The Third Meeting of Turkey – Pakistan High Level Cooperation Council

The third meeting of Turkey – Pakistan

High Level Cooperation Council (HLCC) was

held in Ankara on September 17, 2013

under the chairmanships of Prime Minister

of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and

Prime Minister of Pakistan, Nawaz Shariff.

Speaking at the joint press conference,

Prime Minister Erdoğan said that the steps

that could be taken to develop bilateral

cooperation, especially in energy and trade

relations, were discussed. Furthermore, he indicated that the bilateral trade volume is far

from the desired levels and said that it was agreed that the trade volume should be

increased to higher levels. “Joint Declaration on Turkey – Pakistan Strategic Cooperation”

was signed by Prime Minister Erdoğan and his Pakistani counterpart during the press

conference. Additionally, 13 agreements and memorandums of understanding were signed on a varied range of fields between various institutions of Turkey and Pakistan.

Economy Minister Caglayan: Turkey’s Budget Deficit Less

Than 21 EU Countries

Turkish Minister of Economy Zafer Caglayan came

together with representatives of Turkish foundations

and US-based Turkish businessmen in New York City.

Caglayan informed US-based Turkish businessmen

about Turkey’s recent economic condition and the

intended Free Trade Agreement between the USA and

Turkey. Caglayan said that Turkey’s budget deficit ratio

to GDP was 2%, less than that of 21 EU countries, and

added, “Turkey has not had a deficit in its budget in the first eight months, but rather a

budget surplus.” Caglayan indicated that the intended Free Trade Agreement between

the US and Turkey was a long process. Addressing the US-based Turkish businessmen, Caglayan said, “You are our permanent promotional representatives (in USA).”

Ministry Allots $270 Million to 103 Brands

The Economy Ministry’s Turquality program, which offers

Turkish brands both monetary and advertising assistance,

have allocated 540 million Turkish Liras ($270 million) of funds

to 103 brands since 2006, Economy Minister Zafer Çağlayan

has said. Meanwhile, the government aims to ensure that at least 10 Turkish brands

become global brands by 2023, hence the Turquality program, currently supporting 103

brands across 91 companies. The Economy Minister said the program also raised

Turkey’s export value per kilogram. “Turkey’s average export unit price per kg was $1.58

in 2012. However, the companies within the scope of the Turquality program have an export unit price per kg at $2.34,” he said.

Turkey’s Foreign Trade Volume to Reach $500 Billion

Chairman of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM) Mehmet Buyukeksi stated that

Istanbul had a $200 billion value in foreign trade volume, and they aimed to increase it

to $500 billion in 2023. Speaking in Istanbul at the 4th Istanbul Finance Summit (IFS)

under the theme of “finance of sustainable expansion,” Buyukeksi stated exports gained

a 5% increase in 2013 and more than 3,600 Turkish companies have exported goods

worth over $5 billion. He noted the latest statistics showed exports had increased from

26% to 45%, and the support to the exporters would advance the Turkish economy through employment and especially investment.

Turkish Companies To Participate In The Big4 Show Rebuild Libya

The 4th version of Big4 Show Rebuild Libya International Construction Industry Exhibition

will be held in Tripoli, Libya on September 23-26, 2013. Turkey will participate in the

Turkey’s Passenger Car Sales Up 25.16 Percent in August

According to the statistics released by the Turkish

Automotive Distributors Association (ODD), in the

first eight months of this year the domestic

passenger car market increased by 20.9 percent

compared to the same period last year, with sales

rising to 399,429 units. In August, domestic sales of

passenger cars totaled 51,611 units, up 25.16

percent compared to August 2012 and down 7.36

percent month on month. In the first eight months,

sales of light commercial vehicles in Turkey declined

by 9.08 percent compared to the first eight months

of last year, falling to 118,953 units. In August, sales of light commercial vehicles totaled

13,432 units, up 15.4 percent compared to July this year and falling 20.6 percent year on year.

Turkish Mining Sector Exports Reach 3.3 bln USD

Turkish mining sector’s exports reached 3.3 billion USD in the first eight months of 2013.

Istanbul Minerals and Metals Exporters’ Association (IMMIB) stated that Turkish mining

industry continues to provide added value into Turkish economy with success in export.

The sector has succeeded a 3.3 billion USD export between January and August in 2013

and increased its export by 26.5% when compared with the same period of 2012. Mining

export was made mostly to China, US, Iraq, Belgium and Italy respectively during the

mentioned period of 2013. Turkish mining industry’s export was 401 million USD in August increasing by 17.1% when compared with the same month of 2012.
