CHIEF SCOUT’S AWARD

The Chief Scout’s Award can be earned

by any Scout, who in the judgment of

their fellow Scouts and Scouters,

exemplifies the principles of Scouting

through their leadership, voluntary

service to the community and outdoor

skills.

The Award was inaugurated in September, 1973 by his Excellency,

Governor-General Roland Michener C.C.C.M.M., C.D., in his capacity of

Chief Scout of Canada. He had been greatly impressed by the many projects

through which Scouts rendered service to others and helped to improve the

natural environment, and he felt that such acts should be specially

recognized.

The Award is in the form of a cloth badge and a certificate. The badge is

awarded immediately upon completion of the requirements. The certificate

is presented at a public ceremony.

he remained at his post awaiting orders until the end

of the action, with the dead and dying around him.

Transferred to Grimsby Hospital, he died a few days

later. He was posthumously awarded the Victoria

Cross. Jack had been a Scout in London, England. To

perpetuate his memory the Jack Cornwell Decoration

(formerly the “Cornwell Scout” Badge) was instituted.
