Five Fat Peas
Five Fat Peas in a pea pod
(Children hold hand in a fist)
One grew, two grew, so did all the rest.
(Put thumb and finger up one by one)
They grew and grew
(raise hand in the air very slowly)
And did not stop, until one day
The Pod went POP
(Children clap hands together)
Our Newest PAT Graduate!
The Sun
In the morning the sun is low
At noon he’s high overhead
In the evening he drops again
Before he goes to bed.
(This is a good stretching exercise. Have your child bend
low to the left, stretch arms up high and stand on tiptoes,
then bend low to the right.
Fun Outside with Our Infants!
*Listen to the wonderful sounds out-
side; point to the birds singing, wind
rustling through the trees, and cars driving.
*Talk about the weather with your baby: is it
bright? Cloudy? Hot? Muggy? Describe your
child’s world for them.
*Let your baby feel all the different textures in the
outdoors. The grass, leaves, rocks, and flowers all
feel much different than the toys and textures they
are use to.
*Take a walk outside in the early morning or eve-
ning when it’s not so hot. Walking can help moms
and dads relax while enjoying time with their baby.
Fun Outside with Our Toddlers!
*Play messy stuff: finger paints, shaving crème,
glitter, glue and play dough.
*Eat messy foods: watermelon, ice cream, and popsicles.
No spills on the carpet to clean up!
*Use squirt bottles or water guns for a refreshing splash of
water and great practice using fine motor skills.
*Have a picnic, eat lunch or a snack at the park or just in the
backyard.
*Pile up rocks, leaves or other outside materials. Talk about
their shape, how they feel, and their colors.
*Draw with sidewalk chalk. Any practice coloring helps
develop better skill for writing in the years to come.
Protect Children’s Eyes From Harmful Rays!
Children’s eyes are more susceptible to UV exposure because the lenses in their eyes are
clearer.
When children are outside, follow these steps:*Keep children younger than six months out of direct sunlight. *The
sun’s rays are strongest between 10am and 4pm. *Many manufacturers make fun frames for children. Get them in
the habit early of wearing shades when they’re outside. *Make sure your child wears a wide brimmed hat or a base-
ball cap, which provides some UV protection. *Remind children to wear their sunglasses even on cloudy days.

Grade School Library-to purchase books for our school.
Mrs. Bartlett and the Grade School Library was se-
lected because of a very nice article written by Mrs. Cyn-
dee Clevland that nominated our school for this award.
Mrs. Susan Peters came to Bennington Grade School
and read a story to the school on Monday, May 17th. Thank you to EMC Insurance for sponsor-
ing this program for schools. Also, The Bennington State Bank donated $100 to the Bennington
