What Is Maintenance Evaluation?

It is an assessment of current maintenance arrangements in an

organization and subsequently describes what is required to make

improvements towards a Maintenance Best Practice situation. It is a

mixture of interviews, interviews, observations, information assessment

and expert opinion.

Evaluation through reports• The evaluation is done on the basis of reports which are prepared at fixed

time intervals (monthly or yearly) giving details of the equipment

serviced/maintained during period.

• The real evaluation of the process depends upon the accuracy of the

reports.

• The reports should give the complete picture of the maintenance function

so that the corrective measures can be taken.

Work Auditing• In this method total time for which the equipment is not available for

production work and total time taken by maintenance staff to attend the

fault is analyzed .

• The step by step progress of randomly selected job is recorded to highlight

the delays caused.

• The delay may be because of poor planning of repair work or non availability

of spare parts .

• It enable the maintenance foreman to understand the weak points . The

areas where improvements are possible can be identified and corrective

actions initiated accordingly.

Subjective Evaluation

• It is a qualitative type of evaluation.

• Evaluation is not expressed in numerical values but expressed in

qualitative estimates like good , fair , adequate etc.

•Evaluation will depend upon the available expertise on the subject,

qualifications of the working people and their training.
