All announcements at the sale made from the auction block will take precedence over statements made in the sale book. We reserve the right to with-draw any sale lot not meeting our sale specifications at sale time.

LIABILITY all persons attending the sale do so at their own risk. Teixeira Cattle Co., nor its staff, accept any liability.

BULL HEALTH GUARANTEE all bulls selling are test-negative for BVD type 1 and 2. It is estimated that 1-5% of the bulls being sold across the country are Persistent Infected (PI) for BVD carriers; at Teixei-ra Cattle Co. this percentage is ZERO. PI BVD cattle will cause first trimester abortion and create respira-tory challenges in stressed calves. PI infected cattle are often difficult to pinpoint and have significant dollar impact. Consistent with our commitment to biosecurity and herd health, all bulls are sold Trich free.

HERD HEALTH all cattle will be accompanied with proper health certificates for immediate shipment to most locations in the United States. If cattle are selling to areas requiring testing, tests will be com-pleted before shipment can be made. Only virgin bulls sell. Any trich test requested for out-of-state shipment will be paid by the seller.

INSURANCE mortality insurance on your purchase can be obtained from James F. Bessler, Inc. at time of settlement.

ABSENTEE BUYER SUPPORT (ABS) if you are unable to attend Sale By The Sea, our staff will purchase bulls meeting your personal specifications and will guarantee to do this within your budgeted price. Buyers in the ABS program must be fully satis-fied with their bulls upon delivery.

REPEAT BUYERS (BULLS ONLY) if you purchased a bull in our 2018 Sale By The Sea sale or our 2019 Perfor-mance Plus bull sale, you’ll receive a 5% discount on all your purchases in the 2019 Sale By The Sea - our way of saying thanks to past buyers.

DELIVERY free delivery within California and Oregon as well as central points in Washington, Idaho, and Nevada. Due to weather, a central meeting place may be needed. Delivery will be arranged for all other loca-tions as cost effectively as possible. A $50 discount will be given for each lot loaded and removed from sale site, on sale day!

SEMEN TEST all bulls have been semen tested prior to the sale. All bulls are guaranteed to be breeders.

BREEDING GUARANTEE bulls are guaranteed to be sound breeders for the first breeding season, which is defined as 70 days after turnout. This guarantee does not cover death loss.

INDENTIFICATION OF CATTLE ear tags on all sale cattle will correspond to lot numbers in the sale book.

More than 25 years ago, John came to his father, Allan, with a dream of owning and raising show cattle. That dream quickly became a reality. John began working alongside his father as they built Teixeira Show Steers, which quickly grew into Teixeira Cattle Company, as their passion for the cattle industry grew. In 1999, the Teixeira Family, purchased Thousand Hills Ranch, and the ranch became home to TCC’s herd. Teixeira Cattle Co. continued to expand and in the years following it became necessary to expand even more, so the family’s ranch in Terrebonne, Oregon was purchased.

Our family has been rooted in the agriculture industry for more than six genera-tions, so for us, this is more than our livelihood. This is a tradition. This is a legacy we proudly honor. We recognize Teixeira Cattle Company would not exist without God and family.

Throughout the years, Teixeira Cattle Co. has grown and shifted with the indus-try’s demands; and our family remains committed to improving our program. As we grow our operations, we have decided to focus on offering an elite group of bulls as well as replacement heifers for FFA and 4-H exhibitors. Steers for FFA and 4-H exhibitors will be available private treaty.

Over the last few years, John and Heather have been discerning the need for new growth in Teixeira Cattle Co.’s program, so they decided to move their family to the ranch in Oregon. They are excited for the new opportunities this will bring not only Teixeira Cattle Co., but their family as well. Nathan, Joseph, and Ben can’t wait to go skiing and snowboarding more now that they live just down the road from the slopes. This past summer, the boys worked hard with their fair animals and were very successful. Nathan, 17, is a senior in high school, and has plans to join the military after graduation. Joseph, 14, is John’s shadow. He dreams of the day when he can take over Teixeira Cattle Co. And Ben, 11, is our fun loving kid. He never meets a stranger, and is always willing to pitch in. As a family, we are excited for this new chapter of life in Oregon!

CALVING EASE DIRECT (CED) is expressed as a difference in percentage of unassisted births, with a higher value indicating greater calving ease in first-calf heifers. It predicts the average difference in ease with which a sire's calves will be born when he is bred to first-calf heifers.

BIRTH WEIGHT (BW) expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire's ability to transmit birth weight to his progeny compared to that of other sires.

RESIDUAL AVERAGE DAILY GAIN (RADG) expressed in pounds per day, is a predictor of a sire’s genetic ability for postweaning gain in future progeny compared to that of other sires, given a constant amount of feed consumed.

DRY MATTER INTAKE (DMI) expressed in pounds per day, is a predictor of difference transmitting ability for feed intake during the postweaning phase, compared to that of other sires.

SCROTAL CIRCUMFERENCE EPD (SC) expressed in centime-ters, is a predictor of the difference in transmitting ability for scrotal size compared to that of other sires.

DOCILITY (DOC) is expressed as a difference in yearling cattle temperament, with a higher value indicating more favorable docility. It predicts the average difference of progeny from a sire in comparison with another sire’s calves. In herds where temperament problems are not an issue, this expected differ-ence would not be realized.

M AT E R N A L

HEIFER PREGNANCY (HP) is a selection tool to increase the probability or chance of a sire's daughters becoming pregnant as first-calf heifers during a normal breeding season. A higher EPD is the more favorable direction and the EPD is reported in percentage units.

CALVING EASE MATERNAL (CEM) is expressed as a differ-ence in percentage of unassisted births with a higher value indicating greater calving ease in first-calf daughters. It predicts the average ease with which a sire's daughters will calve as first-calf heifers when compared to daughters of other sires.

MATERNAL MILK EPD (MILK) is a predictor of a sire's genetic merit for milk and mothering ability as expressed in his daugh-ters compared to daughters of other sires. In other words, it is that part of a calf's weaning weight attributed to milk and mothering ability.

C A R C A S S

CARCASS WEIGHT EPD (CW) expressed in pounds is a predictor of the differences in hot carcass weight of a sire's progeny compared to progeny of other sires.

MARBLING EPD (MARB) expressed as a fraction of the difference in USDA marbling score of a sire's progeny compared to progeny of other sires.

RIBEYE AREA EPD (RE) expressed in square inches, is a predictor of the difference in ribeye area of a sire's proge-ny compared to progeny of other sires.

FAT THICKNESS EPD (FAT) expressed in inches, is a predictor of the differences in external fat thickness at the 12th rib (as measured between the 12th and 13th ribs) of a sire's progeny compared to progeny of other sires.

F O O T S C O R E

CLAW SET EPD (CLAW) is expressed in units of claw-set score, with a lower EPD being more favorable indicating a sire will produce progeny with more ideal claw set. The ideal claw set is toes that are symmetrical, even and appro-priately spaced.

FOOT ANGLE EPD (ANGLE) is expressed in units of foot-angle score, with a lower EPD being more favorable indicating a sire will produce progeny with more ideal foot angle. The ideal is a 45-degree angle at the pastern joint with appropriate toe length and heel depth. $ VA L U E S

MATERNAL WEANED CALF VALUE ($M) an index expressed in dollars per head, predicts profitability differ-ences in progeny due to genetics from conception to weaning.

BEEF VALUE ($B) a terminal index value expressed in dollars per head, is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for post weaning and carcass value compared to progeny of their sires.

COMBINED VALUE ($C) an index expressed in dollars per head, includes all traits that make up both $M and $B with the objective that commercial producers will replace 20% of their breeding females per year with replacement heifers retained within their own herd.

GRID VALUE ($G) an index, expressed in dollars per carcass, to predict profitability differences in progeny due to genetics for carcass grid merit compared to progeny of other sires.

This program is called Igenity Total Cow Connection (I-TCC). We are testing our bulls with the same program with which you can test your cows. It provides you the opportunity to better choose a bull that will ‘steer’ your cowherd in the direction of your choice. It will also assist you in finding the most profitable females in your herd. We are excited to be working alongside Igenity to provide more profitable opportunities for our customers. There will also be Igenity TCC informational catalogs available on sale day or visit our website to download the digital catalog. On sale day, please feel free to ask us any questions about Igenity TCC. If you need the I-TCC full number breakdown on this set of bulls, we will have copies at registration.

The Last Buggy Whip Maker to go out of business over 100 years ago, most certainly made the very f inest buggy whip with the best materials, had the, strongest work ethic and f inest personnel…..but at the end of the day it did not matter. This piece of wisdom was given to me by one of the most successful catt le producers I have ever known. While exist ing catt le market drivers have been maturing for the last decade these market drivers have gone into over drive the last 12 months.

The Changing Buggy Whip Culture.. .

1. Consumers are demanding and paying for animal source and value added information at l ight speed. This means under performing feeder catt le in terms of growth, carcass merit , eff ic iency and health status wil l be vulnerable to historic feeder calf discounts. 2. Grid Marketing is in control of the carcass and retai l beef business. Today, 8-20-19 the difference between PRIME and SELECT 1400 pound steer is $485/head, which means a 500 pound feeder steer that grades SELECT needs to sel l at a 93 cent discount per pound to a STEER that wi l l grade PRIME and 40 cents to a STEER that grades CHOICE. The strategy by COSTCO and WALMART to change the demographic of their customer base requires PRIME beef in their meat case. WALMART and COSTCO business model has created a shortage of PRIME product This paradigm shift means low marbl ing catt le genetics are suspect to being today's BUGGY WHIP experience.3. VALUE-ADDED PROGRAMS are not going away. Careful evaluation of the appropriate VALUE-ADDED PROGRAM is a worthwhile exercise. Post Weaning Genetic Suggested Priorit ies for certain value added programs: GAP 4/Organic/Never-Ever - Doci l i ty, growth, r ib eye area, feed eff ic iency, reduce fat. NHTC- Doci l i ty, growth, r ib eye area, reduce fat. Conventional- Doci l i tyl-marbl ing, increase fat, Branded BEEF- appropriate VALUE added program plus Tenderness. 4. Generic programs survive by becoming the lowest cost producer. 5. The TYSON fire is a huge wakeup cal l that ki l l l space is not absolutely guaranteed for every beef animal in a t imely fashion. Fire, natural disaster, terrorist event, human health event, labor issue can al l upset the beef catt le supply and demand balance. The beef market place favors predictable, trouble free animals that sel l at a premium. Reputation catt le and programs wil l always have a marketing advantage over generic inventory. 6. It is a 6 to 10 year cycle to change the genetic footprint in a commercial cow……which also means it takes 15 or more years to identify a genetic misdirection and f ix it . In other words known predictable genetics raised in real world environments with real ist ic genetic goals and a proven cow herd are priceless compared to the alternative or an unproven latest and greatest idea.

The above observations represent the overal l TCC phi losphy. Namely, chal lenging ourselves to apply common sense and working to keep our customers genetics current within the beef industry. In other words, fads or what is hot or popular is not a cr iteria we consider important. What is important is keeping our customers ranches profitable by emphazing cow longevity, managing inputs and creating buyer demand. A few examples of this phi losophy: 1. No bul ls wi l l have their feet tr immed. 2. We have recognized the importance of maternal calving ease for several years. 3. We selected for marbl ing and not growth as the best way to keep our cl ients sustainable. We are not satisf ied to rest on our programs past accomplishments.
