academic departments to remove academic barriers and integrate study abroad into their curricula.

The goal of UCEAP Academic Integration is to make study abroad an integral and accessible part of every undergraduate’s academic experience and to prepare students for entering an increasingly global workplace upon graduation. It aims to demonstrate the feasibility of participation in study abroad for students in all majors. We welcome applications from all academic disciplines.

Preference will be given to proposals that have a high impact on UC undergraduate students and focus on creating academic access routes to UCEAP study abroad programs. Examples of these access routes include:

• Incorporating study abroad into major degree plans • Reducing unit caps for the amount of study abroad courses a department will grant credit • Cataloging previously approved UCEAP courses • Creating UCEAP course approvals/pre-approvals for major, breadth, and other degree requirements • Publicizing study abroad through department websites and print materials, informational events, and/or

videos • Hiring a departmental study abroad peer advisor • Incorporating study abroad into student orientation

UCEAP offers its support in gathering course information (when available) for review from its partners abroad and headquarters in Santa Barbara, CA. Additionally, historical course credit data for certain UC campuses are available at this time: UCB Breadth, UCD Majors, UCD GE & Electives, UCI, UCLA, UCM, UCR, UCSD, UCSB, and UCSC. We encourage the use of these databases for publishing previously approved courses as well as for establishing pre-approvals of UCEAP coursework for degree requirements. For more information please see eap.ucop.edu/credit.

Requirements for the grants are the following:

1. Development or update of study abroad information on department/unit website 2. Creation of academic access routes to study abroad with delivery of two and four-year degree plans

incorporating study abroad 3. Pre-approval of courses to fulfill major, breadth, or other degree requirements 4. Collaboration of one staff and one faculty member within the academic department to serve as Co-

Principal Investigators 5. Provision of a brief mid-term report and a final summary report

In addition to these requirements, we welcome any other ideas for reducing academic barriers to study abroad or integrating study abroad into your department’s academic curriculum.

These grants are intended to fund efforts to better integrate current UCEAP programs. Grant applications proposing the creation of new study abroad programs will not be considered.
