Overview
This unit will provide learners an opportunity to demonstrate their ability to fulfil a significant production role. It is important that the production skills include the management of some of the production team.
Learning outcomes

Assessment requirements
Learners must produce a portfolio of evidence which includes: 1. Service portfolio 2. Summative practical assessment
1. Service portfolio
Learners must produce a service portfolio which contains assessed evidence covering all the theory assessment criteria in the unit. The service portfolio must also contain evidence relating to the practical assessment criteria. At a minimum the practical evidence contained in the portfolio must cover all of the following:
Participated in the planning and production of each of the production types - Fashion show
- Theatrical, musical or dance production
- Film Evidence from the one summative practical assessment must also be presented in the service portfolio. The service portfolio must be completed prior to learners undertaking the one summative practical assessment.
2. Summative practical assessment
Learners must carry out a complete showcase event which will be observed and marked by centre assessors. Learners must achieve all assessment criteria in order to pass and achieve the unit. The practical assessment must take place in a real or realistic working environment. At a minimum the summative practical assessment for this unit must cover:
Participation in the planning and production of one of the following events: a fashion show, a theatrical, musical or dance production or a film.
Recorded professional discussion can also be used as an assessment method attached to the practical assessment and is particularly useful for gathering evidence for criteria related to evaluation and reflection. Professional discussions should be planned and recorded.

Explain the practical requirements and restrictions of any venue:
Risk assessment, size, ICT equipment support, location, access, parking, building conforms to regulations, facilities, amenities, acoustics, equipment, seating, room layout, disabled access
Contract requirements, local bye-laws and legislation which could restrict the promotional activity in any venue used

Use the methods agreed in the showcase event plan to gain feedback from the relevant sources:
Collate and record the information gained from the feedback using a clear and concise format and method of presentation
Make recommendations for improvements to any future showcase events based upon the outcomes of the evaluation:
Analyse and evaluate the experience, identifying the strengths and limitations of the showcase event
Draw accurate and clear conclusions on the effectiveness of the promotional activity in meeting the agreed objectives
Participate in discussions giving a clear and well-structured summary of the results of the evaluation

Adapt and tailor approach for different clients, e.g. new and existing clients, male and female clients
Allow sufficient time for the consultation and communicate clearly and concisely to explain the concept of the treatment/service, encouraging clients to ask questions; offer reassurance

All used products will be disposed of in accordance with the salon rules and legislative guidelines
Ensure all electrical equipment switches are turned off when not in use

Assessment guidance
Assessors must use the amplified assessment guidance in this section to judge whether assessment criteria have been achieved.
P4 Complete agreed production planning tasks for a specified production role
Learners must produce an agreed plan for the activities to include the type of showcase event e.g. fashion show, theatrical, musical or dance production or film; the objectives of the activity, allocation of roles and responsibilities of others involved, the resource requirements, ensure enough products and equipment are available, preparation and implementation activities, realistic timescales, allocate the budget, methods of evaluation, e.g. client surveys, questionnaires.
P5 Produce production documentation and materials in the production process
Learners must produce a range of production documentation and materials to meet the requirements of the production. Examples of paperwork, documents and materials that may be included are tickets, programmes, call sheets, scripts, written accurate treatment records, continuity – sequential order, charts, sketches, photographs, adaptations, modifications, recommendations, requirements, design plans, use of multimedia. The learner must use a minimum of 6 different examples.
P6 Use production documentation and materials in the production process
The learner must use different forms of paperwork, documents during the planning of a showcase event.
P7 Fulfil management responsibilities for a specified production role with some guidance and support
The learner should start the showcase event on time. The learner must adapt the showcase event, when necessary, in response to changed circumstances and/or any issues that may arise. The learner must use the resources effectively throughout the showcase event according to the agreed plan. The learner must use suitable methods of communication to ensure that the specific roles allocated are carried out effectively.
P8 Co-ordinate the clearing away of props, products and equipment at the end of the showcase event
The learner must assist in the clear-up process of the venue to ensure that the area used is left clean and tidy and ready for use for the next event planner. Props must be stored safely and in line with any legislation or rules and regulations of the venue.
P9 Use methods agreed in the showcase event plan to gain feedback from the relevant sources
The learner must collate and record the information gained from the feedback from the client, using a clear and concise format and method of presentation.

P10 Make recommendations for improvements to any future showcase events based upon the outcomes of the evaluation
The learner must participate in discussions giving a clear and well structured summary of the results of the evaluation. The learner must analyse and evaluate the promotional activity and identify the strengths and limitations. The learner must draw accurate and clear conclusions on the effectiveness of the promotional activity in meeting the agreed objectives and record the evidence correctly.
