September, 2016

A Season of Change It’s hard to believe fall is here already! It seems like yesterday that summer was beginning! The change of seasons represents other changes as well. We see the change in the leaves and the crisper air. Kids go back to a new year of school.

We are still in the midst of change here at Trinity. Change can often be unsettling. But as we continue to live out our calling to fulfill the vision God has sent before us, let’s remember that God is with us, guiding us and helping us in our e&orts. And let’s not lose sight that we are seeking to be more faithful in our witness and outreach to the world around us, in hopes that people will encounter Jesus through us and experience relationship with him. Thank you for your faithfulness in pursuing God’s vision. Living out our calling takes the e&ort of every one of us, and I am so grateful for the ways you have shown such tremendous faithfulness and commitment. Moving forward, together, Pastor Peter

Sta - Out and About Director of Children’s Ministries Mindy Boe attended a seminary called “Keeping Your Place of Worship Secure” in order to provide as safe and secure an environment as possible. Pastor Peter Vogt is teaching a course at Bethel Seminary, Hermeneutics, which deals with biblical interpretation.

Trinity Talk It’s a boy! Congratulations to John and Catherine Heapy on the birth of Simon Glenn on Friday, August 5. Simon weighed in at 6 lbs., 4 oz.

Notable September birthdays and anniversaries: Happy 80th birthday to Ginny (George) Olson on September 3. Congratulations to Alton and Pat Burns celebrating their 59th anniversary on September 1, and Dan and Kay Skoog (September 12) and Dave and Gerry Matthews (September 13) - both celebrating 58 years of marriage - and finally Irv and Betty Gutsche who will be married 64 years on September 27!

Pancake Breakfast! Trinity’s youth is preparing a pancake and sausage breakfast on Sunday, September 11, from 8:00 - 8:50 am, in the Social Hall. This is a fundraiser for their fall activities. What a delicious way to start Kick-o& Sunday!

New schedule for Trinity Times: Timely communication is critical in a church, but especially one as active as Trinity. So...beginning Sunday, September 11, the Trinity Times will be published weekly rather than monthly to better ensure good communication of all upcoming events. Each Sunday, copies will be available from an Usher or at the Welcome Center, as well as posted on our website (visit www.tbcmn.org, click the “About” and then “What’s Going On” tabs). Deadline to submit information each week will be Tuesday at 4:00 pm.

Reminder: In an e&ort to keep our services timely, announcements from the pulpit will be limited, and will need to be approved by Director of Worship, Ebony Ramquist, at least two weeks in advance. This will make these weekly editions of the Trinity Times very important to read each week.

Alpha course to begin Sunday, September 11

This fall, Trinity will be hosting Alpha, a course that explores the basics of the Christian faith. Experienced by 29 million people, in 100 languages and in over 165 countries around the world, Alpha addresses some of life’s biggest questions in a relaxed and respectful setting. Each week a meal will be shared followed by teaching and time for interactive, small group discussion. Sessions focus on topics ranging from “Who is Jesus?” and “Why did Jesus die?” to “Why should I read the Bible?” and “How can I have faith?” The 11-week course will meet at Trinity on Sundays, September 11 through December 4, from 6:00 - 8:15 pm, in the Fellowship Room. A “day away” retreat will also be held at a date to be determined in late October or early November. There is no cost for the course. Bring your friends, neighbors, relatives and questions. All are welcome! Childcare will be provided. To register or request more information, please contact the church oIce at 651.774.8609 during oIce hours, or contact Kurt and Katy Koestler at 651.845.4956 or email them ([email protected]/[email protected]).

Trinity Connections planning trip to Gamelgården

in Scandia

Date: Saturday, September 17 Time: 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

“Gammelgården” means Old Farm in Swedish. Here visitors can step back in

history and experience the lives of early Swedish immigrants in the only open air museum devoted to Swedish immigration in the United States. You can visit many buildings at the museum’s 11 acre site. Your tour guide will give a lot of information about the Välkommen Hus, Präst Hus, Gammel Kyrkan, Ladugård, Immigrant Hus and Swedish Stuga. For those who may have diIculty on the walking tour, you may enjoy the gift shop and grounds on your own and join us for lunch. We’ll meet at Trinity to arrange car pool rides, and then travel to Scandia to tour the grounds and museum followed by lunch (Swedish meatball meal with co&ee and dessert). Cost of the tour and lunch is $20 per person, payable at the time of registration. This event is open to everyone! Paid registrations are required by Sunday, September 11. You can sign-up in the church oIce or with Kathy Erickson (651-636-9573).

Tuesday Mornings

Topic: Practical Principles for Daily Living as Found in God’s Word by Charles Stanley Facilitator: Gerry Matthews Starting Date: Tuesday, September 20 (meets first and third Tuesdays of each month) Time: 9:30 - 11:00 a.m. Location: Fellowship Room (upper level) There will be discussions of the Life Principles outlined by Dr. Charles Stanley. Tuesday Evenings

God has entrusted us with the great and mighty gift of the gospel, something too precious and life-giving to keep to ourselves. In this 6-session Bible study, Beth will encourage you to guard what God has entrusted to you, further His kingdom by sharing Christ with others, and pour into future generations just as Paul once mentored Timothy. Because in this journey of joy and hardship, we need each other to stay the course and live a life of faithfulness. For more information, or to register contact Joyce Harley (651.429.6729 or at [email protected]).

Registration is needed for either study.

Paint-A-Thon Update Thanks to all the dedicated volunteers who devoted time, energy, and skill in painting the house of neighbor and Trinity member Bill Coombe.
