MASS AND ROSARY FOR LIFE
Be a witness to your Faith — come to the 8:00am Mass and
Rosary for Life on the last Saturday of the month —September
27th, to pray for the protection of all Human Life from the
moment of conception to natural death.
St. Charles Borromeo Church September 21, 2014
When the Benedictine monk Anselm
Zupka was ordained a priest in 1967, he was
assigned by the Abbot to provide weekend help
at St Charles Borromeo Parish in Parma.
Forty-seven years later, Father Anselm OSB is still our faithful
weekend helper. In the last almost half-century, Father Anselm
has made hundreds of friends. He is frequently asked to witness
marriages and to baptize the young. He remains an inspiring
preacher. It would not be St Charles without Father Anselm. To
my knowledge, there is no priest in the Diocese of Cleveland, full
or part-time, who has served in one parish longer than he. In
2011, after many years as a German teacher and counselor at
Benedictine High School, Father Anselm “changed careers” and
became chaplain at Canton’s Walsh University. He quickly made
his mark there and he was selected as “Man of the Year” for
2014. Again during this school year—because of his University
responsibilities—Father Anselm is limited to our Saturday 4:00
and 6:00pm or to the Sunday 7:30am Masses at St Charles.
However, during holiday and vacation times, Father Anselm will
be available for our full schedule of Masses.
Thank you, Father Anselm as we mark your forty-seven
years of faithful service and friendship. We are looking forward
to your fiftieth anniversary with us in 2017!
Another word of thanks to all—in front of and behind
the scenes--who made last week’s Sixtieth Jubilee celebration
such a memorable event for Sister Patrick Marie—and for our
parish. A special tip of the Appreciation Hat to St Charles PTU
for providing and hosting the Reception.
Because of the federal government’s strict HIPAA rules,
it is very difficult for us to find out about parishioners who are
hospitalized or in nursing homes. The patient, or the family, must
contact us with information.
If you know of a parishioner--family or friend--in a
nursing home, please contact our Parish Office and give us the
parishioner’s name and tell us which nursing home. We do keep
a list and we do visit.
Parma Hospital does inform us about hospitalized
parishioners, but only if the parishioner specifically directs the
Hospital to contact us. When we visit Parma, we can ask just for
the computerized “St Charles list.” That list has only the names
of those who have indicated that they would welcome a visit. All
other hospitals indicate that the patient or family must contact
the parish directly.
The priests and Brian Pelcin bring the Eucharist to the
ill and elderly at home around the First Friday of every month.
Lay ministers of the Eucharist visit weekly. If you are an
Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist and you would like to
make one or more communion calls weekly, please contact Brian
Pelcin at 440-884-3030.
An important request: if you have dropped your “land
line phone” and now use only a cell phone, please contact our
Parish Office and give us your new number. We occasionally
face emergency situations: we need to contact a parishioner and
we must have a working number.
And now a final “good housekeeping” reminder:
congratulations to our newly engaged couples! Please meet first
with the priest of your choice and get a wedding date and a time
on the parish schedule book before reserving a hall or selecting a
band. We do not want to disappoint any young couples!
THANK YOU! Dear Priests and Parishioners,
Sincere thanks to all of you for a beautiful 60th
Liturgy and Reception in honor of my Jubilee. It was a
joyous occasion and I’m deeply touched and grateful for
all you did to make this day possible, and one I’ll never
forget.
Thanks, too, for your kind words of
congratulations, generous gifts, and most of all, your
prayers, love, support and friendship that I’ve
experienced over the 23 years at St. Charles. You are
“The Best” and be assured of my prayers. May our dear
Lord and Mother Mary grant to you and your families
many blessings and good health.
Love you all,
Sister Patrick Marie Walsh

Two years ago, our parish welcomed LIFE Teen as the
main form of ministry to our High School aged
parishioners. Many of us think LIFE Teen is simply a
new name, but it is important to know that LIFE Teen is
an international movement (31 countries). It began in
1985 out of Arizona and has grown faithfully over the
past 30 years by being Eucharistic and Marian focused.
We hope this helps you begin to support and pray for
our High School youth and St. Charles Borromeo’s own
LIFE Teen ministry.

back to their families at Offertory time. Our teachers are eager to
share their faith with the children. Please contact the PCRF
