Twilight Fair

WELCOME BACK!

It has been great to see everyone return to school safely and the weather warming up! Don’t forget this is Hat Term — so NO HAT, NO PLAY!

OCTOBER IS WALK TO SCHOOL MONTH!

October is Walk to School Month and we encourage everyone to enjoy the lovely weather and join in by walking to school when you can. There will be some special and fun activities organised by the Junior School Council this month. This will include a Nude Food Day — keep an eye out for further details.

SWIMMING

The Junior and Senior Swimming Programs are running during this term. Notices went out last term and final payments are due shortly. Please don’t forget to name all swimming gear and uniforms in preparation. Remember to name those undies too!

TWILIGHT FAIR – FRIDAY 20 NOVEMBER

The Twilight Fair is just around the corner. There is a whole page with more information about the Fair in this newsletter, so please have a look. In addition, your Parent Class Representative will also be looking for your support and assistance to organise your child’s class stall in Kid’s Alley.

Walk to School this October and kick-start your child’s active habits for life

Whitehorse Primary School is taking part in VicHealth’s Walk To School Month. Walk to School month encourages

primary school children to walk, ride or scoot to and from school throughout October, to help them get the 60

minutes of physical activity they need each day.

Your child’s teacher will record how many times they walk to and from school during October, using a classroom

calendar. Schools with the highest participation levels in each region will be eligible for some great prizes – so each

time your child walks, they’ll also be increasing their school’s chances! There is also the chance to win prizes

through Whitehorse Primary School.

There are lots of ways for children and families to enjoy walking as part of their routine, and we encourage you to

find an option that suits your family. You might like to:

walk with your child to and from school and enjoy the chance to talk, help your child learn road safety skills,

and get to know the local neighbourhood together

arrange for your child to walk with other families or friends, giving them time to socialise and share their

journey

drive part of the way to school and walk the rest, particularly if you live a long way from school, or have lim-

ited time

mix it up – if your child enjoys riding their bike or scooter, that’s great too!

Try and walk to school as many days as possible this month to be in the running for some great prizes. Stay

tuned for more details of fun events to celebrate Walk to School month including Nude Food Day and Breakfast

at School.

School Banking update Commonwealth Bank School Banking Update – Please Read Following the decision last month to recall the Cosmic Light Beam Torch due to a potential safety issue, a decision has been made to also withdraw the upcom-ing Lunar Light Band reward from the School Banking Rewards Program. To avoid disappointment there is a new reward item available for redemption in Term 4 while stocks last. Students can now test their skills with

a game of frisbee with the new Galaxy Glider! Once stu-dents have collected 10 tokens, they can simply include a note, along with their 10 tokens in their deposit wallet on banking day to advise that they would like to redeem their tokens for the Galaxy Glider reward item. Don’t forget the Outer Space Savers Money Box is also available in Term 4.

中秋节 (zhōng qiū jié)

Mid-Autumn Festival

At the end of last term, our students celebrated the "Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival- 中秋节- zhōng qiū jié-

(Also called Moon Festival) which takes place during September as part of our LOTE intercultural program.

The Junior school children (Foundation grade to grade two) learnt about the story of Chang E (嫦娥-Cháng

é-The Moon Lady) and participated in a lantern making activity.

The senior school children (Grade three to grade six) were involved in the Chinese traditional "Lantern's

Riddles Game-猜灯谜- cāi dēng mí" competition. All students in these grades were invited to solve the

riddles which were attached to the lanterns, and the students who got the right answer would win a lan-tern to keep or receive a small prize.

Now, I am very pleased to announce that the following children have won one of the lanterns/prizes for this activity:

For grade 3/4: First Prize goes to - Anthony

Second prize goes to – Sophie, Emily, Cynthia, Julia

For grade 5/6: First Prize goes to – Peter, Jake, Deanna, Madeline and Brett

Second prize goes to- Karina, Danesh, Jordon, Zahlia and Eidan.

Congratulations to the above students! And well done to those who participated in the activities!

Our popular hand-makers and artisans market is filling quickly. If you know of friends or family who

might like to be a stallholder, please get in touch with the Office. The cost per stall is $45 plus a

donation to our raffle. Applications close at the end of this month.

Raffle Coordinator wanted!

A huge range of amazing prizes has been secured for the Twilight Fair raffle and auction

The Fair Committee is now looking for an enthusiastic person to coordinate the remainder of the raffle.

The role involves:

Producing raffle ticket books

Pre-selling tickets prior to the Fair

Overseeing the Raffle Stall at the Fair

Managing the prize draw and announcements

Distributing prizes

The Fair Committee will also help secure volunteers to assist the Coordinator.
