It can be traced back as ‘Haleghan’ to 816 AD when it was granted to Bishop Mildrid by King Offa and it is listed in the Domesday Book. Until the Reformation Hallow provided recreation and food for the Priory Church of Worcester. Its mediaeval church at the end of Church Lane, where the walk begins and ends, was replaced in 1869 by the church on the main road but the old churchyard is retained as a public space to relax before or after your walk. PThis is an easy access circular walk of around a mile which looks at the farming heritage of our historic rural Worcestershire village of Hallow.

Along the way, you will see Park Farm at the 18th century heart of the village. It was the farm for Hallow Manor and was rebuilt on the site of a mediaeval monastic grange. Until the late 20th century the farm grew hops and three hop kilns can still be seen.

The walk takes you around the perimeter of ‘Pinchfield,’ once one of the three open fields around the centre of the village that was farmed in strips allotted to villagers. Footpaths around and across the field reflect its historic past. Ancient oak trees mark the north and south extremities of the field.

The walk returns along the Village Green opposite the old forge and the Crown Inn, two of the oldest buildings in the village and

passes Post Cottage, once a bakery and Post Office and Barley Mow cottages, once the site of a malthouse. The corner of the Green was the site of an animal pound, used by drovers on their way to Worcester.
