Tredegar Museum

Proposal for Interpretation and re-display

• Important collection of artefacts• opportunity to develop a coherent and

thematic storyline • social and industrial heritage of the town of

Tredegar • many of these innovations are of National

importance.

• Blaenau Gwent’s Access to Heritage Project could help develop a coherent interpretation plan for a ‘modern’ redisplay of the gallery

• Wall displays provide historic context for the museum’s artefacts which “tell the story” of the town and its people

• chronological, circular journey - professionally designed and printed wall displays

• complemented by new cases in the centre of the space housing displays of relevant artefacts

• tell the story of the area from the ‘pre-industrial’ era to the modern day

• focus upon social history of the town and the people who lived and worked in Tredegar over the last 3 centuries

• people focussed approach

• The key issue will be funding• apply for a substantial award of money

through the landfill tax fund • match funding required as the award is not

100% • grants from other sources be used as ‘match

funding’ to unlock the 90% available through the landfill tax scheme

• demonstrate that the project has community backing

• necessary to consult with the public and local organisations

• meetings, workshops or ‘drop-in’ consultations

• co-operation with the museum ‘body’ of volunteers

• distinct ‘phases’ / convenient cut-off points in the history of the town, which reflect economic and social changes.

• Themes will need to be discussed and agreed• a starting point for discussion
