Hall Headlines News and Information from the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame Summer 2019 President’s Message The Path Forward by Darrell Barron L ast year I was blessed to become President of the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame (TRCHF). Since then, working with the Board and our many great volunteers, we up- dated our mission statement and made some great strides in member benefits and increased recognition of our brand. Brand Recognition & Member Benefits One example of increasing our brand recognition and a direct member benefit was the purchase of a table at the Gold Card Reunion during the NFR in Las Vegas. We held a drawing among our Sus- taining Members for 4 sets of 2 tickets each at the TRCHF table…a value of $170 per couple. As you can imagine, a lot of folks put their names in the drawing and TRCHF was well represented at this stellar event. A New Mission Statement Thanks to Board member Wayne Whitehead, we revised our mission statement to better reflect our activities. Our new mission statement is “Preserving the Past & Promoting the Future”. Since our inception, we have done an excellent job of “Preserving the Past” with over 300 biogra- phies and photos of Texas cowboys and cow- girls…not just the many world champions but also the lesser known Gold Card inductees who make up the history of Texas rodeo. Recently we have enlarged our scope to in- clude “Promoting the Future” which includes our scholarship program. This year we added the “Horizon Honoree” program which recognizes outstanding high school and college rodeo ath- letes who are the future of rodeo. This year the “Horizon Honorees” from the Texas High School Rodeo Association Region 3 were Andee Shae Nored, Hadley Miller and Cutter Overton. They along with their parents were our guests at the 2019 RODEO REUNION & INDUCTION. Our 2019 Western Heritage Inductee, world renowned an- nouncer Bob Tallman introduced and briefly in- terviewed each of them. What a thrill! This coming year, we will be working to for- malize “Horizon Honoree” including the criteria, requirements and how to apply. Make Plans for 2020 If you missed it, the 2019 RODEO REUNION & INDUCTION was an awesome event with a record crowd of over 600 attendees. Will be announcing the 2020 date very soon and nominations for 2020 will be open until July 31, 2019. We have already received several excellent nominations. In order to nominate and vote on the 2020 Inductees, your 2019-2020 membership must be current. The 2018-2019 memberships will expire May 31, 2019. For those who have not yet paid for their 2019-2020 membership a dues renewal form will be mailed to you at the end of May. Thanks to each of you for your support and have a Blessed and Safe Summer. The Past, Present and the Future of the Texas Rodeo Hall of Fame took a moment to gather on the steps of the Cowtown Colesium. Horizon Winners: Cutter Overton, Hadley Miller, Andee Shae Nored with Ricky Bolin (center) and the Rodeo Queens.

PROMOTING THE FUTURE through the Scholarship ProgramMajor kudos goes to TRCHF Inductee and Board member Tina Hodge for being thefirst to recognize the need to support the youth of today in order to Promote theFuture of rodeo. Several years ago, Tina came to the Board with a proposal to create a scholarship program designed to help high school seniors with fundingtowards college or trade school upon graduation. The Board agreed but stipulatedthat Tina serve as chair and develop a program that benefited TRCHF members andkept the Board out of the selection process. That is exactly what she did. Each year, TRCHF members submit applications available on the website for their

children or grandchildren who are high school seniors. Three students are thenselected by an anonymous team of educators recruited by Tina. They and their parentsattend the TRCHF Induction as guests of the Board. Scholarship Committee Chair Tina Hodge introduces the Scholarship winners, lists their accomplishments andhonors them with a plaque. Then upon their enrollment, a $2,000 check is mailed tothe school they are attending credited specifically to their account. Congratulations to this year’s recipients… Ashlyn Williams, Chet Weitz & Alexis Ghormley.
