Tukula (meaning "we grow") is an accesso-ries line based in Jinja, Uganda. We hire young women who are trained as seam-stresses but aren't able to find consistent
work. Along with a fair wage these women receive medical care, an encouraging work
environment, and access to savings programs.
In addition to our full time employees, we provide paid interships for women who are on the verge of dropping out of sewing
school so that they can continue with their studies and receive a job immediatly after graduating. By relieving the pressure of school fees, medical fees, and daily
expenses, these ladies are able to walk with expenses, these ladies are able to walk with confidence and joy.
By purchasing all of our materials in local markets we are able to help Uganda's
economy from start to finish. Each item is made from printed fabric called kitenge that is used in many Ugandan's day to day lives. Due to the inconsistency in availability of these prints, all of our items are made with "limited edition" prints, which give our "limited edition" prints, which give our
products a one of a kind quality. The tukula logo is screen printed on each of our
products, allowing the ladies the ability to learn a new skill and keep with our unique
design aesthetic.
