Thank you!!
Please send your child with a warm coat, hat and mittens daily. Mittens are best to help foster independence. We try to get outside everyday even as the temperature gets colder. Label ALL items with your child’s name. Boots should be provided not just for snow but also for mud.
Dear Parents,
Please be reminded that toys, games, tech gadgets and personal items need to be kept at home so your child is not distracted and does not encounter issues with these personal items during the school day or on the bus. With the recent issues regarding the internet and child safety, we need to work together to ensure that items such as tablets, Apple Watches, cell phones, and any other devices which can access the internet are kept at home. Below is the policy from the RES handbook.
Toys, Games, Personal Items Students are prohibited from bringing items to school such as a Smart Watch, cell phones, Smart Phones, tablets, or other electronic devices. These items alter the learning environment and can be damaged or lost while at school. The school does not accept responsibility for personal items lost, stolen, or damaged at school. These devices are not permitted on the school bus unless arranged in advance with an administrator or teacher for a mutually agreed upon purpose.
At times certain “fad” items such as “Trading Cards” or “Fidget Spinners” cause interruptions to instruction or distractions in the cafeteria. When something such as this occurs, the school reserves the right to ask that children not use these items in school. Beepers, laser pointers, electronic devices, and cellphones are also not allowed in school. In no case will any personal communication evice be permitted for use that provides for a wireless, unfiltered connection to the Internet or which has the capacity to take photographs of any kind. Parental consent will be required if a classroom teacher allows the use of eReaders such as Kindles, Nooks, or other tablets. Toys and stuffed animals can cause a disruption to learning and conflict on the bus, cafe or playground. Children should not bring them to school.
Thank you for your cooperation. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to call. In partnership for student safety, Natalie Hammond

Thank you for working together to keep RES safe.
The RES Lost and Found is overflowing! The lost and found is
located in the RES Cafeteria. Please feel free to stop in any time and look for your
child’s belongings or ask your child take a peak. Remember to label your child’s

Please remember to create an absence
or tardy for your child(ren) in SCHOOL
DISMISSAL MANAGER (SDM). Our
nurse is spending much of her morning
calling parents to check on students
who are home sick. This report helps
her manage the process, and we know
your child is home safe. You do not
need to call our nurse, if you use this
tool.
We appreciate your help. Thank

From our PTA President
Important School Issues at the Town and State Levels - Stay Informed!
Many in our RES community have asked about the pending school regionalization bills in the news, CT Senate Bills 457, 738 and 874,
and House Bill 7150, which are currently under consideration.
Our Redding Board of Education formally came out against two of
these state-level regionalization proposals earlier this month (read the Board’s letter to our state representatives here).
On Feb. 27, I attended a legislative breakfast sponsored by CT PTA that was at-tended by our State Senator, Will Haskell, and other lawmakers. I shared with Sena-
tor Haskell an important message from our membership: when considering legislation that impacts schools, we must first listen to our educators at all levels, and our
school families. If you have thoughts on these bills or other pending legislation sur-rounding our schools, you can email Senator Haskell and our House Representa-tives, Raghib Allie-Brennan and Anne Hughes. They want to hear your thoughts.
Additionally, Redding's budget process is well underway, and there is much work ahead locally -- you are encouraged to share your thoughts on our schools with your BOE and BOF representatives during this important process!

Speaker Toni D’Agostino Will Explain Restorative Practices at RES
Along with schools across the USA, RES is moving towards a Restorative Practices
approach to improving school climate.
Restorative practices is an emerging field that studies how to strengthen
relationships between individuals as well as social connections within communities. It
allows for a shift in practice that results in a culture that is inclusive, builds fair
process into decision-making practices, and helps students learn to address the
impact of their actions.
Curious about what this means for students at RES? Join us on Weds. 3/6 at 8:30 am!
If you can’t be there in person, we will live stream the talk and meeting on our

Event Preview - International Festival on 3/30!
Sirius Coyote -Music of Las Americas
This year’s International Festival on March 30 will bring
the whole world to Redding’s doorstep as we celebrate
One Town | Many Stories!
Some of the stories that we will explore at this year’s
Festival are the enchanting rhythms and powerful folk-
lore of contemporary and ancient America. Sing, clap,
and dance along with Sirius Coyote on a musical jour-
ney from Mesoamerica and the Caribbean to the North
American Plains and Woodlands.
Help Wanted!
Bulletin Boards Celebrating Art and World
March is bringing two opportunities for RES fami-lies to flex their creative muscles and provide help
for just an hour or two in producing displays for upcoming PTA events. If you’ve wanted to get in-
volved but don’t have a lot of time, this is a great way to do it!
The International Festival is coming on March 30!
Contact Maisie Wallick to join the team that is cre-ating 3-D bulletin boards to support this festival celebrating RES’ global connections. This work is
happening this week, so get in touch today!
After our Guest Artist event with Rob Mars on 3/8,
art teacher Becky Holden will create a display of the artwork that students create with Rob. Contact Ms. Holden if you would like to help her celebrate
and display the artwork created on this special day. Join in, create connections, and enhance the spirit of RES!
