Desirable Behavior Targeted: Students should slowly shut their locker door, following it with their hand until the lock “clicks” instead of using a quick, thrusting motion with their hands causing a loud SLAM! Types of Positive Reinforcements Immediate R+ Every time a different student closes their locker door quietly, they will be rewarded with a tally mark. This will be recorded on a chart containing everyone’s name that the teacher will have accessible at all times on a clipboard. Delayed R+ If there are twenty tally marks at the end of the day, then the class receives a material used to make the tornado, such as the plastic bottle. A photo of the material item will be placed in its respective blank on the bulletin board after the students have packed up and are lined up by the door for dismissal at the end of the day. Overall R+ After all of the materials are collected (represented on the bulletin board), the students will be allowed to make their own tornado as a class. This lesson will be executed the very next day during the science lesson time. Interactive Learning Activity Students will be rewarded with photos of the materials required to build a tornado: water bottle, water, soap, vinegar, glitter, miniature houses, and miniature cows. Once they have received all of the materials on the bulletin board, we will do the activity the very next day during the science lesson. They will fill the water bottle with water, soap, and vinegar. They will then add the glitter, miniature houses, and cows to the water to represent possible debris picked up by the tornado. Next, they will seal the bottle with the lid and shake it in a circular motion to create the tornado. This lesson relates to their 2nd grade science unit on weather. HOW to Teach the Desired Behaviors: The desired behavior, closing the locker door quietly, will be modeled by the teacher and then further reinforced by having each of the students model the behavior. Having each student model, allows them to feel what closing a locker quietly is like as well as hear the clicking sound it should make when being shut. If the issue becomes increased we will model it again for reinforcement. HOW to Teach the Plan: The plan will be taught first during the morning meeting, this is a time with the students review the previous day’s material and discuss what we will be doing that day. The teacher will model the expected behavior, and then students will practice. After a student shuts the door properly, they will be shown how the teacher will record a tally mark by their name. They will then be shown that at the end of the day, a material will be added to the board if twenty tally marks have been recorded. Next, they will be shown a model of the tornado they will get to make once all materials are earned. Options This plan could easily be modified for other behaviors by increasing or decreasing the required number of tallies respective to the new behavior being targeted. For example, a lack of turning in homework may require all students to gain a tally mark for turning in homework each day in order to receive the delayed reinforcement.

Every time a different student closes their locker door quietly, they will be rewarded with a tally mark.
