DONT TAKEACHANCECALL911 TO GETHELPI have never written to the edi-

tor before. Today, I have a reason. The other day there was, as policewould call it, a domestic disturb-

ance in my neighbourhood. It was between a male and

female. It was outside and turn-ing really scary. I finally called911. The 911 operator was notonly nice, but she said, Is thatthe disturbance on such and suchstreet?Yes, I said, and the operator

said, We have had multiple callsand are sending outmultiple unitsto help them.I noticed after Id hung up that

people from the area were gath-ering to make sure no one wasgetting hurt.I was so proud of where I lived

and the police and how fast they

got here and cleared things up.On behalf of all men, womenand children, if you think youhear something that sounds likesomeone either is or will be hurt, call 911 and let the professionalscome and help.Name withheld by request(domestic abuse survivor)
