ST. PETER PARISH MISSION STATEMENT

We, the believers of St. Peter Parish, having our beginnings as the earliest Catholic Church of the Archdiocese of New Orleans on the Northshore, in response to God's call, come together:

to love God and one another to worship as a faith community to be God's hands, heart and mind and to provide for our community's spiritual and

physical needs

In doing this, we glorify God and help realize His reign on earth. While rejoicing in the experience of our pilgrimage, we must ever keep in mind our ultimate destination through our faithful stewardship of time, talent and treasure. Called to be a prayerful and hospitable Catholic family of living faith, we welcome and invite all people to share in our unique gifts of the Holy Spirit.

St. Peter Parish Mission Sunday—Wednesday October 11 - 14

Countdown to our parish mission – TWO WEEKS!

If you haven’t marked your calendars yet, please do so. You may ask “why attend?” Like all things in life that we care about, be it sports, business, relationships, etc., we avail ourselves of classes, reading materials, further study and questioning. Our faith and spiritual journey is no different. We need

inspiration, information and encouragement. Our Parish Mission is one way to revive your spirit, renew your conviction, and gain insight from people who spend their lives living for and sharing their deep love of the Lord.

Fr. Wade Menezes, CPM, Fathers of Mercy

Will share his wisdom, insight and years of experience with us by expanding on the theme:

“ Work Out Your Salvation” Philippians 2:12

Reconciliation Nightly: 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. before the Mission

Sun., October 11 7 p.m. – 8 p.m. Presentation: “Be Faithful to Daily Duty” Mon., October 12 7 p.m. – 8 p.m. Presentation: “Be Other-Centered!” Tues., October 13 7 p.m. – 8 p.m. Presentation: “Understand the Reality of Vice and Virtue” Wed., October 14 7 p.m. – 8 p.m. Presentation: “Practice and Live the Sacraments” Concluding Mass Reception following Mass in St. Mary’s Hall

The Vocation Committee of St. Peter Parish is inviting all women of the parish to commit to offer the graces of their Eucharist on every first Sunday of each month. All women are invited to embrace a life of spiritual motherhood by praying for an increase in religious vocations and by making a commitment to intercede both prayerfully and through mortifications for the holiness of existing vocations. Next Sunday, October 4th, is the first Sunday of the month. May all women of the parish prayerfully consider this offering of graces.

Gardening Ministry Be part of the St. Peter Parish GARDEN TEAM to help beautify our grounds. It is a great way to serve as a family. Interested: Please contact Chris Stellingworth at [email protected]

Thank you for your generosity in last week’s Collection for the Catholic Communication Cam-paign. Because of your support, millions of faithful will have the opportunity to deepen their faith through daily resources on the Internet, television, and radio, and in print media. Remember, half of your donations are staying in our archdiocese to support local communication needs. The First Friday and First Saturday Devotions to The Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary

The First Friday of each month was designated by our Savior Himself as a day to be consecrated to honoring His Sacred Heart. Attendance at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is assuredly the best means of honoring and loving the adorable Heart of Jesus.

First Saturday Devotion … All are invited to join the Northshore Manresa Men’s Group on October 3rd, for First Saturday Devotion with Confessions beginning 7:45 a.m., Rosary at 8:00 a.m. and Mass at 8:30 a.m. Our Blessed Mother asked at Fatima for the First Saturday Devotion, saying it is a way of atoning for sins in the world, and promising that she would help at the hour of death anyone who keeps the devotion for five consecutive First Saturdays.

The second collection next weekend, October 3rd/4th, is for our Maintenance and Building Fund. Money collected will be used to fund various repair projects in our parish.

All that is needed is a willingness to help and a desire to pray the Rosary for Our Lady. Those interested, please call the Parish Rectory at 985.892.2422.

Stewardship ....Our Way of Life at St. Peter Parish ONE GOD + ONE CHURCH + ONE FAMILY

A Stewardship Moment

Twenty-sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time: September 27th

St. James warns against accepting the standards of the world and assuming that what is normative in society needs no countercultural challenge. The temptation to hoard riches and make sharp bargains at the expense of the powerless is pervasive because these things are generally done and look respectable enough. St. James points to God’s judgment on these attitudes and actions of amassing wealth and comfort at the expense of others. How might we be better stewards of the material blessings we have been given? How might we use our wealth with compassion toward others?

SOCIETY OF SAINT VINCENT DE PAUL SAINT PETER CONFERENCE

Saint Vincent de Paul (24 April 1581 - 27 September 1660) was a priest of the Catholic Church who dedicated himself to serving the poor. He is venerated as a saint in the Catholic Church and the Anglican communion. He was canonized in 1737. He was renowned for his compassion,

humility, and generosity and is known as the "great apostle of charity." His feast day is September 27.

Antoine-Frederic' Ozanam (23 April 1813 -- 8 September 1853) was a French scholar. He founded with fellow students the conference of charity, later known as the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul. He was beatified by Pope John Paul II in the Cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris in 1997, hence he may be properly called Blessed Frederic by Catholics. His feast day is September 9.

The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul is an international Catholic voluntary organization dedicated to the sanctifica-tion of its members through serving the poor and disadvantaged. No work of charity is foreign to the society.

The society was founded in 1833. It is currently active in 140 countries. It has an estimated 800,000 members. There is a hierarchy:

International----national----regional----archdiocesan---district---conference Each level of this hierarchy follows two documents...the manual and the rule. They lay out how the society operates.

The original conference of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul at St. Peter Catholic Church was formed on Septem-ber 2, 1939. It was aggregated September 9, 1946. Aggregation is the process wherein a conference is formally rec-ognized by the International Society of Saint Vincent de Paul.

Saint Vincent de Paul at St. Peter's operated out of the Covington Food Bank for many years. However, since September 2010, it has operated out of St. Peter's. Our teams of two take turns responding to the calls of those in need and generally do home visits to see how we can assist them. It is through the generous donations of our parishioners using the poor box envelopes that our conference is funded.

On display is a duplicate certificate received of the aggregation of the conference at St. Peter's. We are proud to pre-sent this framed certificate as a gift to the parishioners of Saint Peter Catholic Church.

Quotes from Principal Michael Kraus’ weekly newsletter: September 16, 2015

St. Peter Families, Our governor designated September 14th as a day of prayer for the brave men and women in law en-forcement. On Monday, we were honored to have many of our families and friends in law enforcement join us for morning rosary and assembly. The response was tremendous, as we were quickly reminded how many of our school parents work to protect us each day. After our guests introduced themselves, we gave them a standing ovation. We hope that our prayers and cheers remind them how respected they

are among our school community. We are more than halfway through the first quarter of school. It has been very exciting to visit our classrooms these early weeks to see the many engaging lessons taking place. Whether your child is learning colors, Oswald’s odd animals, or how ancient civi-lizations hunted a wooly mammoth, we hope it has been a great start for your child. As always, let us know if we can do any-thing for you.

God alone,

Michael Kraus
