PLEASE READ These are extraordinary times we're living in and the situation is likely to continue for some time. We're all going to find ways to manage and make our way through it and hopefully all of us will come out the other side of this. We're all focused on the Coronavirus and the affects this is having on us. Many of us are now without employment, others are members of the front line and fighting this in hospitals, others have elderly parents, friends or relatives they worry about, we have school-age children not in school, some of us can pay our bills and others can't and we're all taking a hard hit financially. It goes on and on. I want to make sure important information reaches those who do subscribe but we still have a rather meager email subscriber list. I'm also needing to deal with assorted issues personally directly relating to this crisis and am going to take a different approach to this newsletter because I need to tend to those. The Garden District has a huge subscriber list. Meg Johnson is their secretary and is the one who puts out their newsletters. She is doing an incredible job of keeping those on the GDNA subscriber list up-to-date and informed. She believes and acknowledges how powerful information is and the connections to the neighborhood that can be made through a newsletter and I strongly believe that too. Instead of spending lots of time re-creating those article blocks in this newsletter, I am instead going to include a link to the latest online Garden District Newsletter below and list a variety of topics in that newsletter that may pertain to those of us here. I am also going to include some other information pertaining to North Dodge and this pandemic in general below. I hope to be back to putting out our "normal" newsletter in our next installment. Pima County Health Dept Needs Volunteers PIMA COUNTY, March 31, 2020 - The Pima County Health Department is mobilizing volunteer opportunities through a dedicated website as the COVID-19 emergency response continues to unfold. The website, called pima.gov/COVID19Volunteer, directs volunteers to the AZ-ESAR-VHP registration system, which stands for Arizona Emergency System for the Advance Registration of Volunteer Health Professionals. Volunteers with any medical background may register in the ESAR system under the organization title “MRC (Medical Reserve Corps) of Southern Arizona.” Under Governor Ducey's Executive Order issued March 30, 2020, volunteers are considered Essential Workers. Brian Eller, a program manager with the Pima County Health Department who is coordinating volunteer efforts during the pandemic, said all volunteers are welcome, particularly those with medical expertise. Keith Boesen, a pharmacist and the chair of the Medical Reserve Corps of Southern Arizona, emphasized that registrants should be as detailed as possible with their credentials and licensing information. “This will greatly help us place you as the situation advances,” Boesen said. “We especially will need nurses with Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit capabilities.” When registering, volunteers may choose from three options. Health or medical volunteers can register under MRC of Southern Arizona; Pima County residents (as individuals) can register under “Pima County” or “Pima County Health Department;” and Faith-based and church group volunteers can register under “Pima County-Faith Based.” Amenities Closed at Parks CITY OF TUCSON CLOSES PLAYGROUNDS AND ADDITIONAL AMENITIES AT PARKS - The mayor, city manager, and Parks and Recreation director announced that pursuant to Tucson Code Section 21-2(b), Tucson Parks and Recreation has temporarily closed all ramadas, gazebos, playgrounds, outdoor fitness equipment, courts for basketball, bocce, and volleyball, as well as horseshoe pits, and splash pads.
