Triangle RST is similar to Triangle XYZ  with  RS= 3 inches and XY = 2 inches.  If the area of Triangle RST is  27 square inches, determine and state the area of Triangle XYZ, in square inches.

DO NOW!

Writing linear equations using slope intercept & pointslope form of a line.

Determine the equation of the line for each examples below using slope intercept form.

a) m = 3   y intercept = ‐6

SlopeIntercept Form     y = mx+b

b) m = 5 and passes through the point A (4,‐1)

c) That passes through the points A (4,‐2) and B (1,4).

Writing Linear Equation

PointSlope Form

PointSlope Form

m is slope(x1, y1) substitute given point here

Now let's try PointSlope Form! This is actually just a simple transformation of the slope formula

to

Examples:  Determine the equation of the line.

a) m = 5 A (4,‐1) b) m = ‐2 A (‐8,‐5)

c) A(3,5) & B(2, 1)

Slopes and Equations involving Parallel & Perpendicular Lines

• Parallel lines have the same slopes or the product of theirs slopes is +1.

• Perpendicular lines have slopes that are negative reciprocals of one another or the product of their slopes is 1

Use Slope Intercept Form or Point Slope Form to write an equation for each!

Write an equation of a line that is parallel to the line 3x+y = 9 and passes through the point (2, 7).

You only have to write you answer in slope intercept form if it says to!

Write the equation for a line that passes through (‐6, 8) and is perpendicular to a line that passes through (3, ‐2) & (5, ‐6).

State you answer in slopeintercept form.

We can start with pointslope, then change to slopeintercept!

Use slopeintercept from the beginning

or

What is the Equation of the Perpendicular Bisector to AB where A(‐1, 5) and B(3, 11)

Should we graph this one to help us?
