“A-Frame” CylinderMounting (Pitless)

The “A-Frame” model is designedand built for above ground installa -tion. This type of truck dumper isvery desirable in areas with a highwater table or locations where thesoil does not allow the digging of a cylinder pit. The “A-Frame”arrangement allows for easy accessto the deck cylinders.

Under Deck CylinderMounting (Pit Type)

This model is sometimes preferredwhen the water table permits, and the cost of excavating a cylinder pit is not prohibitive. It leaves clean lines(flush with the ground) when in thedown position.

CylindersPhelps telescopic hydraulic cylindersare the heart of our dumpers. Theyare designed, manufactured, andwarranted by Phelps Industries. Each cylinder is engineered for eachspecific truck dumper applica tion.Some insights into our design are increased lap be tween stages for strength and a wider bearing for long life.

Power UnitThe shock resistant hydraulic circuit used on Phelps dumpersprovides smooth start and stop whenraising and lowering the platform.The circuit cuts heat build-up andpre vents leaks in the line caused by shock.

All power units are equipped with totally enclosed fan-cooledmotors in sizes to match theapplication. Hydraulic com ponentsare carefully matched to the rest of the system.

The DeckHere our main goal is strength andrigidity. The deck is built with twoheavy steel wide flange beams run - ning the full length. These beamsare also parallel to the wheels onthe trucks and trailers driving ontothe deck. In this loca tion the beamstake the maximum load. Steelsafety plate is welded to the top ofthe wide flange beams and crossmembers. Mild steel plates arewelded to the underside of the unitmaking a box section for maxi mumrigidity and strength. The entiredeck is welded together in theplant and shipped in one piece.

ModelsThe available models are deter -mined by the dumper length andthe tilt an gle. Our standard lengthsare 35’, 40’, 45’, 60’, 65’, 70’,and 75’ which in dicates theamount of usable deck. Angles oftilt to dump specific prod ucts vary,therefore, we have four standarddegrees of tilt, 36,̊ 45,̊ 55˚ and63.̊ These dumper models involvethree types of installation,permanent placement, semi-portable, and fully portable units.

Wheel Chocks36˚ and 45˚ dumpers areavailable with hydraulicallyoperated wheel chocks. The trailertires rest against the raised chockto keep the truck on the platformduring the dumping operation.These chocks are carefully engi -neered and heavily constructed toretain the load against them and to

Wheel GuidesFor safety purposes, and unlessother wise specified, all back – onmod els and models inclining to 55˚or greater are furnished with formedsteel wheel guides 7” high. A frontaxle, high-strength chain tie-down is provided on all models.

compensate for any misalignmentof the truck on the platform.

BackstopsThe weight of the trailer and theload is applied against the back -stop rather than against the tires asin the case of wheel chocks. Phelpscustomers have a choice of back -stops on most dumpers. They may

choose 1) a permanently fixedheight, 2) an adjustable height, or3) a retractable type which permitsdrive - through operation of thedumper, or a spring loadedvibrating backstop.

Raised PivotDumperThe raised pivot dumper has its

pivot point located at the nearupper corner of the back-stop bar.This allows a hopper or conveyorto be placed against the dumper,with only the trailer rotating overthe hopper or conveyor. This alsopro vides for a shallow receivinghop per to be installed completelyabove grade or to be installed withcon sid er able reduction inexcavation.

For some products, a cross-feedconveyor can be mounted to theraised pivot dumper, completelyeliminating the need for a re -ceiving hopper. Material flow to the conveyor is regulatedthrough the use of a metering gate attachment.

The raised pivot dumper is avail able as a back-on type in all stan dard lengths and tiltangles. It is also ideal forapplications where excavation is a problem or where a carefullymetered flow is desirable.

HoppersSeveral standard live bottom receivinghoppers are available in a variety ofholding capacities and discharge rates.All hoppers are available for handlingwood chips, bark, wood waste, andother bulk materials, such as, produce,scrap tires, and solid waste. Mechanicaland hydraulic drives operate a choice of drag chain or reciprocating floors.

The hopper walls are fabricated of 10 gauge mild steel plate. Thecarrying floor is 1/4" AR plate over 1/4" A36 plate. Return floor is 10 gauge.

Six strands of WD480 Drag Chain are used for conveying thematerial out of the hopper. These sixstrands provide full coverage of the bin floor.

Our standard 4400 cubic foot Hopper is designed to convey wood chips, bark,sawdust and shavings at a nominal 150 tons per hour, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.Reciprocating floors are made of aluminum. Hoppers aredesigned with the customer’s usage in mind. Hopper classifi cation is determined by the application and duty cycle required.

BackrakeThis accessory is designed for your new hopper or to retrofit an existinghopper. This backrake is for use in either hogged bark, hogged fuel, orother material applications. The rake,with its churning and shearing action,aids in breaking up clumps or frozenmaterial and provides a more even,consistent flow. The use of the PhelpsBackrake eliminates the needs for a discharge gate.

Portable ModelsWe offer a full line of portable modelsavailable in different styles and sizes for a variety of applications and material.

Portable units equipped with axles, wheelsand tires, allow for actual transport of thecomplete tipper solely on its own with onlythe use of a truck, dozer or other vehiclecapable of connecting to the unit and havingadequate towing capacity. This feature allows for applications with continuous andregular needs of relocation. Out fullyportable units are offered in different styles.Standard elevated units utilizing an extendedapproach ramp. The low profile tipper designuses two (2) single, short approach ramps of applications with limited space or wherean extended approach ramp is not practical.

A portable unit designed to be moved withless frequency utilizes a sub-frame only, withthe dumper sitting directly onto a flat surface.This unit is portable in that it is fully capableof being moved, yet must be lifted onto aflatbed trailer for transport. These portableunits are also offered in both the standardand low-profile types which utilizes a single,shortened approach ramp. The low-profilestyle portable unit may also be used incombination with a live floor hopper.

All portable units are equipped with eitherelectric power units or diesel operated self-contained power package.

ReclaimConveyorsPhelps Drag Chain ReclaimConveyors are offered in threedifferent models; Crossfeed, Under pile, and Loading. Cross-feed Reclaimers are used as take-away conveyors from ourreceiving hop pers. UnderpileReclaimers are used to take-awaywood chips from piles created by a woodyard stacker. A Load ing Reclaimer is fed material by a front-end loader; thismaterial then can be conveyed toanother destination.

Scale ModelsSome models of Phelps dumpers can be mounted over electronic or lever type truck scales. Anexcellent variety of instrument and ticket printer options isavailable.

Yokes (Extended Arm Dumpers)

Ordinarily, yoke dumpers are used to dump into above-ground livebottom hoppers for feeding to millor storage. Phelps will en gineer ayoke dumper to fit your existinghopper or furnish a com plete dumperand hopper package.

EngineeredDrawings And Installation ManualsAll of our dumpers are engineered to all parameterswith strength and rigidity in mind. Certified drawingsconsisting of a foundation boltplan, hydraulic and electricschematic, and, where required, a loading analysis is furnished with each job.Complete installation manualsand service instructions are provided with all Phelps truck dumpers.

Assembly And InstallationAssembly of your Phelps dumper is done for you in our plant. Thedeck is shipped as a completeweldment with back-stop or wheelchocks installed.

Only the “A-Frame” and “Yoke” dumpers require somefield assembly. No field weldingis required on pit type units.

Phelps dumpers are shipped to the job site on flatbed trailersand are ready to unload fromtruck to foundation; thus, installation is simple, and costsare kept to a minimum.
