  • Dear Compassionate Families, I recently read an article on how to help build resilience in children and how to teach children to cope with difficult situations. Just like adults, children often become over-whelmed during the holiday season and benefit from these additional teaching tools and strategies. Happy Reading! https://www.apa.org/helpcenter/resilience In continued partnership, Natalie Hammond

  • MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESCHOOL:

Reminder—please send your child to school with a coat every

day. Our playground is VERY windy which makes the

temperatures feel even colder!! Thank you.

    Conversation with the Principals

Wed., Jan. 8, 2020 at 8:30a— RES Café followed by PTA Meeting

TOPIC: Advanced Learning Opportunities for Gr. K—4 with Mr. Farina

    Followed by the PTA Meeting

    Reminder from the PE Department:

All 3rd & 4th graders will cross country ski or snowshoe on their PE days. Although there are times

when students may not go outside for their recess period, there is a chance that they might go

outside for PE classes if weather conditions permit.

Not only are these activities self-paced, but they are great heart healthy

activities for all. We are asking that your child be prepared with proper

snow attire (jacket, snow pants, hat and gloves) for each of their scheduled

physical education classes. We would hate for them to miss these terrific

activities and the opportunity to have fun alongside their friends!

Rebecca Richards, STEM Coach is looking for:

Any random single gloves or mittens around at home—all sizes and materials are welcome. If you have any fabric that you are not using, we could use that as well. We will be using these materials for a science investigation.

We do NOT need any paper towel, wrapping paper

or toilet tissue rolls. All good with them.

    THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!

  • REMINDER FROM OUR HEALTH OFFICE

With cold/flu season in full force, Please remember these guidelines as to when to keep your child home from school. Keeping A Child Home From School: 1. Fever at or greater than 100 degrees. Student MUST be fever-free for 24 hrs. before returning to school. 2. Nausea and/or vomiting - Must not have vomited within 24 hrs. prior to returning to school. 3. Diarrhea - Must not have had diarrhea within 24 hrs. prior to returning to school. 4. Confirmed Strep Throat, Conjunctivitis ("pink eye") - Until treated for 24 hours. 5. Mononucleosis - As advised by physician (usual considerations: fever-free for 24 hours, rested, eating normally and able to sustain at least a half day of academic activity). 6. Varicella (Chicken Pox) - Children with chickenpox are contagious for 1-2 days before the rash appears and continue to be contagious until all the blisters are crusted over (usually 6-8 days). 7. Pediculosis (Head Lice) - Up to the discretion of school personnel (school nurse & principal). If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call our health office at 203 938-2519 Ext. 309 and speak with Jessica Oliver, RN, RES School Nurse

  • RULES & REMINDERS

Please do not enter or park in the bus circle during “bus hours:” Mornings between 7:45a—8:15a

(possibly longer on days with inclement weather) and afternoons between: 2:30p—3:10p.

Please be aware for safety and security reasons, the school playgrounds are ONLY available for

public use after our school day ends at 3:00pm and on weekends. We also ask that parents do

not come to school to be a visitor at outdoor recess.

School Dismissal Manager (SDM) is the web-based program we use for ALL dismissal excep-

tions. Please be sure you use that site to indicate what your child is doing on days they are NOT

doing their “normal” default. Please do so by 9:30a each day.

IF your child has an early dismissal planned, please enter that in SDM before the start of the school day. We broadcast that information at 8a in the morning to teachers so they can plan the day accordingly. Information received after that time is not seen by the teacher.

SDM is also used to record absences, early dismissals AND returning back to school after an ear-ly dismissal.

NOTE: If your child is going to another child’s home—getting off at a different stop—please use ALTERNATE BUS—even if it is your child’s USUAL bus. We might not catch it in our reports otherwise.

According to our recent Fall Climate Survey RES family and com-munity members are interested in being more involved in school wide activities in our building. You spoke, and we hear you! In an effort to increase this transparency, we plan to increase our social media presence to give you an 'inside-look' at our day to day happenings, in addition to our school wide events.

Be sure to follow us on Twitter (@RESRedding) or Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/RESCTRedding/ ). If you have any questions, or need assistance with getting logged in and connected, please reach out to Joe Amodio ([email protected]) or Sarah Peronace ([email protected])

Please be sure you have a government issued photo ID on you for entry into the

    school each and every time.

EVEN if we recognize you, we will ask for your ID.

    This is our policy.

There may be times when a different SSO, volunteer, sub or other personnel might be on duty that

do not recognize you. THANK YOU FOR KEEPING OUR SCHOOL SAFE FOR EVERYONE!!

  • Attention Redding Residents: Partners in Education Preschool Program (Located at RES)

LAST CALL!!! We are currently accepting applications through January 17, 2020

    for our 2020-2021 Preschool Programs

Applications are now available through the RES Website, under the school resources ink. You may email the form back to [email protected] or mail back to the ad-dress on the form.

If you need additional information, please call 203-938-0104

Please be reminded to follow all traffic rules while driving in our parking lots and areas around RES. People have been observed not stopping at posted stop signs and exceeding speed limits when driving through our parking areas.

WOW - IT’S GETTING COLD OUTSIDE!!

Please be sure to send your child to school with warm clothing that can be

layered. Recess is held outdoors whenever possible. The rear of our

building can be blustery cold on any given day.

Ideally, label everything with your child’s name on it. Gloves, hat, scarf,

sweater, sweatshirt or a warm coat are most helpful each and every day.

Even having a spare set of socks and pants in your child’s backpack MAY

come in handy when there is snow and rain.

    FROM THE HEALTH OFFICE

Your help is needed. Our health office is looking for gently used, children’s clothing. As the weather gets colder and our play-ground area wet from rain, students are asking for sweaters and sweatshirts to keep warm. We also find students may need a change of clothes that are warm and dry. Some popular needed items include Gr. 3 and Gr. 4 girls leggings, shirts, sweaters. And Gr. 3 and Gr. 4 boys sweatpants, socks and shirts. Please put them in a bag with HEALTH OFFICE noted on it, and leave it on the table in our vestibule. THANK YOU.
