HIV prevalence always higher in prison than in the

community up- to 50 times (Mauritius)

HIV prevalence in women prisons almost always higher

than in men prisons.

50-80% of deaths in prisons reported to be due to TB

(HIV)

The proportion of injecting drug users/ drug

dependant people among the prison population can be

very high up to 50%
