WORKSHOP 2 with MR. MURASE of Suzusan in Arimatsu

DESIGN WITH SHIBORI AND TANNIN DYEING Workshop Dates: December 30, 2015 – Jan 3, 2016

Understand intricate techniques and delve into pattern and stencil making for shibori with Mr. Murase head of the Murase family of Suzusan. In addition, he will explore using the substantive dyes kakishibu (persimmon tannin) and gambiered silk/ mud cloth dyed with shuliang (Dioscorea criihosa Lour.) - used to create Japanese and Chinese traditional browns to blacks. Learn more about Chinese gambiered silk here. December 29th and earlier: Arrive into Shanghai – Accommodation not provided anytime before the 29th night. Flying into Pudong Airport (PVG) is recommended. For your stay, we recommend the Central Hotel Shanghai. December 29th, 20:30: Transport from Central Hotel Shanghai to Jin Ze Arts Centre. Arrive at Jinze Arts Center in late PM on night before the workshop. Add-On Day Trips OPTIONAL Day Trip A on December 29th: One day tour to Hangzhou or fabric market in Shanghai. Must be reserved online with non-refundable $35 USD deposit. Balance to be paid in USD cash in Shanghai. Arrive by 8:00 AM at Jin Ze Arts Centre for departure at 8:30 AM. OPTIONAL Day Trip B on January 4th: One day tour to Suzhou or fabric market in Shanghai. Must be reserved online with non-refundable $35 USD deposit. Balance to be paid in USD cash in Shanghai. Arrange your own hotel for the night of the 4th in Shanghai. Arrive by 8:00 AM at Jin Ze Arts Centre for departure at 8:30 AM. Transportation to and from Jin Ze Arts Centre A pick up from Central Hotel, Shanghai will be arranged at 20:30, the night before the workshop on December 29th. Departure transport back to Shanghai from Jin Ze is arranged on your own.
