Making Doors Important Again
I n t r o d u c t I o n t o t r u S t I l e
Reclaiming Your Home’s
Architectural History
There was a time when doors were
appreciated for their architectural
value, gracing the openings of homes
and embodying the principles of their
design periods. t TruStile, we miss
those days. Committed to partnering
with architects, homebuilders and
homeowners, we’re reviving the rich
tradition of building high-quality,
architecturally correct doors with a
range of customization options to fit
your preferences and your home’s
unique character.
Impacting Industry Thinking
Most door companies sell what’s easy
to build — limited sizes, styles and
design options. TruStile is distinctly
different, focusing on you and
offering the flexibility to create doors
that fit your design style — and your
home. We boast some of the shortest
lead times in the industry, making us
the only single-source door provider
that gives you unrivaled construction
quality and architecturally correct
designs — on time, every time.
The TruStile® Story
TruStile was founded in 1995 on the principles of design
flexibility and short lead times — two things that were
noticeably lacking in the custom door market. Our found-
ers recognized a market need for a dependable source of
high-quality doors easily specified to match any architec-
tural style and application. Referred to internally as “no
limits” manufacturing, this philosophy continues to be the
foundation of TruStile’s business. If you can dream it, we
can design and build it.
TruStile was one of the first door manufacturers to
leverage the superior benefits of MDF (medium density
fiberboard) for paint-grade door applications, and we’ve
since become the nation’s leading manufacturer of solid
MDF doors. In 2003, we brought our exceptional manufac-
turing principles to the stain-grade wood door market,
enabling us to fulfill virtually any door need for residential
and commercial projects.

correct doors provide enduring performance and beauty, and are made to your
exact specifications. When you can’t decide what looks best for your project,
check out our uthentic Designs® collection for doors that fit every style — from
rt Deco to Tuscan and Victorian.
Whether you’re searching for interior and exterior passage doors, glass, fire or
sound doors, we’ll help you maintain design consistency across every opening
in your home.
Why Look to TruStile® for Your Doors?
One Source for All of Your Doors
Why bother coordinating with
multiple door vendors? TruStile’s
comprehensive product options allow
us to fulfill all of your interior and
exterior door needs, regardless of
design and application.
Enduring Quality
t TruStile, quality isn’t just talk — it’s
our business. We use stile and rail
construction and the finest materials
to provide an authentic product that
accentuates its surroundings like fine
furniture. nd we back every TruStile
door with a limited lifetime warranty.
Short Lead Times
For many companies, “made-to-order”
means long delays. t TruStile, short,
reliable lead times are the standard —
not the exception.
Progressive Design Tools
TruStile provides you with premium
design tools at our industry-leading
Website, www.trustile.com. Use our
TruCD® door design tool to create
a door to your exact specifications
and print or download it in utoCD®
compatible DWG or DXF format.
Environmentally Friendly Doors
t TruStile, we know that doors
are an essential part of Green
building. Certified by SCS (Scientific
Certification Systems) to be con-
structed of 82-percent recycled
content, all of our MDF doors are
environmentally friendly so you
can achieve sustainable building
objectives without forfeiting style.
“Interior door design plays an important role in accentuating a home’s
architectural style. well-designed door gives you a preview of the
room you will find behind it. With TruStile’s custom design process, we
created doors that capture the true essence and character of the home.”
— Bestselling author, architect and cultural visionary Sarah Susanka on using TruStile doors
for her “Not So Big Show House” at the 2005 International Builders’ Show

Doors Are Essential to Home Design
Just as any other feature that goes into your project, doors
should be thoughtfully selected to reflect the home’s
unique style and character. Consider the important, but
often overlooked, role doors play in interior design:
Every room has a door, while other design features —
such as granite countertops, appliances and plumbing
fixtures — impact only one room.
Doors are used dozens of times everyday.
In addition to their aesthetic value, doors provide
security, privacy, noise reduction and room separation.

The Impact of TruStile
ll too often, the hollow-core, six-panel door is the default
choice for homes, even in custom projects that include an
otherwise impressive selection of amenities and upgrades.
However, the visual impact of high-quality, architectural
doors and complementing millwork is dramatic. Take a
glimpse at the striking difference a well-designed opening
makes in the look and feel of a room.

Parametric Construction
TruStile’s stile and rail construc-
tion is a made-to-order manufac-
turing process offering limitless
door styles, configurations and
panel and sticking profiles.
ecause we build to your
specifications, our doors are
constructed parametrically.
This means you no longer need
to settle for standard-sized
doors that are merely trimmed
to fit odd-sized openings.
Instead, we build your doors
with perfectly proportioned
components, created individually
to fit even the non-standard
openings in your project.
When you’re drawn to sturdy, classic
doors in older buildings, chances
are they were built with time-tested
stile and rail construction — the same
technique we’ve perfected at TruStile.
Instead of lowering manufacturing
costs by cutting corners and ignoring
the details, we design our doors with
separate components created to fit
together with 90-degree joinery and
crisp, distinct lines.
Each door’s precision-engineered
profile creates the depth and
shadows that define whether a
door enhances its architectural
setting, or merely fills an opening.
Only stile and rail construction
provides these architecturally correct
benefits — benefits that you simply
cannot achieve with a molded,
stamped or routed door.
All Doors Are Not Created Equal
The figure illustrates the timeless advantage of TruStile’s authentic stile and rail
construction. ll door components can be customized and combined to create
the style you desire, while the construction method gives each door crisp,
architecturally correct lines.

Stile and Rail MDF Doors
The Preferred Material
for Painted Doors
TruStile pioneered the use of
medium density fiberboard (MDF)
as a preferred material for painted
door applications, realizing its many
advantages over alternative materials
like natural wood. Since we introduced
our MDF doors to the market, we’ve
seen many impersonators. Read on
to discover why you should demand
authentic TruStile MDF doors for
your next project.
What is MDF?
MDF is an engineered wood product
made from recycled and recovered
wood fiber. The durable and homog-
enous construction of MDF resists
warping, cracking and splitting and
outperforms natural wood doors for
painted applications.
Authentic Stile and
Rail Construction
TruStile MDF doors are built with
genuine stile and rail construction.
Our solid MDF doors are never routed
or filled with cheap core materials like
those of our competitors. Instead,
each door is constructed to provide
superior, architecturally correct details
and an unequaled finishing surface.
Patent-Pending Hardwood
Wedge® Edge System
t TruStile, we don’t skimp on the
details. That’s why both edges of
every TruStile MDF door come
standard with our field-proven and
patent-pending Wedge edge system.
Designed to stand up to daily use,
the Wedge is made of hardwood
that provides superior rigidity,
stability and screw-holding power.

No-Added Formaldehyde MDF Available
TruStile’s no-added formaldehyde MDF is an
ideal choice for builders who are concerned
about indoor air quality and the reduction of
urea formaldehyde emissions. Constructed
using the same stile and rail construction as
our standard MDF doors, our no-added
formaldehyde MDF option is available for any
of our door designs.
Wood Doors Constructed to
Minimize Environmental Impact
The Tru-spec® core used within our natural
wood doors is made from fast-growing,
renewable woods from self-generating forests
and plantation-grown trees. Tru-spec* is
GREENGURD® certified for indoor air quality
and contains no urea formaldehyde.
When it comes to Green building, doors are an essential project detail.
Environmentally friendly and available in 400+ designs, TruStile’s paintable
MDF doors allow you to specify eco-friendly doors without compromising
style, design flexibility or quality.
Our MDF doors have been Green since we introduced them to the market
in 1995. Engineered from recycled and reclaimed wood fiber, the MDF we
use is manufactured from post-industrial wood scrap that would otherwise
go into the waste stream.

ratings, you never have to sacrifice style
when selecting 20- through 90-minute

glass doors for rated openings.
Fire Doors That Do Not Compromise Style
TruStile® completes its comprehensive

ute glass doors. Twenty-minute glass

is preferred.

Sound Transmission Class (STC) Ratings
TruStile® has tested its sound doors in operable openings with Zero International and Pemko sound gasketing packages.
Sound testing with operable doors creates a more realistic environment, and project specifiers should be aware that other
manufacturers may test their sound doors in inoperable, or unrealistic, openings.

Noise is an inescapable component
of life in the modern home and doors
have traditionally been one of the
weakest links in sound mitigation.
Typical hollow-core doors and “solid”
doors with low density and straw
cores offer little protection from
unwanted noise. ecause of their
weight, solid construction and high
density, TruStile® doors are an ideal
choice when it comes to sound
proofing a home. Our solid MDF
doors provide excellent sound ratings
relative to cheap, hollow-core doors.
Achieving Superior Sound Performance
Home theater featuring TS3070 in mahogany with custom porthole window
Sound Transmission Class (STC) Examples
STC Performance Description
50-60 Excellent Loud sounds heard faintly or not at all
40-50 Very Good Loud speech heard faintly
truStile door with correct gasketing
35-40 Good Loud speech heart but hardly intelligible
30-35 Fair Loud speech understood fairly well
25 - 30 Poor Normal speech understood easily and distinctly
Typical Hollow-Core Door 20-25 Very Poor Low speech audible
Sound ratings are classified by an STC
(sound transmission class) number
that rates a material’s ability to resist
airborne sound. higher STC rating
blocks more noise from transmitting
through a partition like a door. Stan-
dard TruStile MDF doors receive a
34 STC rating, some 10- to 15-points
better than typical hollow-core doors
that achieve a “very poor” rating. For
openings requiring even better sound
performance, TruStile can provide 60-
minute wood and MDF fire doors that
achieve up to a 39 STC rating.

Louver DoorsOur louver doors create architectural interest and
enhance a variety of styles. These plantation-style
louver doors feature fixed, over-sized louvers in
vented and false configurations. We can also switch
out louvers for any square panel within a TS panel
door (page 38) to create a customized look.
Vented Louver Doors
Vented louver doors permit air flow and passage,
making them ideal for closets and laundry rooms
where ventilation is preferred. This promotes lim-
ited visibility through the door on the non-blind side.
False Louver Doors
False louver doors feature a louver façade without
air flow or passage. They are ideal for applications
where a louver look is desired, but total privacy is
a necessity.
