Together for

Lincoln

Transitioning from

a Day to a Way

After seven years of community service to the city of Lincoln, the board of Together for Lincoln has decided to discontinue our annual workday. It was always the intent of TFL to encourage the residents of Lincoln to move from a day of service to a way of service. We feel we have accomplished our mission. As a final project, TFL will be constructing a community picnic shelter in Ray White Park. As our treasury balance is a little short of what is needed, we are asking our church parishioners to help in this endeavor. If you would like to contribute, please use one of the envelopes found at the end of the pews. Please make your checks payable to Holy Family Church and write “Together for Lincoln” in the note section so that it is tax deductible. Thank you so much for your support throughout the years. It has been greatly appreciated.

“Feed the Hungry” The Holy Family Food Pantry is in need of food staples such as: fruit, macaroni & cheese, vegetables, soup, cereal, and other such nonperishable items to help replenish the pantry shelves. To collect these items, at Holy Family there is a shopping cart located to the right in the main entrance, at St. Mary’s a box is provided in the gathering area, St. Patrick’s and St. Thomas Aquinas items may be left in the main entrance. Thank you for all your past support.

Be sure to become a member to receive exclusive coupons and recipes and learn about

extra ways for our school to earn monies. Money we receive is used to purchase items for the school. You may turn in BoxTops at the school office or put them in an envelope marked BoxTops and put them in the Sunday collection baskets at all parishes. Thank you for your continued support of Carroll Catholic School!

Cold and Flu Cold and Flu Cold and Flu Cold and Flu

Season!Season!Season!Season! We are in the season when sniffles, sneezing, etc. are happening due to allergies,

sinuses and other viruses in the air. Some people are much more at risk from these than the vast majority of us. So, they may choose to offer a simple bow or smile instead of the handshake at the sign of peace; may also choose to abstain from the Eucharistic cup; may sit in a somewhat more protected

spot (if available). Do not presume they are being unfriendly. They are taking appropriate cautions. If someone has a cold, common sense and courtesy would suggest that they refrain from the Eucharistic cup until they have recovered. In every instance, courtesy and sensitivity to others will help us knit together in charity and worship as a community. Let us continue to strengthen the bonds of charity between us and accord one another the maximum of freedom and respect in the Lord.

If you have not yet returned a pledge card, you will find cards available at the entrances of each church. No gift is too small. To those who have contributed, we are most grateful.

MAKING A BIG DIFFERENCE, WITH LITTLE EFFORT!

Dove, Inc. is a Christian charity organization, based in Decatur. This organization has begun a “Coupons for Overseas Military Program” that benefits the soldiers, and their families, stationed overseas. The program accepts coupons for both food and non-food products, as long as they are manufacturer’s coupons - not store coupons. Participating bases and commissaries will even accept expired coupons as old as six months. Several bases have written the organization letting them know how much the effort is appreciated. A few types of coupons that are also appreciated are coupons for products and food for babies and dogs. The volunteers for Dove Inc. also feel that this program lets the soldiers know that they have not been forgotten by civilians back home. If you wish to donate coupons for this organization, please place them in an envelope and send them to the Parish Office via Sunday collection, bringing them by the Parish Office or by mailing them to the Parish Office at 316 South Logan Street, Lincoln, IL 62656.

Since 2011, Woven Together has helped seven children find their forever families. The Butterflies Kids' Sale is a proven fundraiser for the Woven Together Adoption Fund.

But the sale is not just about raising money. Every Butterflies Sale presents many opportunities to raise awareness for the plight of orphans. Of the 163 million orphans in the world, only 5% are adoptable. Woven Together is working to find ways to address this crisis and to educate our community about how to care for orphans through adoption, foster care, and global orphan care. Butterflies Kids’ Sale is the largest fundraiser for Woven Together’s Adoption Fund in the form of a consignment sale. We split the proceeds with 60% going to consignors. How can you help? We need consignors who want to sell quality fall-winter clothing sizes infants to juniors, toys, movies, sports equipment, and children’s décor. We need people who live in high traffic areas who would be willing to put signs up in their yards to advertise the sale. We also need people to volunteer for set up before the sale, man the counter, and organize shelves during the sale. Contact Betsy Lewis at (217) 871-8783 or [email protected] When? Open to the public September 23-26th. Consignors and volunteers shop early. For more information find our Facebook page or http://butterfliesconsignment.blogspot.com/
