Friday, January 22 Shabbat Services
The Hebrew Naming Project During Friday night Zoom services on January 22, 2021, we will continue with our JCV Hebrew Naming Project. The importance of Hebrew names is emphasized in the Torah reading for that Shabbat, Parshat Bo. Bo tells the story of actual exodus from Egypt. The ancient Rabbis state that one of the reasons for the exodus was that our ancient ancestors, the Israelites, never forgot their Hebrew names and thus kept their identity intact during the many years of enslavement. Hebrew names, in Jewish tradition, lead to redemption and we could all use a little redemption in our lives. Our zoom service platform makes naming easy. Just sign in with your Hebrew name (using the "rename" option in zoom) or if you don't know how to use the "rename" option, when we come to the "sermon" portion of the service, you just tell us your Hebrew name and we can "rename" you, using the zoom editing function available to us as "hosts." If you don't have a Hebrew name (never had one or it's a Yiddish name) then we can help. Just contact the cantor or rabbi and let them know you are interested in acquiring a Hebrew name and we can help you with the process so you can fully participate in another Naming Project Shabbat in the future. We are so pleased that a number of congregants have either adopted or re-embraced their Hebrew names and are going to be "officially" announcing their Hebrew name to the community with a special prayer during services that evening. There is still time for you to have your Hebrew name officially announced to the community. Just let the rabbi or cantor know. Any questions? Please feel free to contact our clergy: Rabbi Shull- [email protected] Cantor Marci- [email protected]
