TREAD-o-QUEST
INTRODUCTION:
Celestial bodies continue their vision on the earth once in a few years.
You are the space scientist working on this area .Once again reports
about some unidentifiable objects have shown up. The objects were
found to be non-reactive passive and colourful ones. You have to
design such a robot which can detect the red, green, blue objects
while following a narrow path inaccessible by humans.
TASK:
Teams have to build an autonomous bot that follows a white line on a
black surface and blink LEDs as described below.
ARENA DETAILS:
1. The track is of dimension 2.5m × 2.5m.
2. As shown, the track is of width 3cm and consists of both smooth
and sharp turns.
3. The dimension of anti-node is 3cm x 3cm.

![Page 3: Tread O Quest](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022072009/55cf9210550346f57b9330c1/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
BOT SPECIFICATIONS, DIMENSION AND
FABRICATION:
1. The bot must fit within a box of dimensions
250mmx250mmx250mm (l x b x h).
2. The team can use on- board/off-board power supply. Off-board
supply must be from a battery source. However depending upon
the situations adapter supply may be provided
3. Bot must be started individually by only 1 on-board switch.
However, a team may have a separate on-board switch for
restart. This switch will have to be shown before the run to the
organisers.
4. The bot can expand during the run, however it must not leave any
of its part on arena.
5. The autonomous bot must be stable and must be able to stand on
its own at the beginning of the run when put in the starting zone.
Bots not fulfilling this criterion will be disqualified.
6. During the run, the autonomous bot should not damage the
arena or make any marks while traversing the track. Any bot
found damaging the arena will be immediately disqualified. The
final decision is at the discretion of the coordinator.
7. The bot should not separate or split into two or more units.
8. The teams are allowed to use ready-made micro-controller
boards/ready-made sensor kits. However the teams are not
allowed to use ready-made Lego kits or any such assemblies
![Page 4: Tread O Quest](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022072009/55cf9210550346f57b9330c1/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
9. Violating any of the above criteria will lead to the straight
disqualification of the team. The decision of the organiser will be
final.
CONTROL:
1. The bot must be completely autonomous.
2. It should not receive any input (other than power) from outside
the arena.
POWER SUPPLY:
1. The machine must use an on-board /off board electric power
supply.
2. 12V is maximum voltage that may be supplied to the bot.
GAME RULES:
1. The teams will have to submit their bot before the start of the
competition. Only those teams which submit their bots will be
allowed to participate. The bot will be handed back to the team
during the time of their run. They’ll be given 2 minutes to do any
hardware changes if they wish. If the teams are found to alter
their code after depositing their bots, they’ll be disqualified. They
![Page 5: Tread O Quest](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022072009/55cf9210550346f57b9330c1/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
are however allowed to make any other hardware changes.
2. The bot must work strictly on the principle of line following.
3. At the start of the task, the bot will be placed at the starting
point. Only 1 member from the team is allowed to be near the
game field while starting the bot.
Starting Procedure:
1. The bot must be started by only 1 on-board switch.
2. The starting procedure of the bot should be simple and should
not involve giving bot any manual force or impulse in any
direction.
3. Teams can have a separate on-board switch for restart. This
switch will have to be shown before the run to the judges.
4. The organisers will start measuring time as soon as the entire bot
completely enters the track.
5. The bot has to follow the track from “START” point to “STOP”
point as shown in arena.
![Page 6: Tread O Quest](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022072009/55cf9210550346f57b9330c1/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
PROBLEM STATEMENT:
ROUND 1:
1. In this round the bot has to simply follow the white line and it
has to count the number of antinodes on the bridge.
2. At each antinode it has to blink the red LED.
3. At the end it has to show the total number of antinodes by
glowing LEDS.
N.B. The total number of antinodes is less or equal to 6.
ROUND 2:
1. In this round the antinodes will be of 3 different colours i.e. RED,
GREEN and BLUE.
2. The bot has to count the number of different coloured antinodes
and it has to glow the LEDs (RED, GREEN, BLUE) in a sequence i.e.
in decreasing order of number of different coloured antinodes.
3. The LEDs should be on until the participants are not asked to
turn it off.
![Page 7: Tread O Quest](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022072009/55cf9210550346f57b9330c1/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
JUDGING AND SCORING POLICY:
ROUND 1:
1. The participant gets 30 points if the bot covers the whole path
from ‘start’ to ‘stop’.
2. For each correct blinking of led the participant gets 20 points.
3. 30 points is given for the correct number of glowing LEDS i.e.
total number of antinodes, 20 points will be deducted for wrong
display.
The maximum score of round1 is (60 + no. of antinodes x 20).
ROUND 2:
1. The antinodes have 30 points each as the bot surpasses an
antinode it is awarded the corresponding points.
2. For each correct sequential blinking of LEDs the bot gets 20
points.
3. The bot gets bonus 30 points on completing both rounds
successfully.
4. The maximum score of round 2 is (30 x no. of antinodes + 60).
TOTAL SCORE= (150+ no. of antinodes x 50)
![Page 8: Tread O Quest](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022072009/55cf9210550346f57b9330c1/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
N.B.:
1. The participant can take at max 3 restarts. At each restart the
time will be recorded. The best one will be taken as the final
team score.
2. In case of tie, the ranking will be done on the basis of time taken
to complete the task.
TEAM SPECIFICATION:
A team may consist of (a maximum of) 4 participants. Students
from different educational institutes can form a team.

All students with a valid identity card of their respective
educational institutes are eligible to participate.
