Flood Relief Star While most of us watched the Christmas holiday floods on the television, Josh Capper (10JKK)spent every day helping with the clear up operation. Our school received letters from The Salvation Army and Baildon & Shipley Flood Relief Group complementing Josh for his enthusiasm and commitment as well as describing him as “a valued member of the team.” Josh recently accepted an award at the Shipley Area Community Heroes Award night on behalf of his group. Well done Josh. We are incredibly proud of you! TSS YEAR 10News Welcome to the Year 10 Spring Newsletter. It has been another busy term for Year 10 students and we are delighted with how the year group has made an excellent start to GCSE studies. A big thank you for all your support, especially regarding attendance. Attendance is the key to success and every day really does count. We continue to receive many positive comments from subject teachers. Well done Year 10! January Our News … March 2016 Cross Country Success A huge well done to David Roper (10MON), Oliver Murphy (10BEN) and Summer McAllister (10YNG) who represented TSS at the Bradford Schools Cross Country Competition. On a cold, wet day the boys finished 12th and 13th respectively and narrowly missed out on being selected to represent Bradford. Summer’s time was fast enough for her to qualify to represent Bradford in the West Yorkshire Schools Competition and her efforts there helped Bradford to the overall silver medal, despite losing both her trainers in the process! Well done all of you, we are very proud of your achievements. Rainy Geography Year 10 Geography students visited Menston (in the pouring rain) as part of their controlled assessment study on two potential housing developments. They were there primarily to collect their own data in the form of observations, notes and photographs. This could then be used in controlled assessment work regarding the viability of the planned housing developments. Following the trip, a group of students interviewed a local councillor to get a different viewpoint on the issue. Impressive work everyone, well done! February

Cross Country SuccessA huge well done to David Roper (10MON), Oliver Murphy (10BEN) and Summer McAllister (10YNG) who represented TSS at the Bradford Schools Cross Country Competition.

MarchDofE Update Over 50 students from Year 10 have started their expedition training. Every Tuesday after school they have been learning first aid, looking at how to deal with unconscious casualties and other serious injuries. Many of the students have been working on their volunteering sections including: Scott Blackburn (10FLE) - Bradford Cat Watch Rescue Centre, Josh Brockhouse (10GEN) - helping to marshal the Bradford park run, Molly Hattersley (10JKK) - teaching dance to younger children. Keep up the good work, we know you will all enjoy the expeditions!

Celebrate ReadingTo celebrate World Book Day students took part in a variety of reading activities. Some were encouraged to bring their favourite book, others read out loud in lessons and some had books read to them by staff. There was also an assembly dedicated to World Book Day and the importance of reading. The day was a huge success and we hope everyone will all be reading their favourite books over the holidays!

Students Sparkle in the SpotlightFebruary saw the culmination of many Year 10 students’ commitment to the Performing Arts with three excellent performances of the much-loved musical ‘Annie’. Energetically throwing themselves

into dance routines, songs and different character roles, the students did themselves extremely proud to enthusiastic applause each night. In particular, many Year 10s made up the dazzling dance troupe performing three wonderful numbers, including ‘N.Y.C’ and ‘Easy Street’. However, it was not just the on stage presence that Year 10’s were involved with; many worked as part of the technical team, running lights, sound effects and microphones and assisted with Front of House duties. Without such dedication to these details of the show it would not look or sound as fabulous – well done everyone!

Baking with HeroesFour lucky GCSE Food Tech students had the opportunity to enter a ‘Bake Off’ style competition in school, working alongside ex-service veterans, to support Help for Heroes. Lauren O’Connor (10GEN), Imy Graham (10JKK), Isaac Gibbs (10BEN) and Hayden Bryan (10YTS) each made a cake with one of the guests. Our very own ‘Bake Off ‘Star, Ms Docherty, kept an eye on proceedings and offered hints and tips. There wasn’t a crumb left by the end of the day so it’s safe to say the cakes were a big hit! The day was a fantastic experience for everyone and our students, as always, did us proud.

Year 10 – have a great break, have fun and be safe. We will see you back at TSS on Monday 11 April refreshed and ready to tackle the

summer term with the same determination and attitude as you have shown so far.

Many thanks for your continued support.
