Locality

Th is is th e approved m ap th at identifies areas of strateg ic cropping land (SCL) and is used to define th e strateg ic cropping area, one of th e four areas of reg ional interest under th e Regional Planning Interest Act 2014. Th is version h as rem oved SCL validation decisions and excluded areas th at m ay be above th e slope th resh olds determ ined using g eneralised slope data from th e Sh uttle Radar Topog raph y Mission (SRTM). Th is m ap is prepared using current data from th e Queensland Ag ricultural Land Audit and th e m ost recent Queensland Land Use Mapping Prog ram (QLUMP) data identified as production from ag riculture or plantations. All QLUMP identified areas wh ere no part of th at area is with in 5 k m of m apped Class A ag ricultural land were rem oved or wh ere h ig h quality soils m apping was available. Areas covered by categ ories A or B in th e current Reg ulated Veg etation Manag em ent m ap are rem oved. Already protected areas are rem oved. Th ese are National Park s, State Forests, Tim ber Reserves and Forest Reserves in th e DNRM Dig ital Cadastral Data Base (DCDB). Urban areas are rem oved. Th ese areas are: • with in th e urban footprints in th e Far North Queensland, South East Queensland, Mack ay Isaac and W h itsunday, and W ide Bay Burnett reg ional plans or • with in 20 m etres of and including g roups of 20 or m ore cadastral parcels with areas less th an one h ectare or • m apped as residential in th e QLUMP dataset.Major infrastructure, including existing open cut m ines, power stations, airports and dam s h ave been rem oved from areas th at intersect with th e SCL m ap. Broad clim atic zones were used with th e western boundary developed from crop production and clim atic m odelling . Som e areas were rem oved by visual interpretation torem ove active m ine sites, roads etc. Rem aining areasless th an 2 h ectares in coastal areas and 10 h ectares in western areas were rem oved.
