Pray for Your Church by Michael J. Roth

Almighty God, grant to Your Church
Your Holy Spirit and the wisdom that
comes down from above, that Your
Word may not be bound but have
free course and be preached to the
joy and edifying of Christ's holy
people, so that in steadfast faith we
may serve You and, in the
confession of Your name, abide unto
the end; through Jesus Christ, Your
Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns
with You and the Holy Spirit, one
God, now and forever. Amen.(LSB,
p. 305)
I know that it probably does not
need to be said, but it is important
that we pray for our church. I am
also sure that most of you do just
that. St. Paul found it necessary to
encourage the Thessalonians to do
the same. He wrote, "Finally,
brothers, pray for us, that the word
of the Lord may speed ahead and be
honored (2 Thess. 3:1)." You will
notice that the above collect for the
church reflects these words of Paul.
The need to pray for the church, and
our own congregation, is just as
urgent today as ever. We are living
in an age where the Word of God
and the name of the Lord is not
universally honored. This is evident
as one views national statistics of
church membership and attendance
data. We see this also at Trinity.
Although we have many faithful
members who are in church every
Sunday, there are many who only
attend sporadically or occasionally.
Then there are those who do not
attend at all. In addition to those
who have their names on a church
membership list, there are those who do
not even hold church membership
anywhere. These are the new and
growing classification of "nones." Nones
are those who, when ask what their
religious affiliation is, answer "none."
What should we do about this current
cultural and local trend? We should pray!
We need to put all our concerns into the
hands of God. We need to pray daily that
God would bless His church with the
preaching of the Gospel. As "the word of
Lord speeds ahead," God's Spirit will use it
to work in the hearts and lives of people.
Those who are not Christians now will be
converted to the faith and those who are
believers will be moved to worship and
serve the Lord.
I don't think we should simply accept the
national trend of decreased church
attendance and participation in the Lord's
work. I would like to challenge everyone
of our members to pray daily for our
congregation that the word of the Lord be
proclaimed with boldness. Pray that this
word reaches all who hear and move
hearts and lives. Pray that God would use
His people to invite others to church that
our attendance and membership would
grow and become a vibrant force and
influence in our community for the sake of
the kingdom of God.
As we bring this desire before the Lord in
prayer, He has promised to hear and
answer according to His grace and mercy.
Set aside time every day to read the word
and pray that God would grow His church
among us.

PRAYERS ANSWERED
FOR LWML
In March we were notified that we were behind in
making the 2017-2019 National Mission Goal of
$2,075,000. Our LWML members responded
positively and the Goal ended with $2,172,373.76
being collected. Thus exceeding the goal
substantially. The overage will be applied to the
next LWML Mission Goal which will be voted on at
the June National Convention in Mobile Alabama.
These monies are collected through our MITES
turned in at our LWML meetings throughout the
world and door collections, etc. Thank you for your
support.

Password Pandemonium
Never before has so much information
been so accessible to so many people. In
many ways, the "Information Age" is a
wonderful time to be alive. However, as
is often the case, there is a dark side.
The same technology that makes it really
easy to search for all the knowledge of
the human race, also makes it possible
for others to get a hold of your personal
information.
When it comes to using computers and
the internet, we are challenged to create
a plethora of user names and passwords
to protect our information. But how do
you make up a password that will be
easy for you to remember but impossible
for anyone else to figure out? If
someone wanted to "crack" your
password using computer software, they
would probably check all of the common
passwords first. For the dedicated
"password cracker" there are actually
huge lists of common passwords
available online. So what makes for a
good password? Here are some basic
suggestions but in the end, it will be up
to you to come up with something that
works for you:
Avoid common names, dates, phone
numbers or things easily associated with
you.
Avoid common words or phrases, as they
would be the first thing checked by
password cracking software.
Use a combination of numbers and
letters. For example, substitute numbers
for letters and letters for numbers in a
word or phrase.
Make it something you can remember all
by yourself. Do not write it down
anywhere!
Don't use naturally occurring keyboard
sequences (like "qwerty" for example)
Try to make it at least 8-16 characters
long. Obviously the longer the better.
Plan on changing your password often.
Experts suggest changing your passwords
at least every 6 months.
Whether it is about protecting the money
in your bank account or just accessing
your email online, you will need to have
good usernames and passwords to
protect yourself. Choose wisely.

Education isn't just about the time spent in
school; it's about the preparation for
everything your child can become in the
future. At Trinity, we are eager to help your
son or daughter reach his or her greatest
potential. We work closely with parents to
connect each child to that future by setting
the right academic foundation and using
God's Word to build a personal relationship
with Jesus.

our Christ centered education, please share
the invitation to visit our campus, or contact

It is so exciting to see the construction
workers back on site. We are finishing up the
second half of Phase 1 of the renovation. This
will be the new infant room space. The
Adventurers and Explorers have moved into
their new space and are loving it! Come
check it out the next time you are here. We
love to show off the space. Mrs. Johnson and
Mrs. Boughner are still adjusting to the
space, but they and the kids are making
themselves at home.
Our school age care program is in full swing
now too. They have had special guests come
to teach them, they have gone on several
field trips and have a great fun summer
ahead of them. We have consistently had at
least 20 children in each class, that means 40
kids each day! Summer is fun at Trinity!!
We are also looking forward to the school
year. We are hiring afternoon staff in several
rooms. Do you know someone who likes kids
and is available from 12-6pm? They would
be great for Trinity. You can stop in the office
anytime to pick up an application.
Thank you all for your prayers and support.
We wouldn't be here with out you!!

Trinity Lutheran Ladies Aid
A Big Thank You from Trinity Lutheran Ladies Aid to our congregation
for your continued support! Along with our special projects throughout
the year, we also have ongoing Fundraisers.
RADA knives and utensils are available to order and/or select from a
limited selection the ladies have on hand. You can go online by just
typing in RADA knives and learn more about them. They are of excellent
quality and I heartily recommend them. Excellent for shower and
wedding presents and even graduation presents. If ordered, they come
within a week. Contact Gladys Pickering for a catalog or to look at what
we have on hand. This fund raiser plus the selling of greeting cards
between services help us finance many wants at Trinity. Either call
Gladys at 810-488-3444 or see her at church or make an appointment.
Thank you again, your help is greatly needed and appreciated.

WOMEN'S BOOK CLUB
The Lost Art of Mixing by Erica Bauermeister
Lillian and her restaurant have a way of drawing people together. There’s Al, the
accountant who finds meaning in numbers and ritual; Chloe, a budding chef who
hasn’t learned to trust after heartbreak; Finnegan, quiet and steady as a tree, who
can disappear into the background despite his massive height; Louise, Al’s wife,
whose anger simmers just below the boiling point; and Isabelle, whose memories
are slowly slipping from her grasp. And there’s Lillian herself, whose life has taken
a turn she didn’t expect. Their lives collide and mix with those around them,
sometimes joining in effortless connections, at other times sifting together and
separating again, creating a family that is chosen, not given. A beautifully imagined
novel about the ties that bind—and links that break—The Lost Art of Mixing is a
captivating meditation on the power of love, food, and companionship.

GRIEF
Grief from the loss of a loved one can
be very difficult. Our Stephen Ministry
team sends out Journeying Through
Grief books to members and/or
relatives who have lost a loved one.
Journeying through Grief is a set of
four short books, published by Stephen Ministries, and
sent to people at four crucial times during the first year
after the loss of a loved one.
Author Kenneth C. Haugk writes in a warm, caring style,
with short, easy-to-read chapters. He walks alongside
the reader through the grief journey, sharing helpful
insights about grief, biblical truths, and stories that
provide comfort and reassurance.
It's a way for Stephen Ministry to not only remember
them once, but remember them four times over the
course of a year.
Grief can last for a long time—and very often a grieving
person's needs for care continue long after the offers of
support have tapered off. The Journeying through Grief
books provide a simple, compassionate way to reach out
to someone again and again during that difficult first
year, letting the person know you still remember and
care.
In addition to the Journeying through Grief Books,
Stephen Ministers are available to meet one on one with
those going through the grief process. If you or
someone you know would like more information about
being connected with a Stephen Minister, please contact
Betty Perrone in the Church Office or speak to Pastor
Roth or one of our Stephen Leaders.

"THEN AND NOW (edited)
When the cornerstone of our present school, erected in 1912,
was opened, we found among other things, a well-preserved
copy of a newspaper, the St. Joseph Daily Press dated July
18th, 1912. The headlines were very revealing.
Our older people tell us so often today that the world is so
much worse than it was when they were young. It wouldn't
seem that way when you read these headlines. "two Farmers
Arrested on Charges of Shipping Impure Milk Into City;
Assailant of a Girl Sought By Irate Father Who Goes Gunning;
Nine Days For Theft; Loved Money More than Wife; Placed On
Probation; Petition To Send Jimmie Cooper Away." Each one of
those headlines has been copied exactly from the front page
of that edition. Read the stories behind those headlines and
you will see conditions 39 years earlier were practically the
same in this community as they are today.
The world does not change and will not change. It is
corrupt in its affections and lusts. Therefore, it is foolish to
lift up ourselves in one generation over another. However,
Christians in every generation are to be a salt and a light in
a world that is filled with crime and nastiness and all
manner of sins. Christians are in the world – but should
never be of the world."
Now, in 2019, we look back at those earlier times and
realize we have somewhat the same problems. With so
much news bombarding us from all over the world, we
really live in a different world. Its easy to become alarmists
and extremely pessimistic. It becomes even more important
for us to spread the Word of God, letting His full power
surge through our lives and through the lives of those with
whom we come in contact. "God is the answer to our
prayers" and "Pray without ceasing."

I can't begin to express my gratitude to
God and to all those whose lives have
touched me over the years. For every
person that has let me be a part of

thankful. Not only has it been a
blessing to be a part of your story, but
the blessing in return has been more
than tenfold.
I have been there for some of the
most tender moments of your lives and many of you have
reached out to me in my most tender and difficult times. Thank
you for trusting me with your physical, mental, relational,
emotional and spiritual needs. I will sincerely miss our times
together.
The Care Team at Trinity is truly awesome as well as the Stephen
Ministry Team. Reach out to them as needs arise. Remember to
listen to each other and to love one another as God has
instructed us.
I will remember each and every one of you as I go forward, and
you will continue to be in my prayers. The friendships made at
Trinity are a treasure in my heart. May our paths cross
frequently.

please call the church office.
Trinity Lutheran Church & School
The Bible over and over uses farm imagery to teach
believers how to think about their lives, how God
designed things to work, how to make big decisions.
This not only made sense to Scripture's original readers,
the majority of whom worked in agriculture-related
jobs, but it still resonates today because there's no
cheating and there are no shortcuts in farming.
If a farmer plants corn, corn there will be. He shouldn't
expect a wheat crop. If he's too lazy to get going in April
and doesn't get around to planting until July, there won't
be any crop at all. St. Paul invites you to ponder farming
as you think about your life priorities: "Whoever sows to
please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction;
whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will
reap eternal life" (Galatians 6:8).
Whom have you chosen to be your closest friends? I
hope you've chosen wisely—you will become like them.
On what do you spend your money? Are you serious
about saving, arranging for Christian education for your
children, and investing in the ministries of your church,
or do you love expensive vacations, gambling, and new
cars?
To help you in your "sowing" (i.e., decisions on how you
spend your time and money), imagine that your
heavenly Father's eyes are on your credit card,
checkbook, or smartphone as you do it.
Live to please the Lord.

How Do You Make Life's Big Decisions?
SAGES want YOU to come join us for the following:
MONDAY, JULY 15TH, from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM
at the MINISTRY CENTER ~ We will be hosting
PAULINE WENDZEL (our very own Trinity family
member) with an informative chat on her new role as
our State Representative. She will be sharing with us
about her typical day of being a State Representative,
sharing some political issues that she is working on,
and then share more during a brief 'question and
answer' period.
We will begin the meeting with a BREAKFAST AT 8:30
AM ~ ****PLEASE NOTE THIS DAY/TIME CHANGE****.
After our breakfast, we will sit back and enjoy Pauline
sharing information with us.
It definitely will be a "red/white/blue day" ~ so please
join us. We are accepting donations for breakfast food
items as follows ~ 1) juice (hopefully 3 different
people donating a container each),
2) rolls/muffins (hopefully 4 different people donating
a dozen each). A warm egg dish will be served as well
as fresh fruit and coffee.
A $5.00 fee is suggested per person to offset the costs
(remember if you bring a food item, you do not pay
the $5.00 fee)
Please join us for this event ~ ****REMEMBER,
DATE/TIME CHANGE**** RSVP to Betty at the church
office (983-5000) by THURSDAY, JULY 11TH, if
attending and/or bringing a food item.

Amish life/customs. Then we will be having a scrumptious
buffet style luncheon at the Blue Gate Restaurant. If time
permits, we will go to Davis Mercantile shops nearby which
hosts some unique and fun individual shops.
The bus will leave the FIRST CHURCH OF GOD parking lot,

sharing the bus with members from First Church of God;

Faith in Verse – From God Can Nothing Move Me
(LSB 713) by Bob Lawrence
From God can nothing move me;
He will not step aside
But gently will reprove me
And be my constant guide. (verse one A)
This hymn comes from the "trust" section of the Lutheran Service Book. After watching Jesus Christ
suffer and die in the season of Lent and then gathering together at Easter to celebrate his victory
over death, we settle into the rest of the church year to live a life of faith that reflects his love. To do
so, however, we must trust him to be with us even when we fail to live the way he has commanded.
So what does this hymn tell us about this trust relationship we have with God?
First of all we learn that God can be very stubborn. Once we become a member of his holy family
there is no way he will stop loving us no matter what unholy things we might do. He will not "step
aside" when we lose our temper with our spouse or cheat on our taxes or lie to our boss or anything
else we might do that does not reflect the love of God we have in Christ. Why doesn't he just throw
unfaithful people like us aside? Because he does not love us the way people do. He loves us as only
God can.
Does that mean we can simply disregard everything he has taught us? Hardly. He will speak to us
through his word, his spirit, and our consciences to let us know very clearly that we have sinned.
Instead of harshly punishing us to realize ours errors, however, he "gently" reproves us and guides us
back to where we belong with him.
Trusting that God will never stop calling us back time and time again when we error is the element of
our faith that protects us from despair, the beast that withers faith and drives us to find solace in
substances and activities that can be destructive for us in both this life and the life to come. How
much better it is to listen to his word and follow our "constant guide."
