EDITOR´S
Wow! It has been a faaabulous first 3 months for Tres Chic in the super South West, and to end the year on a high we have decided to make our last magazine of 2011 a bumper issue. It´s bursting to the rafters with our incredible Mods and Rockers shoot down at the See No Evil site, with looks from The Kooples, Cabot Circus and House of Fraser. We’ve got a super exciting Menswear shoot, with the juicy Judas Sinned and GarmentQuarter, and with them having just won the Drapers award 2011 we thought we would use the gorgeous Mikey as our male model. You won’t be disappointed with the results!
Things are shaping up nicely for our ‘Black & Diamond’ launch party on Saturday December 10th (originally the 9th, please save this new date!) at the magnificent Clifton Club. There´s all sorts of goodies provided by Cabot Circus, The Sanctuary and House of Fraser. Not least forgetting the launch of ‘I AM TRES CHIC’ - buy your tickets directly through the website, so as not to miss out.
Team TC had an AMAZING meeting with the gorgeous Olly Murs at the Christmas Lights switch on - The Mall Cribbs Causeway, and were treated to an exclusive interview backstage during his performance. Read it inside our lovely pages and check out the video on www.treschicmagazine.com and just when we thought that day couldn’t get any better, we headed straight down the motorway to attend Ruth Lorenzo’s Birthday Party in London, what a night! Ruth Lorenzo is performing for us at our launch party on the10th with help from the events company that do the parties for OK Magazine, we think it will be a smash!
Come and help us toast Christmas, enjoy the decadence of the Clifton Club and enjoy all that makes TC so special (for more information head to treschicmagazine.com/launchparty). Thank you for supporting us so far you lovely S/W people & Bring on 2012!!
From all of us at TC.. enjoy, and we’ll see you next month!

DAS - FROM THE MIDDLE EAST TO HARRODS
Do you believe elegance and inter-national styling go hand in hand, have you heard of DAS? Well, if not TC are here to serve you in all things ‘breaking-fashion.’ Launched in 2008 by Emirati sisters Reem and Hind Beljafla, DAS first made waves with its cutting edge style by trans-forming the Abaya, a traditional gar-ment worn by Muslim women, into modern signature apparel. As worn by Olivia Palermo and Amber le Bon, seen in Tatler, Harper’s Bazaar and vogue and now stocked in Harrods, DAS has risen from its Emirati roots to become a truly international brand. Together Reem and Hind are creating a strong and luxurious brand, making DAS a label synonymous with classic modern femininity. www.dascollection.com

The Kooples sound like an English rock band, what do you think itmight sound like?Their sound would be similar to that of The Kills: art rock with passionate lyr-ics and a unique sound. The Kooples actually owns their own record label, which is currently in the process of sift-ing through thousands of un-discovered bands to represent, so we may well be about to find out!
What is special about the brand? The premise of the designs: English tai-loring meets French rock’n’roll. The be-spoke finishes, such as the leather trims and skull design buttons, are beautiful and every piece is incredibly versatile. What is your favourite item in store? The women’s tuxedo jacket. Every girl should own one - they look just as good over jeans and a tee as with a dress and heels. Perfect for the party season, ef-fortless style morning, noon and night. What are your stand-out trends for a/w 11?Androgyny: I just don’t do dresses! The masculine vibe of a crombie coat, slim tailored trousers, a loafer or chel-sea boot: it’s just fuss free and easy to wear. The Kooples has this look down to a tee.
MEET THE TEAM@ The Kooples
In 2007 a Fashion Brand was born that aimed to claim a young, chic, rock lifestyle, predomi-nently aimed at affluent couples, The Kooples was born. Tres Chic celebrates the opening of its Bristol store with our ‘Meet The Team!’ We hope you get to meet them with a purchase or two this Christmas!

very unusual and the block colouring of the dark navy satin against the emerald silk really draws the eyes attention.Tell us something most people don’t know about you?My family originates from Lithuania and my surname actually translates to ‘King’ in English. Also I have bizarre sleeping pat-terns, I often end up diagonal across the bed invading my boyfriends space which he frequently harrasses me about. If you could have one The Kooples item under your tree this Christmas, what would it be (Partners / Couples take note!) It would probably have to be the Men’s beige parka! Or I would like to unwrap one of the silk crepe blouses as their so versa-tile - they can be formal or casual - and are completely timeless. What are your stand-out trends for A/W 11?Personally I found that jewel colours are a recurring theme within alot of designers collections, which is great for the run up to christmas as it gives that sense of opu-lance during party season. In The Kooples a lot of the tones emulate this from our best seller burgundy jeans to emerald blouses.
What is special about the brand? The brand is special because it com-bines the French and English ashethic so well, creating deceptively simple, elegant and classic pieces which are tailored from the best materials. This means they can literally fit in with any-one’s style and transform a look. What is your favourite item in store? I have fallen head over heels with so many of the items its hard to choose. I would say that my ultimate favourites are the the burgundy skirt and blazer (as worn in the photo) and the navy and emerald shift dress. The collar and neckline are seperated which make it
What did you do before The Kooples? Before the Kooples I had worked as a freelance illustrator for quite a few years. On top of this I have also worked for a large fashion retail chain and been teaching a variety of art subjects to learners in post 16 education. What is special about the brand? The Kooples really stands out from oth-er brands. It´s bringing chic back to the streets and getting lots of attention from both men and women due to its sharp allure and franco-british elegance made for urban living. The brand has managed to accomplish a perfect balance of both day and night wear that will not go out of fashion and should be seen as an investment to com-pliment any wardrobe. What are your stand-out trends for A/W 11?I personally think the Mod look is on it’s way back and will be stronger then ever. Especially for menswear it’s all about British, tailored and tight.Tell us something most people don’t know about you?I did a bit of child modelling back in the day. A particularly strong look was the Noah’s Ark jumper ‘knit-it-yourself’
lookbook. If I couldstill wear the knitted penguin jumper today I would. The Kooples pay particular attention to fabric selec-tion, what are your most loved fabrics in the A/W col-lection? My personal favourites are the addition of leather on many of the mens garments. From just this one added feature, whether it be a collar or an elbow patch it has the ability to change the whole appearence of an item. What is on your ipod?Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, BeachHouse, Dirty Gold, The XX, R Kelly (Bump and Grind - Classic), Some oldskool Notorious B.I.G and a learn to speak Spanish CD.

Treschicmagazine.com I DECEMBER 2011 21
Born out of a time where Britain was becoming more affluent, the remnants of post-war thinking were all but fading and creativity surged. This paved the way for free thinking and serious individuality. We can thank the swinging 60’s for many things, and the Mods and Rockers modernist movement is one of them. Two highly identifiable tribes, both fiercely fashion-able. Young and adventurous, and with mutual disdain for each other, the Mods and Rockers swept the nation shocking polite society with their un-couth attitudes and testosterone fuelled adventures.Throughout the seaside towns of Margate, Brighton, Bournemouth, Clacton, Southend and Hastings the trouble arose over the Easter weekend of 1964 and spread fiercely with riots by pale young men with short cropped hair, suede shoes and Italian fashions. Fighting grubby looking greasy fellows in leather, skinny jeans and skin heads. Moral panic ensued and with that brought great un-rest for the non-subscribing tribe’s men and women of the towns most affected. Fuelled by the media for months, the tabloids depicted a dissolute, drug-taking mindless youth, hell bent on shedding the blood of their opposites. Some reports suggest that this was far from the propaganda that cir-cled and that lads were paid to provide these iconic images of deck-chair smashing hell-raisers. Perfect
pasturage for the politicians and pop culture legends, and what are now to be considered classic images of 60’s Britain. For those that were there the reports are somewhat different. Yes there was fighting, and yes it was nasty, and all in the name of territory and difference, but of course there was in-fighting between the Mods & Rockers too, it wasn’t sim-ply as clean cut as reported by the press. So, talking of clean cuts lets look at the Mods; their style was in keeping with the music they followed, they listened to Tamla Motown, The Small Faces and The Who, they wore fishtail parkas to keep their finery protected, and beneath them a plethora of stylishly detailed clothing bordering on obsession, of-ten with tailor made suits, Fred Perrys and Sta-prest trousers, Suede shoes and a likening to being perfectly groomed. They rode Lambretta and Italian scoot-ers with a multitude of extra mirrors and customised wheels. The Mods were called ‘Faces’ and slightly lesser down the chains were called ‘numbers’ or ‘tickets.’The Rockers frequented the towns of the outer ring road of London, they wore black jeans, leather jackets and boots, with a likening to grease in their hair as a throw back from the 50’s, their look was deliberately scruffy as their cash was preferably spent on their ‘café-racer’ motor cycles, they were known as ‘greasers’ or ‘ton-up-boys’ as their bikes could do more than 100..(a ton!) and they of course had love of early rock music, anything to upset Mum or the neighbours. They were outcasts, and they liked it that way.Contrary though to the negative side of this era the Mods and Rockers pro-vided the fashion scene fantastic fod-der for iconic British inspiration. Their strength of personality individualism and fierce respect for their own, lends itself brilliantly to one of our most
Progressive, fashion-forward and hysteria-inducing the clash of the Mods & Rockers serves a rich part of iconic English history, and the new wave of millenium Mods and Rockers serves a rich part of tres chic history in the making.

TRÈS CHIC Shops
A RAGS TALEThere was a time in England when the trading of cloth was slightly less glamorous then it is today, produced in weavers cottages and transported on horses or in Roman times, when silk, was reserved only for the regal & imported by risk of death along the Silk Road from China. The Rag Trade also stirs up images of the iconic British sit-com in the 60’s and 70’s which centred around Fenner Fashions in London a small clothing shop ran by the militant shop steward Paddy Fleming. That name for any Bristol or Bath dwelling fashionista how-ever, is a name which conjures up the image of a chocolate box of a shop which offers a fun, dressing up experience with pre-loved brands that you can not only buy, but also trade.A unique and individual shop which is just at the top of Christ-mas steps in Bristol, almost opposite the Children’s hospital, the shop’s owner Alison is excited to tell Tres Chic readers about her ever growing brand supply. “There is not a day that goes by that I do not have bags of items coming through the door, from some of the best dressed Women in Bristol, I have such fun going through the items and selling them on behalf of my clients, I just need to remember that they are for my clients, as my wardrobe is full to bursting!” With brands such as; Jigsaw, Whistles, Reiss, Karen Millen, LK Bennett, Die-sel, Hollister, Jack Wills, Jo Brand, Hoss, By Malene Birger, Odd Molly, Sonia by Sonia Rykiel, Paul Smith, Sarah Pacini, Nicole Farhi, vivienne Westwood, See by Chloe, Mulberry, Burberry, Prada, Gucci, and Chanel … It is no wonder Alison has a need for a wardrobe extension! Thankfully though Alison does have incredible self restraint, which serves as a blessing to us South-West lovelies! Rag Trade operate on a fair trade basis so, if you have unwanted treasures in your own wardrobe bring 10 items to Alison and she will price them accordingly giving you a nice return. The atmosphere in Rag Trade is one of a manned dressing up box where you can pick and play at your leisure, the vibe is a stress free, fun, and ever changing with its colorful rails of pre-loved stock. Alison tells us “My customers never know quite what they are going to find, and that is part of the fun, it is a re-ally great way of recycling clothes particularly at the moment when everyone is watching their pennies and pounds.” If the clothes are not sold after this stage they are kindly donated to Charities such as Marie Curie and Oxfam. Not only can you find a delightful piece of vintage Lacroix to a much loved Mulberry classic for a snip, but also if the shopping mood takes you a little earlier than pay-day, there is a final week rail that is changed weekly so you can get some amazing pieces for £10/£5! Tres Bon! If you are looking for a refreshing shopping experience, wel-coming and fun you would be wise to hunt out Rag Trade Bristol, and once your in there … Carry on hunting! TC say ‘Re-love some Pre-loved!’
Rag Trade on Colston St is like an over-sized dressing up box with ever-changing colourful rails, and a nod to eco-friendly consciousness!

Alice your pieces are excep-tionally unique, in that they follow the contours of the body fluidly, what led you to develop this design path?
I was inspired by the work of the Yao Mien hill tribe in Northern Thailand, and tribal body adornment. I wanted to explore the boundaries between jewellery and clothing, which is why it is important that they follow the contours of the body.Something that also grabs me about your inspiring design story is that you spent time with the Yao Mien hill tribe in North-ern Thailand, and that this inspired your designs greatly, please tell us about that? The Yao Mien hill tribe heavily adorn their clothes in small pieces of silver. This rep-resents the family’s wealth. I liked the way the silver weighted the clothes around the body, so I wanted to find a repetitive ele-ment to use in a similar way that was not as expensive as solid blocks of silver. I also wanted to create a more contemporary look, which led me to experimenting with nuts and washers. We love that you use everyday objects with functionality, how much pleasure does it give you to see such utilitarian objects turn into objet d’art? The nature of these utilitarian objects means they have very angular features. This gives a very structured look, the facets reflect the light, and when gold and silver plated they are really transformed into something sparkly and precious looking, ironically creating a luxurious, glamorous look, which is a complete contrast to the items original purpose. You have quite a press and celebrity fol-lowing now. Are you surprised by this?
I’m so pleased and very happy that the collection has been so well received by the press. You have developed names for all your designs; ‘Ruby, ‘Carla’...etc, how do you come up with the names for your collections, is it all to do with the unique connection or personality with your individual pieces? Each name has to feel right for the piece, and reflects the indi-viduality of each design...some are influenced by friends, some by people I have met, others just seem to have a connection with a certain name for me – it really depends on how the design has evolved.Do you find it challenging designing popular pieces that appeal to many, when it is surely a very personal task?I don’t really think about that when designing a piece, it’s more about creating something I want to make work as a variable item - I think that the collection appeals to many people because of the

Alice Menter is a style sensation from the humble streets of Bristol town, her pieces have been featured in the fashion pages of Grazia and drapers. versatility of the pieces. They often hold quite contrasting qualities, such as bold yet intricate, utilitarian yet glamorous. I like the contrast of the hard shiny metal with the softness, flexibility and depth the suede provides. You personally handle all bespoke designs, is this an exciting task, especially incorporating the variety within the collection, from jumper dresses to collars to earrings?Yes - I enjoy working with individual clients to create unusual, one off pieces - I enjoy the personal relation-ship I have with my clients, and hope to develop this line of the range further - sometimes it can be a challenge encouraging them to be more adventurous, but it is also incredibly rewarding once the piece is finished.Your jewellery is very much meant to be worn, and has been described as ‘coming alive on the body’. From that perspective do you think that without having a flagship store people struggle to comprehend the truly extraordinary nature of your work? Not necessarily - it wasn’t an essential part of the be-ginning of my collection to have a store straight away - and focusing on our stockists and also the online store allows the collection to be accessible to a wide selec-tion of people. It also enables me to concentrate on other projects, rather than just a shop.Have you always been interested in jewellery making from a young age? Your degree in contemporary jew-ellery design obviously shows your passion, but is that where it all started? I have always been really interested in all types of de-sign from a young age, as well as fashion. I originally wanted to do interior design, and discovered the degree course in contemporary jewellery when I went to visit Middlesex University. We are proud to have you as a resident Bristolian, have
we kept you in our fabulous city, or have we lost to Milan?Hmmm tempting - I have spent a lot of time between Bristol and London, and am hoping to develop more of a presence in Europe from next year – but Bristol is a great City, and a lovely place to bring up my son, who goes to our local school at the end of our road, and my workshop is a five minute walk from home - so there’s no stress getting to school or work in the morning! So, you are stuck with me for now!

Tell me a little bit about yourselfI am an 18 year old girl, currently living just outside of London writing my own style blog, What Olivia Did. Afashion blog scattered with beauty, music, cooking and current trends.Your inspiration.I gather inspiration from everywhere! In terms of blogging, I think other bloggers are a huge source of inspiration, as there’s always something being constantly updated and you are able to feel continually in the loop. However, in terms of fashion inspiration comes from street style, music and even my family and friends.Describe your look?I’d probably describe my look along the lines of ‘ladylike tomboy’ as most of my outfits are built upon a well fitting t-shirt (probably striped) and pair of good fitting jeans or shorts! Dennis the mennis chic if you like! What are your key items this season? My key items this season would probably be a beautiful yet practical coat- something along the lines of a fur hooded parka and a chunky knit teamed with a beautiful blouse poking out underneath. Your favourite Saturday night lookJust something I feel comfortable in! Think if you’re feeling something you feel great in you’re far more likely to have a good time. You can’t go wrong with a dress and some platform heels though!

Describe your look?Structured elegance with a touch of toughness. What are your key items this season?A great pair of black leather leggings, classic long blazer, and a great sheath dress that has an impeccable fit on the body. What’s your make up secret essentials?I love turmeric! It’s my little secret regiment :-). I make it into a paste with milk or yogurt and put on my face as a mask before I go to bed and wash it off in the morning. It helps with brightening up the skin, healing and pigmentation. Why did you start your blog?I started my blog because my husband advises me to start one to share my fashion tips with others. I started reading others’ blogs and I feel that though it was inspiring, it lacks recommendation of why they wore what they wore. Top 5 songs?Comme ToiGrenade by Bruno MarsBorn This Way by Lady GagaSomeone Like You by AdeleBut when I am at home working, I listen to lots of in-strumental music like Mozart, tango and jazz because it puts me into a totally different stage of mind to be creative.Who is your favourite designer?Azzedine Alaia is my all time favorite designer. His clothes are very sculptural and understated and his designs are all about emphasizing a woman’s figure.

THE STYLE ICONS
Impeccable style and with a beauty secret to rival any high end brand, do we all take pictures like this, if only! And do we all have a husband that recommends we get in to fashion blogging?
From around the globe the fashion bloggers are bringing us current, fresh and seriously inspiring looks, from their own high st to boulevard. Style Icons of our times are sometimes taken more seriously when they haven’t been styled by a third party or brand within an inch of their lives! TC brings you our favorites this month, and here’s why..
50 Treschicmagazine.com I DECEMBER 2011
Not twins, not too obsessive about fashion, but happily bordering on it, these lovely sisters and happy to share their passion for fashion in a way that makes us all want a sister like this
Treschicmagazine.com I DECEMBER 2011 51
Your inspiration? For me inspiration is everywhere. Ideas for the most beautiful and craziest outfits can be found in places where I’d least expect them. Street style blogs are also a huge source of fashion insporation! I religiously visit stock-holm streetstyle and jak&jil for some Tommy Ton eye candy. What are your key items this season?- An oversized parka (still can’t get over the Altuzarra one). It’s a huge trend this season plus can actually prove to be very useful for the cold winter days.- A pair of black loafers-got mine from COS last month and have been wearing them non stop ever since.- Anything metallic and glossy, I’m about to invest in a pair of shimmering Balmain skin-ny pants :)Why did you start your blog?My sister (Nef) and I started being slightly too obsessed with reading fashion blogs, and at some point about a year ago we just won-dered why didn’t we have our own. We both have a fashion background (I’m studying fashion business and she’s a freelance stylist), thus with all our friends’ blessings we did it. The concept’s a combination of inspirational moodboard and style diary. We wanted to share our passion for this industry and have the chance to communicate with other inspir-ing people around the globe.Who is your favorite designer?Right now I’m totally obsessing over Olivier Theyskens for his signature effortlessly cool designs and fashion genius Prabal Gurung (I mean his SS12 collection is to die for). I’m also a huge fan of the Olsen’s line The Row, I think it is a brilliant interpretation of their own personal style, which I highly admire. Other loves include Balmain, Isabel Marant and Proenza Schouler-the PS1 is still on the top of my wishlist.
Charlotte Martin is a gap-toothed university student from Newcastle who experiments with her own hair colour and routinely shops in Primark or H&M. Charlotte’s blog, which started off as a personal style diary, is an eclectic mix of her own mac photos and her key photos from catwalks and shops.
Describe your look?I’d say I’m most attracted to classic British styles with modern twists. I’m proud of the haphazard, rebellious essence of British style and at the moment I keep referencing old photographs of teddy boys but my influ-ence changes over time. What’s your make up secret essentials?I wear liquid eyeliner every day and YSL’s ‘The Black Eyeliner’ keeps put from morning to night. Who is your favourite designer? It’s hard to choose a favourite specific designer but Christopher Kane, Erdem, Christopher Bailey at Burberry and Raf Simons at Jill Sander are always consistently excellent. What are your key items this season?I love that luxurious berry shade that’s filtered down onto the high street but I’ll be looking out for items drawing on the influence of Dolce and Gabbana 2011 so that’s lots of oversized tailoring, coloured brogues, faux fur and glitter galore.

WE ARE IN LOvE WITH YOUR BAGS AND I UNDER-STAND THEY ARE MADE FROM EXOTIC SKINS, FROM ADRIATIC SNAKE TO PYTHON, FROM LIZARD TO STINGRAY. HOW DOES ONE GO ABOUT SOURCING SUCH MATERIALS?I’m dedicated to being ethically responsible. All of my luxury skins are legally sourced in accordance to the CITES (The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) international standards. Some of my skins are sourced from farms and my python skin is actually part of a community scheme. In Indonesia, the python is bred to protect crops from rats but the people are posed with a prob-lem when the snakes get too big! They are then culled safely and the skins used for products. The meat goes to feed poor people in the local community so that nothing is wasted.
THERE IS QUITE A UNIQUE STORY THAT SURROUNDS HOW YOU GOT INTO IN TO THE WORLD OF HAND-BAG DESIGN USING SKINS, TELL US ABOUT IT? When I was on a trip to Bali, Indonesia, I got a bag made to my own design at an independent store. I loved my design but thought nothing of it until later that year I was on holiday in
San Francisco. Passers-by stopped me in the street to ask me where I bought my bag. One lady even asked me if she could buy it from me there and then! I knew I had hit on to some-thing amazing and Maisha was born.
TELL US ABOUT BALI, IT IS A PLACE ON OUR EXOTIC TRIP HIT-LIST! HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE IT? Bali by the locals is known as the island of the gods and really does give you a feeling of tradition, luxury and uniqueness celebrated when you are there. There is something for every-one whether your Stella getting her groove back or someone who just needs a new perspective, Bali is a place nourishing for the soul.CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT YOUR DESIRE TO CALL THE BAGS MAISHA (LIFE IN SWAHILI)?As you know, Maisha means life in Swahili. I chose it as I was inspired by how everyone tends to carry their life around in their handbags! I wanted to create a product that was worthy enough to carry something as precious as our lives around, and so exotic Maisha was born.
SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THIS HUMBLE JOURNEY, WHERE IS MAISHA NOW?Maisha is at its most exciting time yet! Maisha handbags are distributed worldwide on the website and in stores in Turkey, Namibia, South Africa, the UK and across the USA. We’re shooting our new 2012 campaign right now in South Africa and we’re looking forward to the future. YOUR SUCCESS HAS BEEN INCREDIBLE, AND YOU HAvE DEBUTED AT LONDON FASHION WEEK; DO YOU HAvE TO PINCH YOURSELF FOR THE BLESSING THAT THAT INITIAL TRIP TO BALI GAvE YOU IN THIS BRAND?Every day is a blessing but it’s really the fans and loyal sup-porters of Maisha that make it worth whileWHERE DOES MAISHA GO FROM HERE? Onwards and upwards! I’ve got loads of exciting ideas in mind including a bespoke range for individuals to design their

OLLY MURSQ&A with Très Chic
Hi Olly, it’s great to meet you... Let us introduce Tres Chic, the south west’s finest fashion and lifestyle publication.OLLY: Great name! I love it! How is my fashion tonight?JB: it’s sharp, very savvy and very on-trend, your rocking modern heritage tonight Olly.OLLY: very on-trend! I like it, thank you!JB: So, Olly, we’ve never met before, so I don’t want to be too personal..... What colour boxers are you wearing? ;)OLLY: I’m wearing sky blue ones today (he checks!) yep! Sky blue! ... What colour are you wearing?JB: (Tres Chic chooses to ignore this question!) So, Olly, your an Essex boy, my Dad is from Romford, what is it about you Essex boys that make you so special?OLLY: Well, I think we are just honest guys, I think what you see is what you get with us, some of us are a bit arrogant, the only way is Essex has showcased that side of it, but I am a down to earth Essex boy I love spending time with my family. I’m no different to most young lads out there.JB: As a child were you as cheeky as we have grown to love you now?OLLY: Yes! But, as a child I was really the shy one, my brother had learning difficulties, so he was a little bit ‘out there’ where as I was very shy, and very quiet, and if my mum used to tell me off, I was like “ Ok, yes mum, alright!” but, then as I grew older, and moved through school and started to meet girls, I became a bit of a charmer, and became a bit more of a ‘cheeky so and so!’ I was never in trouble with the law, or anything, I’m very straight and narrow.JB: So, we’re a fashion mag, you are reported to cite fashion as a ‘guilty pleasure’ of yours, we’re doing a major menswear feature for the end of the year, what tips would you give our male readers on what to buy this season?OLLY: This season I have got in to tweed quite a bit, I like good solid brogues, and I’m wearing my DM’s at the moment, Doctor Martins have just brought out a new range, which I’m really in to. I’m rocking quite dark colours this season, I’m always in to a shirt with a bit of colour in, and a nice tweed jacket, that sort of country vibe which I’m quite a big fan of at the moment.JB: Where’s the jacket your wearing today from?OLLY: It’s a Harris Tweed, but it’s from Topman. Topman have got a great selection of stuff coming out right now, and always reasonably priced, so I always recommend TM.JB: Where do you buy your shoes?
OLLY: Brogues and shoes, I probably go to Churches, Russell and Bromley, or Grensons.Grensons do top brogues!JB: Big Designers for you at the moment?OLLY: Cor, umm, I like YMC, I like Folk, I really really like Margella but that’s a really quite expensive label, but, I always think thier clothes are quite quirky and different. I like ACNE too and The Kooples.JB: We’ve just done a great shoot with The Kooples this issue, we love them, really slick, progressive stuff! So, Olly, how do you like to see a woman dressed?OLLY: I’ve always liked Fred Perry for women, I don’t know what it is! I think they do a great selection for women, really cool, with a vintage feel to it. I like my woman to be a bit edgy, a bit Mod, but creative with it. That’s kind of what I go for, but my taste in women changes quite often. I’m just trying to find the
right one you see!JB: I think your probably going to effect quite a lot of women’s style this season after that comment Olly!OLLY: Do you think? I like that kind of Mod look, I think a lot of women kind of dress like that any-way. I’m always attracted to girls that are a little bit different. (Tres Chic looks inquisitively for more detail)... Not too different, like with half their head shaved off, but, just really cool style, I like a girl that is definitely on-trend.JB: Your new single ‘Dance With Me Tonight’ is out on the 20th No-
vember, what was your inspiration for that, was it a particular girl?OLLY: I was literally in a writing session talking about seeing a girl in a club, and wanting to dance with her, and thinking “I just want you to dance with me tonight” it was kind of like what your thinking in your head. It’s quite an old school thing and I don’t think we do it enough any more, right now if you want to find out what her name is you go on Facebook or Twitter but back in the day if you were in a club, it’s reliant upon body language more than even talking, a really good song comes on and your like “what’s up darlin, you alright, wanna dance?”JB: So, your an old romantic really Olly?OLLY: Yes, exactly!JB: Last question Olly, were launching Tres Chic Magazine at The Clifton Club on 10th December in Bristol with Ruth Lorenzo of XFactor. Where do we send your invitation?OLLY: Well why don’t you email my management company, and just in case.... My number is ... XXXXXXXXXXX!!

Nothing beats the smoky eye for a night out. Never think you have to stick to black or grey, the smoky
eye can be created with any colour. Here we have gone for blues with plenty of glitter for the party sea-son!! A great tip for doing smoky make up is to leave your founda-
tion till last. There is nothing more annoying than creating smooth flawless skin to then have dark
shadow drop all over your cheeks and under eye giving you a black eye effect! Also if you are a little nervous, build up slowly. Its easy
to add colour than it is to take it off. Using a good primer is a good idea as will help your make up stay on
and stop the annoying crease.Eyeshadow; MAc, deeptruth and contrast with carbon eyeshdows.

Warm burgundies, deep plums and dark browns are the seasons hottest lip shades. If are not lucky enough to be blessed with the Angelina pout it doesn’t mean you cant wear these colours too. If your lips are thinner simply stay away from Matt colours and go for some-thing with more of a sheen, and don’t be tempted to outline your lips with a dark liner, go for a neutral shade and fill with your chosen colour. Another good tip is to add a dab of highlighter in the centre of your lips and also just a touch on your cupids bow to create a fuller look. For a beautiful party effect adding a glitter gloss to the centre of your lips will make them pop!If you are going for prominent lips you need to make sure your skin is looking flawless so all the attention can be on your pout! So use a good foundation and concealer. Lips; MAC, mystic/glitter. Founda-tion; MAC, pro-longwear

From smoky blacks to fine structured lines, there is more than one way to wear your eyeliner this season. Here we have gone for a really fun party look using coloured gems that are really easy to use and look stunning, however if you want more of an everyday look the cat flick never seems to be far away. A great twist on the flick is to turn it upside down. Leave the top bare while drawing and extended flick from your bottom lash line. You don’t have to stick to black, a coloured line can look fab and update any look - great for a party look.Foundation; MAc, pro-longwear. Gem; Stargazer.com. Lips; vagas volt

1 You’ve had an incredible journey over the last 20 years, what has been the most special moment of your life so far?By far the three most special moments in my life were the births of my three sons – Dylan in 1990 (he’s the baby in the photo’s at the brand’s Bergdorf Goodman launch in 1991), Dakota in 1992 and Duke in 1998. Along with my husband, they are the greatest joys of my life. The launch of Bobbi Brown Essentials at Bergdorf Goodman in 1991 was iconic for me and I remember it like it was yes-terday. I sometimes still can’t believe how far the brand has come since that day.2 Who gave you your big break?Photographer Bruce Webber gave me one of my first big breaks on a photo shoot when I was younger – I was the makeup assistant, and when the lead artist didn’t show up, he had me step in. Since then he’s been a mentor and a friend, and I was so humbled in 2008 when he presented me with a Fashion Group International Award. It was such a fun and surreal night.4 You were once given the opportunity to do the make-up for the Rolling Stones? Getting to do the Rolling Stones’ make-up was huge. It was early in my career and I admit I was a little star struck. Not to mention that when I arrived on the set they were all changing.5 What celebrities do you admire?I’ve worked with lots of celebrities but a few really stand out: Brooke Shields, Susan Sarandon and Meryl Streep. They’re inspiring because they radiate natural confidence and effortless glam-our, which is what my definition of real beauty is all about.6 And, who is your biggest icon?
Ever since I saw Ali McGraw in Love Story as a teenager, she’s been my beauty icon. On my 50th birthday, I got a surprise phone call from her telling me that she was a huge fan and had been wearing my makeup for years. It was an amazing moment.7 We love the Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner, who doesn’t? How did you create this?A mistake I made in 2001 led to one of the brand’s biggest suc-cesses. I forgot to bring eyeliner to a shoot, so I used mascara to create the same effect, and the concept for Long-Wear Gel Eye-liner was born. It was an instant success and received Allure’s Best of Beauty Award and In Styles’s Best Beauty Buy Award. I often thank myself for forgetting my eyeliner that day.8 What is your best fashion moment?Working at New York Fashion Week over the years has provided a series of great moments. I love the creative process of working with designers and helping to translate their vision into a beauti-ful makeup look. Some of my favourite collaborations have been Rachel Roy, Halston, Tory Burch, J. Mendel and Tibi.

12 Who is your favourite musician?I’m a huge fan of hip-hop so can’t leave out the time that I got to dance onstage with Flo Rida at one of his concerts. His music is so infectious and fun, you just can’t help but dance.About your Limited Edition 1991 Lip Pal-ette13 Why did you decide to create a limited edition lip palette for your 20th anniver-sary?The palette is a celebration of 20 years in the business. It features my original 10 lip colours and introduces 10 bright, wearable shades that can be blended or mixed with each other to create perfect colour. As a freelance makeup artist, I was always looking for shades with a brown base – the most natural complement to a women’s skin tone. I set out to create a combination of prefect nudes and flattering classic tones. The texture was important too, since at the time most lip colours were overly matte or too greasy. I came up with a creamy matte, unscented formula that looked and felt nat-ural on the lips. The 10 new shades are all about options, and they’re fun alternatives to your eve-ryday lip colour. There are punchy pinks (Coral Gables, Atomic Pink and Pink Mar-tini), luscious reds (lady Ruba, Watermelon and Candied Red) and deep berry shades (Berry Punch, Hot Berry, Cosmic Lily). They are all bright, refreshing and very wearable.14 What’s the process for creating new shades?Inspiration for shades comes from every-thing I see in my daily life – from fabrics to jewellery to food (like pink popsicles or dark chocolate). The shade Lady Ruba was inspired by my long-time creative director Ruba Abu-Minah, who is fearless with col-our and has the coolest taste. When creat-ing all the new shades I made sure that they wear wearable and looked pretty on real women. In fact, I tested different versions of all the shades on women in my office.15 What have you done with the Bobby Brown team to celebrate your 20 years of business? As part of the brand’s 20-year celebrations, I co-hosted the Dress for Success 2011 gala with my brand president Maureen Case. Everyone had an amazing time at the Car-ibbean-themed party and most importantly, we raised a lot of money and awareness for a cause that’s close to my heart.Find your Bobbi Brown products in any leading department store or direct at www.bobbibrown.co.uk
9 Which Bobbi Brown launch are you most proud of?The 2010 launch of the Pretty Powerful campaign was so special be-cause it represents everything that I believe about beauty, confidence and empowering women. I especially loved walking around New York and seeing all the billboards, taxi tops and phone kiosks with inspiring before-and-after images.10 Do you ever see people in every day life using your products?I travelled to China for the first time in 2010, and loved meeting my team there, as well as so many loyal fans and customers. While visit-ing the Great Wall, I saw someone using a Bobbi Brown lip-gloss and we started chatting. How cool is that?11 What has inspired you and served as great moments to remember over the years? The time I’ve spent, and the friendships I’ve made at Jane Addams
High School for Academic Careers in the Bronx has been so special to me. The students have and continue to inspire me in so many ways. It was a huge honor to be invited to attend President Obama’s inaugu-ration in January 2009. I did Dr. Jill Biden’s makeup for the occasion and got to ride in the presidential motorcade and sit up on the platform behind the President during his address. What a thrill.
“Natural confidence and effortless glamour, my definition of what real beauty is all about.”
Capturing the spirit, love and emotion of your perfect day.

MODSThe Mods rocked the classic 60s edge of thick black eyeliner. This shone through at Bottega veneta & Jean Paul Gaultier’s A/W 11 catwalk. Keeping the eye shadow light and to a minimum, and adding a bold line of black whipping from the inner part of the eyes to the outer edge and
beyond. For an update on this look, bring the bold line back on itself and follow the crease of the eyelid…. think Twiggy! Keep the cheeks lightly dusted with bronzer and the lips in a nude con-

BACK 2 BASICS
Our body works hard for us, so the least we can do is return the favour by leav-ing our skin soft, luminous and ready for harsh climates. With autumn draw-ing in and winter looming, our skin is calling out for some serious moisture. Keeping our bodies exfoliated is a must but more importantly our skin needs a loving moisturiser. Whether your moisturiser is cream or oil based… treat yourself with a daily rub in. You’ll never turn back. Here are my 3 hot picks…
Tried and tested
2BIO OILThis moisturising oil is good for stretch marks, scars,
uneven skin tone, ageing and dehydrated skin. I have dry skin and found it absorbed with minimal residue keeping my skin looking and feeling soft and hydrated throughout the day. A big thumbs up from me with a Warning! If your planning on wearing a garment of silk or satin make sure you lightly dab yourself down with a towel as the light residue will rub off leaving greasy patches.
1DECLEOR AROMA CONFORT – SYS-TEME CORPS NOURISHING BODY
MILKThis is by far my favourite. The body milk is perfect for dry skin. Its creamy and velvety texture left my skin feeling soft and smooth. The fragrance left me feeling uplifted. It lasted throughout the day and despite the oily ingredients like Oil of Meadowfoam, Shea butter and Magnolia essential oil, it didn’t leave an oily residue.
Love Simone
3ELEMIS SP@HOME SKIN NOURISH-ING BODY LOTION
My skin felt embraced by this cream. The concentrated milk left my skin with a satin soft and almost powdery finish. My skin was nourished throughout the day with a strong scent of maca-damia and jojoba oils embracing the air around me. Thoroughly recommended if you like a body moisturiser with substance.
With the harsh elements of Siberian winds, the ravishing effects of in-car heating and radia-tors, it’s time to get skin-savvy. Soft skin in a virtue to preserve whatever you age. Simone at TC walks you through her best loved and best performing this winter.

TRÈS CHIC Resturants
Known as a heavy weight restaurant and bar chain, it is, some may be-lieve to be a brand not highly assimilated with a girls night out, but wait, surrounded by beautiful Georgian buildings, the iconic St.Nicolas Mar-ket in Bristol, a plethora of shops, restaurants, bars and with its healthy capacity, clean decor and undercover outdoor terrace, it offers much for the corporate diner and evening cocktail aficionado a-like. Some of you may also be unaware that the chain offers sumptuous sur-roundings in Bath’s historical home. Right in the hustle of the city, over 2 floors, large and boastful, but, equally snug and inviting.
On this particular TC evening we decided to venture further than our Bristol stomping ground and plum for Bath. We were lucky enough to be met by Jason, manager of the Slug and Lettuce Bristol, and Leanne, manager of Bath, to show us exactly what the venue had to offer.
We arrived at seven, excited about the lively at-mosphere in the city, and how beautiful the venue looked at night. We had a good look around the venue, and loved the cosy intimate seating areas, the smiley staff, and fresh decor, not to mention the beautiful toilets, (and lets face it, girls toilets in a venue are reasonably important!) Perfect for re-touching makeup and having a natter. The bar staff were as equally versed in the art of mixology (killer cocktail making) as they are with recommending worldly wines. We sat down for a catch up, and had several dishes from the menu to share. The food was lovely, and it was great to be able to chat casually, whilst grazing and drinking. The outdoor area really is an as-set; heated, cosy, and very pretty. With such great food, wine and cocktails, and set in a beautiful, contemporary environment, all it leaves this par-ty season is for you to add your own good com-pany. We will definitely be returning!
Bath and Bristol have separate function rooms - taking up to 80 in Bath, and 450 in Bristol - perfect for parties. Both venues boast continuous offers, two for one cocktails all day every day in Bath and in Bristol from 4pm Thursday through to Sunday. 50% off food on a Monday. Wine Wednesdays - with wine for only £10.95 a bottle.TC say: Challenge your ideas & get spoiled this Christmas with Slug & Lettuce Bristol & Bath.Cocktails are key at the Slug and Lettuce brand, and as offers are brimming you wouldn’t want to be considered sluggish by not taking up on them.

A change of SEASONSA restaurant with a family history as whole-some as the food, and with new London style concepts. If you didn’t know the stone arch and dark gates of Casamia, you may be hard pushed to find it. The streets of West-bury on Trym are hiding a secret, or one that the majority of ‘foodies’ & Ramsey’s Kitchen watchers have known for a long time.

This month Casamia celebrates its one year anniversary having enjoyed critical acclaim and broad media coverage since the crowning of Best Restaurant by Ramsey’s hit show, their suc-cess has blossomed. It has blossomed in to a new sub-brand providing Bristolians with a fantastic new dining experience
– Seasons.Casamia and Apt. This already Michelin starred restaurant houses the young culinary ge-niuses; Jonray and Peter Sanchez-Iglesias, and both were present at the recent unveiling of this progressive, innovative dining experience. Tres Chic were lucky enough to have the brilliant brothers divulge their latest vision, Peter explains; “In the UK we’re lucky enough to experience the changing of the seasons in a physical and emotional way. All too often we simply accept this or even feel the need to grumble about it. But Jonray and I want to embrace these amazing changes in the earth and celebrate what they bring. That’s why we’ve introduced ‘Seasons.Casamia’.”Jonray continues, “Not only will you see our interior details change each season but the whole Casamia experience will shift throughout the year. It means we can make the most of local produce, integrating truly seasonal ingredients when they are in their prime. We’ve also created a different environment within the restaurant itself, from new artwork to reflect and complement the seasons down to the detail of plants and herbs in our
courtyard garden.” When Tres Chic were invited to attend the un-veiling of Seasons.Casamia our background research was not difficult to uncover, having won best restaurant, and being just a year on, the waves of recommendation have flooded through the city via wagging tongues and media. We are truly lucky to have them. I am shocked however that since such acclaim that have rested on their laurels of success, but have continued to push the brand and the concept of Casamia to dizzying new heights in culinary capabilities! The Sea-sons.Casamia experience presents a truly unique dining experience in a setting that embraces an air of formality but, with homely touches and in-viting smiles, on the genuine side. It is clear that the restaurant has family blood running through it. This comes across in a way that is not dated or stuffy, but progressive and clear thinking. Peter & Jonray have executed a menu that has incorporated and embraced their family herit-age, but they haven’t stopped there. They have taken so far as to conjure memories of defining moments in their childhood, taste experience, and smell memory that is only passed down through a loving home, with ‘snacks inspired by Dad’ and Apple Pie creating the smell and feel of Grand-ma’s’ house they are docking their caps to the people that made them who they are today, and oh what an accolade! With a menu that tempts Chew valley smoked salmon, born of their memories of repeat trips to Chew valley as children, pickled root vegetables blanched in sweet cider vinegar & served on an over sized pebble, wild boar salami with fresh watercress from their fathers stream, smoked ap-ple juice and bay leaf which intends to bring back an acidic balance which brings back the flavours of the former dishes, and scrambled duck egg
Treschicmagazine.com I DECEMBER 2011 85
with pheasant and thyme, served in an egg box and with delicate gameyness again inspired by their father and finished with an aromatic thyme foam. How do they develop this inspiration I hear you cry? Well all of their ideas are painstak-
ingly developed in what they affectionately like to call ‘the geeks room’ upstairs in what was once their old apartment. They have decided to develop the Seasons.Casamia brand a step further again with the launch of their Development Kitchen under the name of ‘Apt’ (see what they did there?) Here you can have a cooking experience far beyond your wildest dreams, with bespoke master classes to private chefs’ table dinners. With a comfortable group of up to 6 in their incredibly designed development kitchen space they are able to cook for you privately in blow by blow process, whilst you and you sit at the stainless steel breakfast bar and enjoy your own guests and the cheeky and clever essence of the boys culinary talents and personality. You can even take a peek in to the ‘geeks room’ and look up on to the wall where the sketches of brilliance reside, this is where they painstakingly dissect every dish, and piece together the final edits of their recipes & menus. This is where Peter tells me they have many an argument and many a brilliant idea, the detail is quite phenomenal with even the typeface of the menu replicating the recipes their mother used to type herself as they were children. A few tears and tantrums have taken place in this brilliant space, but all in the name of art, and this art is cooking. For more information on the Apt dining experiences and christmas dining please con-tact : 01179 592884 . THE TOwN HOUSE Arrive to be greeted by Sami, an uber-French barman and server, who is Mr. Congeniality himself.
A townhouse is a term that historically alludes to an urban residence of an aristocrat who resides in a country house most of
the year. During the social season when prime balls and drawing rooms took place, the British peerage would flock to the city and hobnob in these refined quarters. Such elite connotations, how-ever, have taken a backseat at Townhouse Bar and Restaurant, where everyone is welcome and a patrician lineage (or lack thereof) has no bearing on the service you receive. Here, the populace of Bris-tol gather to break bread, drink and make merry. Formally known as Picture House East
(and before that The Picture House), Townhouse is the newly refurbished and anglicised outpost of Nick and vanessa Armitage. vanessa revealed that the deci-sion to rename the place Townhouse was inspired by the Georgian Townhouse in which the bar and restaurant are located, and by the modern British offerings on the updated menu. What were originally
categorised as Tapas are now appropriately termed Little Dishes, and there is a marked English representation on the wine list. The bill of fare also contains an ample
selection of Blighty cuisine, featuring cider sausages accompanied by mashed potato and English mustard and gravy, and belly of pork with mini rabbit pie drizzled in hot lightning (potatoes with apples and pears) cider sauce. With the modern English fare comes the
modern English atmosphere. Envisaged as a second home for locals, TheTownhouse is cultivating a relaxed and intimate vibe where patrons can drop by for a mid-after-noon cocktail; stop in for a nibble during the early evening; or satisfy a hunger pang with a three-course dinner in a cozy corner. When I arrived on a Wednesday night, there was a cheerful clinking of glasses mixed in with convivial chatter, permeating the casu-al space dotted with contemporary paintings and stylish chandeliers. I am immediately greeted by Sami, an
uber-French barman and server who is Mr. Congeniality himself. I believe he alone could make up for the intended homely

mood of Townhouse. He whisked me off to the bar and began a charm-ing banter on the differences between England and France. He recommended that I graze over some marinated olives and Hart’s Bakery bread while swilling a glass of Pinot Grigio as I waited for my dinner companion, and I eagerly obliged. After my dining partner arrived and
we were happily seated at our table, the meal promptly commenced. Starters we picked were a warm smoked salmon layered with smoked eel, perched on top of beetroot and potato pikelet served with sour cream and dill, and a rare roast beef with a fresh parsley and caper salad and a dollop of creamed horserad-ish. The light salad complemented the richness of the beef, while the creamed horseradish enhanced the flavor of the meat. The main courses were roast rump of
lamb and lamb shoulder slathered in blue cheese with black pudding bubble and squeak, finished with a mint sauce, and a whole roast lemon sole with a generous smattering of crumbed fresh langoustine tails and Morecambe bay potted shrimps with purple ratte pota-toes. Though not an ardent fan of black pudding, the pungency of it paired nicely with the soft lamb and the hint of mint. The sole was astonishingly moist and the potatoes both a delight to my sight and taste buds. Dessert then followed. The celebrated
River Café chocolate nemesis – which has been on the menu for an impressive eight years – and a cinnamon and nut-meg crème brulee were brought to the table. And there was no competition – the chocolate nemesis was the obvious winner of the two. It straddled a lus-cious line between mousse and ganache and tasted heavenly with a soupçon of crème fraîche. With the last bite of nemesis dissolving in my mouth, I was satisfied. vanessa checked in regularly
to make sure we were looked after, as did Sami, making jokes and explaining each dish. The service at Townhouse is one to be aspired to. The new cocktail bar launches during
the first week of November and Town-house will unveil a new private party room and screening room on the second floor, rendering the establishment an ideal venue for Bristolians’ social and profes-sional outings. The terrace will also be covered and heated for diners with a yearning for al fresco during the colder months, generating an inviting aura even on footpaths. Though the balls and drawing rooms of the Georgian era have passed, obliterating the need for a tradi-tional townhouse, there are still parties and gatherings aplenty on Whiteladies Road and beyond. So the Townhouse Bar and Restaurant continues the British social tradition in its own way, providing a playground for those who like to tipple and feast, social season or not.

THE PRIORYA luxury abode complete with lush gardens and a tranquil spa.
The Priory Restaurant has racked up quite a number of accolades recently, including a slot on the Sunday Times Top British Restaurants in 2010, coming in at number three in the South West. It has also had the pleasure of being the recipient of not one, but two prizes from Bath Good Food Awards this October – Best Chef (Head Chef Sam Moody) and Best Fine Dining Wine List. With such heady honors it would seem easy for the restaurant to rest on its laurels for at least a little while, but not for The Priory. Its team pushes for further distinction and innova-tion, introducing an autumn lunch offer with a new seasonal menu. Guests can now feast on two courses for a mere £19.95 – it’s usually £32.00 for three-courses – during the weekdays. Just minutes from the center of Bath, The Pri-
ory Restaurant is found at The Bath Priory Hotel – a luxury abode complete with lush gardens and a tranquil spa. These facilities can of course be enjoyed with your meal (think of it as a very ex-pensive but utterly worthwhile dessert) if you’d like to make a day of it at this deluxe English ha-ven. But let’s get back to the food. For those with a craving for modern European
fare and on the hunt for a local dining establish-ment that does sumptuous repasts with decorum, The Priory is your answer. With an organic kitch-en garden on site to ensure freshness in produce (what’s not available here is sourced in the South West), the restaurant is under the direction of two Michelin starred Executive Head Chef Michael Caines. Upon arrival, I am greeted by the maître d’ and
led to a cozy lounge featuring a marble fireplace, damask curtains and plush sofas to sink into while I leaf through the menu and sample the amuse-bouche of salmon mousse, compliments of the chef. A glass of 2009 Grüner veltliner Fed-erspiel Kollmütz, Erich Machherndl is recom-
mended when I ask for a dry white wine and it does not disappoint. Fruity, textured white with apples and pears and a hint of mint on the finish, it whets my appetite for what’s ahead. Just as I feel the onset of a warm wine buzz, I am taken to the main dining room – a light and airy space decorated with crisp, white table linens; velvet and leather hard-back chairs; and cream carpeting, overlooking four-acres of the hotel’s magnificent gardens. Seated by the window, I bathe in the early after-
noon sunlight and enjoy my second amuse-bouche of the day – a butternut squash soup – dipping a variety of artisan breads into the soup from the generous breadbasket. My lunch companion and I have ordered slow cooked Hartley Farm parsnip and soft boiled Aylesbury duck egg for starters, and tarte fine of king oyster mushrooms and slow roast loin of local salt marsh lamb as the main dishes. The Hartley Farm parsnip is the winner of the two appetizers for what we favor. This appetizer is a surprisingly hearty affair – the parsnip is of a ro-bust, delicate texture, dressed in sweet vanilla but-terscotch and tangy parsley pesto. The entrees then arrive to much fanfare, as we delight in the rich-ness in flavor of the king oyster mushrooms and the lentil ragout, and relish the tender braised shoulder of savory lamb and playful croquette. I artfully ar-range the mushrooms from the tarte fine and the carrots from the lamb on a slice of warm pain de campagne and eat silently, savoring the experience as I might have a sunset. A meal at The Priory can easily stretch to three
hours, maybe four, establishing itself as the kind of place that rewards the companionship of those who love one another as much as they do pleasure and indulgence. Highlighting the refined elements over the rustic, sacrificing hip on the altar of el-egant, The Priory is Très Chic’s pick of the month for where ladies who lunch should gather.

Our resident travel writer Rosa Park takes us through the highlights of the City on her recent trip through arguably one of the most interesting destinations on the globe.Boasting luxury, style and efficiency, Seoul is undeniably a Très Chic kind of place – day time trips to historic sites and museums are complemented with a nonstop, pulsating nightlife of bars and clubs, while marathon shopping sessions are coupled with tasty treats at venues ranging from ritzy it-spots to reliable hole-in-the-walls. Most travellers endow cities like Las vegas with the 24-hour party status, but nowhere is a hedon-ist’s dream fully realised as it is in Seoul. Whether you are idly sipping artisan cof-fees at posh cafés; devouring dduk-bok-ki (a popular spicy rice cake snack) at a food stall at 3 am; fist pumping to house music in jam-packed three-story clubs; soaking in a mélange of contemporary and traditional art at Leeum; or maxing out your credit card at one of the many swanky boutiques or laby-rinthine markets, you are bound to have a grand time in this urban jungle of consump-tion. A vibrant and bustling city of over ten mil-lion people with a panoply of subcultures, you could very well explore Seoul for weeks and miss out on some of the best local spots. As an antidote to typical tourist guides, here is an insider list with tips on fabulous hotels, sites actually worth seeing, joints with fan-tastic grub and booze, shops that will tempt you to burn a hole in your wallet, and dance floors that warrant sinfully late nights.
Where to stay:IP Boutique Hotel is Korea’s first boutique hotel, situated in the middle of the lively Itaewon district now known for its eclectic
array of international cuisines. The hotel’s exterior is reminiscent of a Mondrian paint-ing and its interior is equally artsy. Punctu-ated with Pop Art paintings, the sleek white rooms come with futuristic bathrooms made of transparent glass. 737-32 Hannamdong Yongsangu. If you want to go ultra luxe, head to The
