Task 7
By Luke Caplowe
Two detailed analysis of a
promotional package from your
groups chosen Genre.
• ‘Inception’- Teaser poster.
• Not much is added in this teaser poster it adds no information about the
characters or the storyline. The date of the release of the film is not specified it
just says the ‘SUMMER 2010’
• The names of the actors that will be playing roles is placed at the top of the
teaser poster, however no information on who's playing who, nor how they will
be dressed on look.
• There is a small slogan that doesn't show much about the film, ‘your mind is
the scene of the crime’ shows that there will be something in the movie that
will play with your mind.
• The use of the just the title in the middle of the poster is attracting and
mysterious, absolutely nothing is shared about the plot of the film
• ‘Inception’- Main poster.
• This main poster is much more intriguing then the teaser poster it showcases
what the characters will look like in the film, including what they will be
wearing and also showcasing some location which part of the film will take
place in.
• The use of guns intrigues audiences as it shows there is going to be action and
confrontation which certain audiences want to see. Also the way the road curls
up behind them lets the audience understand the name of the title and the true
meaning of it, inception means it going to be a film that plays with the mind
that attracts an audience that want to see a film that is not in the ordinary.
• The main poster always has more information that the teaser poster, for
example this poster says the date of the release of the film and where you can
watch it and watch you can watch it in: IMAX.
• The director of ‘The Dark Night’ This intrigues the audience as people know
that ‘The Dark Night’ is an amazing film and is considered to be one of the best
films ever directed. Suggesting that this film has to be good as well.
• ‘Inception’- Magazine cover.
• The magazine cover always try's to attract a particular audience that prefer to
read over watching. However magazines are always manipulating and twisting
things so that anyone can understand it and interpret it attracting a big
audience.
• ‘INSIDE THE ULTIMATE HEAD TRIP’. This is a very bold statement to the film
saying that is the best movie that plays with your head, following the
conventions of thriller films it thrills the mind and takes it on an unimaginable
journey attracting the films target audience.
• Having the main protagonist on the front cover behind the title of the film
instantly jumps out at people scanning the magazine section especially with a
actor like Leonardo DiCaprio.
• ‘Mind-Blowing’ again in read attracting the audience and intriguing them to
read the magazine.
• The films protagonist is surrounded by loads of fonts in the ear pieces which
always brings the viewers eyes back to the film inception.
• ‘Kill Bill’- Teaser poster.
• The ‘Kill Bill’ teaser poster doesn't say much about the film like the teaser of
inception.
• The poster shows nothing about the appearance of the main protagonist, we
only know that the film will contain some violence and weaponry. Also the use
of the font being sliced shows that bill is going to be sliced and the film is going
to be quite violent and dramatic.
• It appears to be a woman holding a sword which would suggest that it is going
to be a revenge story that this woman is going to kill bill. But why? Who is bill
and what has he done to deserve to be killed, or try to be killed?
• We only know from this poster that this is the forth film that Quentin Tarantino
has made. This will interest the audience as he is a known director that has
made popular abstract films in the past.
• The use of the red fading into yellow and the Japanese writing shows that the
music is going to be exotic and with an American twist, which entices the
audience as they will want to see how the film will turn out.
• ‘Kill Bill’- Main poster.
• This Main poster is much more informative than the teaser poster as it contains
more visual information about the audience can expect in the film.
• The slogan at the top of the poster gives the audience information, that the
film will include thrills and follow some conventions of the thriller genre. It also
suggest that she is going to go on a journey to go for the kill so the audience
what to follow her on her journey.
• Yellow is the color of sunshine. It's associated with joy, happiness, intellect,
and energy. Yellow produces a warming effect, arouses cheerfulness,
stimulates mental activity, and generates muscle energy. This is a contrast with
the thriller genre as they don’t mostly end in a happy ending again attracting
the audience.
• The character is standing in all yellow with a long samurai sword that gives the
impression that she is going to use it in this film along side the slogan it shows
that the film is going to obtain some slicing and blood.
• The poster also includes credits about who help distribute and helped in the
production of the film.
• ‘Kill Bill’- Magazine cover
The way that she is in front of the title and everything is based behind her shows that she is the centre of attention and she is the most important thing in the magazine.
Also the way that the title ‘Kill Bill’ is the same size as the magazines title ‘Empire’ shows that the film has an importance and strikes people as they look at the magazine making it the second thing they look at after the picture.
The blood splatted around the page also shows that combined with the female stance and structure this film is appealing to both genders as the main protagonist will be a woman in a action thriller film, so woman will be routing for her and mean will enjoy the violence.
‘It’s BLOODY genius! And we’ve got the full GORY story’ this little slogan attracts the audience and leave them wanting to find out why its so genius, and they way that BLOODY and GORY are in red shows tat the film is going to contain some mature content.
Throughout this task I have learnt about the media and how different medias can advertise films in different ways and grab different types of audiences. Two detailed analysis of a promotional packages from our groups chosen genre. I think I have analysed well the promotional aspect to these movies and why certain aspects of media help to attract different audiences in different ways. Having a depth of knowledge on the promotional packaging of different films form the genre we have chosen to create, will help me understand how to create a trailer and poster of our own and how we can attract certain audiences.
