The Essential Jesus as

Revealed in the Gospel of Mark

The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ,His only Son, our Lord:

Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell.

The Apostles’ Creed

The third day He arose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from there he shall come to judge the living and the dead.

The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in the Holy Spirit;the one holy church;the communion of saints;the forgiveness of sins;the resurrection of the body;and the life everlasting.

Amen.

good news is being eclipsed by the

GOOD of his ability to heal.”

Mark 1:45But he went out and began to talk freely about it, and to spread the news, so that Jesus could no longer openly enter a town, but was out in desolate places, and people were coming to him from every quarter.

Snapshot #1 – Christ’s Deity

Mark 2:3-4And they came, bringing to him a paralytic carried by four men. And when they could not get near him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him, and when they had made an opening, they let down the bed on which the paralytic lay.

Snapshot #1 – Christ’s Deity

Mark 2:8-9And immediately Jesus, perceiving in his spirit that they thus questioned within themselves, said to them, “Why do you question these things in your hearts? Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Rise, take up your bed and walk’?”

Mark 2:10-12But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—he said to the paralytic— “I say to you, rise, pick up your bed, and go home.” And he rose and immediately picked up his bed and went out before them all, so that they were all amazed and glorified God, saying, “We never saw anything like this!”

Mark stressing the deity of Jesus

1. This Jesus whom we love, worship, serve and lean upon is deeply human

AND powerfully divine. Therefore he is able to move mightily in our life situations AND he is in no way a

stranger to our pain.

Today’s Takeaways

2. Sin is an issue that MUST be dealt with. Only as we come to Christ on HIS terms will we find the forgiveness that

only HE can offer!

Today’s Takeaways

In the Bible, leprosy is a picture of sin!

- It progresses slowly (and often unnoticed when first present)

- It destroys as it grows- It brings isolation and ultimately ruin

and death

Today’s Takeaways

In the second snapshot, Jesus forgives a paralyzed man of his sin, and proves his authority to do so by healing him!

So both of these incidents were about dealing with sin!

Today’s Takeaways

Responding to the GOSPEL . . .

Admit our sin … need for Christ!Believe that he died to pay penalty for

our sin and rebellion against God!Come to Christ, turning from sin (repent)

and embracing the gospel (believe)!
