TWENTY-SEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME (YEAR B) 7th October, 2018 We support the endeavours of the Royal Commission to bring healing to the victims of abuse. Church's website: www.facingthetruth.org.au Reflection: Parts of todays Gospel is counter cultural to our 21 st century understanding of marriage, and therefore can be difficult for us to put into a 2018 context, which is our reality. Marriage is about a relationship, it is a union, togetherness, equality and hard work. It takes effort to make it work. Enough of the roadblock deliberately put in front of Jesus by the Pharisees, to try and trip him up against Mosaic Law and publically bring Jesus to Herods attention. I would prefer to focus on the joy this Gospel can bring to us by reminding us to be like children. Children see the world with wonder and awe. They look through a lens unpolluted, that with age, sometimes becomes a little cynical. Jesus is trying to lead us to the Kingdom of God with a pure and openness of heart. It is through this lens we allow the spirit to be received and understood. Looking and being childlike enables us to embody the true meaning of the Kingdom of God. We have witnessed this week the horror and destruction an earthquake and Tsunami can do. Let us pray for the 1400 (and rising number) of deceased people and the 2800 plus families, now suffering grief and without a home, food or safety. These people are our neighbours. Let us celebrate the good in people in our very own city of Melbourne. As a broader community we have embraced the twins from Bhutan - congenital twins joined together who will not survive as a united entity! We pray for a successful separation – a separation of unity - necessary for the survival of life in order for these babies to live. Julie Binstead - Holy Trinity –PLT Life, Marriage & Family Sunday 7th October, 2018 Booklets available at all churches this weekend. This booklet seeks to encourage mothers and fathers in their unique and complementary mission as parents. It addresses the reality of family life and raising children with Christs message of love that is easily accessible. It aims to encourage everyone—regardless of their circumstances—never to lose hope and, for the sake of our children, always seek to be better. As a follow up to this statement, you and colleagues from your parish are invited to a Housing and Homelessness Forum on 24 October. The forum will bring together parishioners and parish leaders with relevant Catholic service agencies to consider how parishes can contribute to resolving the housing crisis for people in our communities. The Plenary Council in 2020 is about the future

of the Church. To prepare, we all are invited to

reflect on the question: “What do you think

God is asking of us in Australia at this time?”

This week we begin to light a special candle

(made by our very own Sr Delia) and saying the

special prayer at each mass. We now need the

involvement we have spoken about ….

Over the next few weeks, we are looking for

people who would be interested in facilitating the

Listening and Dialogue Encounters in our

parish. The commitment of a facilitator is to

attend some training and then be willing to

organise and facilitate a small group, which gathers to pray, talk and listen to one

another about our experiences of faith and the Church. It’s a simple experience.

There is a guide to help you and over a number of weeks, your group can choose

the topics you wish to focus on. Once your group is happy with their response, the

facilitator will summarise and hand in their group’s response … All group responses

will then be collated and submitted through the official website. We anticipate this

entire process to take a maximum of six weeks.

Please consider signing up to be a Facilitator

THIS WEEK’S GOSPEL – Mark 10: 2-16

First Anniversary occurring at this time:

Some Pharisees approached Jesus and asked, ‘Is it against the law for a man to divorce his wife?’ They were testing him. He answered them, ‘What did Moses command you?’ ‘Moses allowed us’ they said ‘to draw up a writ of dismissal and so to divorce.’ Then Jesus said to them, ‘It was because you were so unteachable that he wrote this commandment for you. But from the beginning of creation God made them male and female. This is why a man must leave father and mother, and the two become one body. They are no longer two, therefore, but one body. So then, what God has united, man must not divide.’ Back in the house the disciples questioned him again about this, and he said to them, ‘The man who divorces his wife and marries another is guilty of adultery against her. And if a woman divorces her husband and marries another she is guilty of adultery too.’

People were bringing little children to him, for him to touch them. The disciples turned them away, but when Jesus saw this he was indignant and said to them, ‘Let the little children come to me; do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs. I tell you solemnly, anyone who does not welcome the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.’ Then he put his arms round them, laid his hands on them and gave them his blessing.
