The spring meeting was held on 7 April at the University of Rhode Island. The speaker was A1 E1- linthorpe of the Naval Underwater Systems Center (NUSC), New London, who described his extensive work on underwater acoustic fluctuationscarried out at the Azoresfixed acoustic range (AFAR) overthe pastseveral years. A Certificateof Appreciation waspre- / sentedto Wilson Lamb upon his retirement as chapter secretary. Musicalentertainment was provided by a saxaphone quartet con- sisting of Mark Moffett, Jim Strickland, and two members of the Coast Guard band. The summer meeting, jointly held with the Greater BostonChap- ter, was held in Mystic, Connecticut on 30 May. The technical speaker wasRobert Bruce of Bolt Beranek and Newman Inc. (BBN), whosetopic was "Occupational NoiseExposure in America." The history of noisecontrol legislation aswell as cost, benefits, and methods were described. A musical programwasgiven by the "NUSC Offbeat Five" woodwind quintet headedby Fran Weigle. The fall meeting washeld at the Viking Hotel, Newport, Rhode Island on 26 September.
