CHAPTER I

TURKEY AND POLAND GENERAL TRADE INFORMATIONS

Bilateral Trade Relations

The trade which is between Poland and Turkey have begun with 23th of April in 1974.

Also Free Trade Agrement which has signed 4th of October in 1999 has used between these two countries untill 2004.

Afterwards Poland was member of European Union in 2004.

Therefore these agreements are removed and Customs Union Agrements begun to use instead of these agreements.

The Poland-Turkey Chamber of Commerce was established in 2007, and its founding members were 30 companies.

The goal of the Chamber is to support member companies.

Trade capacity which is between Turkey and Poland has increased regularly as from 2000.

Turkey’s exportation has grown thirteen(13) times as for that its importation has grown eighteen(18) times from 2000 to 2014.

But the trade balance which is between this two countries has grown against us after Poland was member of European Union.

Turkey’s exportation has been approximately 2.4 billion dollar to Poland and its importation has been approximately 3 billon dollar in 2014.

Apart from these, Cesaş Company have won Oksywskie and Polnocne military port tender of dock modernization in Gdyna which has opened by NATO and it worth 43 billion dollar.

Especially there are a lot of firms that are working about construction sector. Some of these firms are such as below:

Turkey – Poland Investment Relations

Approximate 150 Turkish firms which is the most working on the brink of ready wear sector are being in service. Firstly the trade begun with luggage trade, and after it is passed wholesale.

Also there are Turkish Firms which have been in service in the field of wet fruit and vegetable, halva, dry fruit and candy and information technologies in Warsaw, Gdansk and Lodz.

Apart from mentioned above, there are some Turkish Firms which have imported and delievered some products like a home textile, cloth and upholstery cloth, marble and natural stone, food, soap, cable, packing material and etc from our country.

The Trade Issues Between The Two Countries

Almost at all sectors in Poland, in particular it is seen foreign firms’ domination in retail market.

This makes it more difficult for new sellers to enter the market.

Citrus fruits, olives and olive oil, raisins in Turkey’s exports of agricultural products such as traditional Mediterranean members of the EU (particularly Italy, Spain and Greece) is subject to competition.

Turkey’s workers’ contribution which has paid to Social Security Institution (ZUS) in Poland directly don’t accept by Turkey’s Social Security Institution (SSK).

On the one hand milk and products with milk, every kind of steak, chicken’s meat and egg can’t export countries of European Union that’s why these Turkey’s products don’t exist in Poland markets.

Beko Beko Elektronik A.Ş was founded by Vehbi Koç, the founder

of Koç Holding (who also founded Arçelik A.Ş, the parent company of Beko, in 1955), in Istanbul, Turkey, 1967.

Name of Beko occurs combination with «Be» and «Ko» words. «Be» is coming from Bejerano Company and «Ko» is coming from Koç Company.

Beko is a white good producer. It’s a Turkish brand. Most of products produce in China because of labour cost.

Eti ETİ was founded by Firuz Kanatlı in Eskişehir, Turkey, 1962.

Name of Eti is coming from Hittite Civilization. The Hittites were an Ancient Anatolian people who established an empire centred on Hattusa in north-central Anatolia around 1600 BC.

Also Eti is using Hittite Sun as a logo. Hittites believed two Gods during their life. One of them is Storm-God and the other one is Sun-God. That’s why Hittites Sun is blessed for Hittites society.

Eti produce buscuit, cracker, cooky, cake, pie, chocolate and baby formula. Eti is a Turkish Brand and it produce in Turkey.

Evyap Evyap was founded by Mehmet Rıfat Evyap in Erzurum,

Turkey, 1927.

Name of Evyap is coming from founder’s surname. Evyap, is the market leader in Turkey with beauty soaps, skin care products, pre and after shave products.

Evyap produce from soap to shower gels, from shampoos to shaving products, from skin care to fine fragrance, from baby diapers to toothpaste, and many other categories of products in over 100 countries.

Evyap is a Turkish brand and they produce in Turkey and some countries such as Egypte and Ukraine.

Şimşek Şimşek was founded by Şimşek Family in Karaman, Turkey,

1996.

Name of Şimşek is coming from family’s surname.

Şimşek offers more than 300 brands including biscuits, chocolates, wafers, cakes and crackers, its dynamic structure and professional management model have for years made the company the export champion of the Karaman region.

Despite its short history, Şimşek has taken its place among the largest 500 companies of Turkey and continues to grow with confidence, strengthening its place on the Turkish and world markets.

Why Turkish products are less in Poland?

In my opinion, there are three factors that cause it to be less of Turkish products.

The main reason is that Poland is a member of European Union. Therefore Poland imports most of products from other European countries.

The other reason is that Poland almost produce most of products itself.

The last reason is that the issues arising from trade agreements.
