WHAT IS IT ?WHAT IS IT ?● A tsunami is a huge wave with an extreme height which
has enough power to destroy a whole city. These waves are exceptionnal, very impressive and very dangerous.
HOW DOES IT APPEAR ?HOW DOES IT APPEAR ?● A tsunami is mainly caused by an underwater earthquake
which will create small, but very fast waves. While approaching the coast, the depth of the water will decrease fast. That will cause the waves to slow down and grow to an height which can reach 30 meters.
ITS EFFECTSITS EFFECTS● A tsunami has an enormous destructive power. They are
the cause of many disasters, like in Japan in 2011.

WHAT DO WE THINKWHAT DO WE THINK● We think that the tsunamis are one of the most dangerous
natural disasters because it is hard to be protected from them. They are very destructive and fascinating.
HOW TO BE PROTECTED ?HOW TO BE PROTECTED ?● In Japan,in the port of Nomazu, there is a 9,3 meters gate
which closes if it detects an earthquake. This device can be very effective, but it can't protect from a giant tsunami.
