What to Know Regarding Travel• As a U.S. Citizen there are no required shots for traveling• A Passport is required for entry into the Country• There is an entry fee of $10, that can be paid with cash

or credit cards• The currency of Nicaragua is known as the  Córdoba, but

many business will accept US Dollars. The current exchange rate is 1  Córdoba, to 0.037 US Dollars.

• Though a safe city, taxis and travel should be arranged through the airport, hotel or your host to ensure safety.

What to expect when you get there:• Spanish is the native language of Nicaragua, though

many business professionals do speak English• It is not uncommon or considered rude for “cat calls”

and vocal comments regarding a woman's appearance as she walks down the street, this is generally meant to be harmless.

• Due to rundown streets, no ADA requirements and sometimes aggressive crowds this is not an ideal location for our employees with disabilities as they may struggle to get around. Previous arrangements will need to be made.

What will you eat/drink?• Common food items served are rice, beans, pork, chicken,

beef and tortillas• Western travelers are encouraged to bring bottled water• Most U.S bottled soft drinks are available• Street food is a common meal during the day rather than a

restaurant meal• Beverages served from street vendors are often served in a

plastic bag but cups can be requested.

Business Etiquette• Major business decisions are often made outside of formal

meetings. Be prepared to discuss business over lunch and/or dinner. Alcohol is not frowned upon at these events.

• Holy week, which is the week leading up to Easter is a widely celebrated holiday and many business will shut down.
