Turbin gas sudah dikenal sejak zaman Hero of Alexandra oleh Dr. J. T. Retallita. Desain pertama direncanakan oleh Yohn Barther (Inggris) pada tahun 1791.
Pada tahun 1872 Dr. F Stolze merencanakan sistem turbin gas mempergunakan kompresor aksial bertingkat ganda.
Pada tahun 1935 sistem turbin gas mengalami perkembangan yang pesat.
