PASTOR’S PERSPECTIVE:

Service of Healing - Sunday, October 21st

at both worship services.

This will be a simple but important addition to our worship on the 21st. It follows

a long standing tradition in the Christian Community based on the Lord’s call to pray for the sick. We pray for those who are ill each week, during the prayers of the Church. We lift up those who are recovering or hospitalized or for whatever reason through the Prayer Chain (members of the congregation that include these folks every day in their prayers. Your staff closes each staff meeting re-membering and praying for people in need of God’s healing presence.

On the 21st we do two important things. First, as was just said, we pray for the

sick, recovering, hospitalized; those facing surgery or facing any difficult time in their lives. We will also pray for their caregivers, an often overlooked but very important part of the healing process. We will also pray for the doctors, nurses, staff, therapist, technicians and all people who work with those in need of heal-ing.

Second, we will follow the ancient practice of the church by laying on hands while we pray for each individual who wishes to come forward. When that time comes you may come forward or you may remain at you seat for quiet prayer.

The time that we spend in worship will be a special moment that calls our hearts and minds to focus on how and where the Lord’s healing presence is guiding us and lifting us up.

OCTOBER IS STEWARDSHIP MONTH

The Stewardship’s 10 Commandments will be shared within the newsletter in 2 parts during the month of October. We will look at the first 5 commandments for this portion and the October 23 newsletter will contain the remaining 5 com-mandments written by Pastor Peter Rudowski.

The Mission of Trinity Lutheran

Church is to:

Come and See! Go and Tell!

Matthew 28:5-8

(5) But the angel said to the women, "Do

not be afraid; I know that you are looking

for Jesus who was crucified. (6) He is

not here; for he has been raised, as he

said. Come, see the place where he lay.

(7) Then go quickly and tell his disciples,

'He has been raised from the dead, and

indeed he is going ahead of you to Gali-

lee; there you will see him.' This is my

message for you." (8) So they left the

tomb quickly with fear and great joy, and

ran to tell his disciples.

We come and see that the Lord is

risen from the grave for the for-

giveness of our sins.

We go and tell others about Jesus.

To direct our focus we use the image of

a Lighthouse.

Why a lighthouse?

“Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, "I am

the light of the world. Whoever follows

me will never walk in darkness but will

have the light of life."

John 8:12

“Let your light shine before others, so

that they may see your good works and

give glory to your Father in heaven.

Matthew 5:16

Our Open House was a HUGE success! We had close to 200 people visit our school to enjoy the kid’s work, see what has been going on, and share in some refreshments and fellowship. Thank you to Mitchell Osborne for setting up tables for the Book Fair, to Joyce Dresbach and Patty Dresbach for working the Book Fair, to Madeline Sanders and Dick Walters for serving refreshments and to Valeria Trapp for making and donating all of the delicious cookies for the event. A spe-cial thanks to the staff for all the extra work it takes to prepare for the evening. The hallways and classrooms looked great.

It is hard to believe we are at Pumpkin Show time already. We will be closed Wednesday through Friday of Pumpkin Show week. All of the Trinity Preschool kids will have artwork displayed at the hall on Watt St. so be sure to stop by and see it. We can still use volunteers for the Parking Lot on Friday and Saturday nights. Call me at 474-9870 if you can help. Enjoy the beautiful colors of fall and have a great Pumpkin Show week! Nancy Harrow, Director

STEWARDSHIP’S 10 COMMANDMENTS (First 5) Continued from page 1

1. STEWARDSHIP IS BIBLICALLY BASED Leviticus 27:30-32 admonishes God's people to tithe their wealth as thanks-

giving for what God has already given them. Leviticus is not alone when it comes to tithing. Nine other biblical books repeat Leviticus' admonishment and/or condemn those who fall short when it comes to tithing their wealth.

The Apostle Paul does not use the word "tithe" but talks about a cheerful contributor when it comes to stewardship. In 2 Corinthians 9, he lays out three rea-sons for financial stewardship: 1. The Corinthians should contribute because Paul has bragged about their generosity. 2. God loves and rewards a cheerful con-tributor. 3. Financial stewardship provides resources for ministry throughout the church.

2. STEWARDSHIP IS A RESPONSE TO GOD'S LOVE The theology of the Old and New Testaments is that all a disciple of God

thinks, says, and does should be done out of grateful thanksgiving for what God has already done for him or her. This theology sets the church apart from every other civic organization that asks for financial support.

There is no question that the church is in competition with very worthwhile civil organizations asking potential contributors for financial support. In order to compete with civic organizations, every congregation must answer the unspoken question, "Why should I contribute to the church and its ministries?" The answer is, "You contribute because God first gave to you!" No other organization can make this statement. Every stewardship campaign needs to include the strong message, "We contribute because God first gave to us" to set it apart from other civic organizations.

3. STEWARDSHIP HONORS THE SPIRITUAL GIFTS In Romans, the Apostle Paul lists seven spiritual gifts. (12:6-8). The sixth gift is

"..,the giver, in generosity..." (NRSV) A congregation offers its members the oppor-tunity to share their spiritual gifts. For example, those who have the gift of teaching are given the opportunity to teach adults and children. Those with the gift of mercy are given the opportunity to minister to those in need of spiritual and physical comfort. Financial stewardship, gives the opportunity for those with the gift of financial giving to do so with generosity.

4. STEWARDSHIP PROVIDES MINISTRY RESOURCES The word "stewardship" does not appear in the Bible but the word "steward"

does. A steward is one who manages another's property, i.e., Joseph manages the storing of grain so Egypt can survive seven years of famine. The church expanded the meaning of steward to include the management of one's life in accordance with God's will. Today, the church uses the word "stewardship" to connote the managing of one's life and financial resources in accordance to God's will.

It is important to note the difference between being a steward of life and stew-ardship as an annual steward-ship campaign. In a congregation, stewardship of life should be a year round emphasis. Stewardship as an annual campaign for fundrais-ing is a short term emphasis on the member's need to contribute and the congre-gations' need to receive financial support. Congrega-tions that have effective annual stewardship campaigns year after year recognize the need to use the best fundrais-ing practices possible. Using such principles does not diminish the Gospel in any way.

5. STEWARDSHIP CONNECTS GIVING WITH EXISTING AND/OR FUTURE MINISTRIES

At one time, members contributed financial resources if they believed an honest effort was being made to minister to people or achieve goals. In con-trast, today's members contribute because of the results being produced by ef-fective ministries. Members contribute to an outreach ministry that feeds and houses 500 families, trains a mom for a job, and makes sure children attend school. Members contribute to internal ministries that offer comfort to those who are grieving the loss of a loved one or need encouragement because of a trou-bled relationship. Therefore, an effective stewardship campaign highlights the difference a congregation's ministries make in the lives of people. Members do not contribute to budget goals and are not motivated by posters indicating how close pledges are to meeting the proposed budget.

HEALING SERVICE - SUNDAY, OCTOBER 21 - Please see front page.

SUNDAY NIGHT ALIVE - OCTOBER 21 Extreme Faith is for students in grades 6-8 and begins at 5:00pm on the nights sched-uled. Time is spent in fellowship as students get to know each other. It is supervised by adults. All adults have been through the Safe Sanctuary program at Trinity.

Catechism begins at 6:00pm and will is led by our Pastor John Michles. Our goal is for our students to under-stand the heart of Christian faith. Todd Ruff serves as our Catechism director this year. The huddle leaders are Keith Connell and Beth Miller.

GADAC is for students grades 9-12 and they meet at 7:30pm and are led by Tim Stevenson. We have been blessed to have Tim lead this group over the years and have watched students grow in spirit and faith. Truly, our youth group knows the meaning of serving in the name of the Lord.

REFORMATION SUNDAY, OCTOBER 28 - Please wear red in honor of the day. On this day we celebrate the heart of our faith: the gospel of Christ—the good news—that makes us free! Though we give thanks for the events of the sixteenth-century Refor-mation that brought renewal to the church of that time, we pray that the Holy Spirit would continue to unite the church in its proclamation and witness to the world. In the waters of baptism we are made one body; we pray for the day that all Christians will also be one at the Lord's table.

COOKOUT & HAYRIDE - OCTOBER 28 - EWING FARM 20739 Ringgold Southern Road, Circleville BRING: Covered Dish, Lawn Chairs PROVIDED: Hot dogs, marshmallows, beverages, tableware Come & enjoy fun, food, & fellowship!

ALL SAINT’S SUNDAY - NOVEMBER 4 On this designated day, Trinity will remember our saints who have gone before us since the last All Saint’s Day. Many of you have loved ones that have died who are not Trinity members. Please contact the church office and we will be pleased to list them as well. If you have a photo of your loved one that you prefer to be used by the church for the projection presentation please bring it into the office by October 28.

LET'S CELEBRATE!

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2013 under the theme, "Always being made new." What God is doing through us here at home and around the world is worth celebrating. As you embark in minis-try during this anniversary year, take a look back at the people and events that have shaped us as a church while looking to-ward the future together anew.

In 2 Corinthians 5:17 Paul writes, "So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new!"

We are a church that is deeply rooted – and always being made new. Our roots are in Scripture, tradi-tion and the Lutheran Confessions, as well as in the vibrant communities and rich histories of our con-gregations. These roots are an ongoing source of nourishment, enabling us to be a church that is re-silient, always reforming and guided by the Holy Spirit.
