5 minutes’ bus ride or 20 minutes’ walk from Reading train station

Travel information for London Road campusThe London Road campus is conveniently situated only 15 minutes’ walk to central Reading, with its excellent train and bus links and shopping and other entertainment opportunities.

Travel on foot Reading train station and the bus station is only 20 minutes’ walk, 0.7 miles, from campus, so it is easy to travel to London Road by public transport from many different locations within and outside Reading. See the map above for a suggested walking route between the campus and central Reading.

London Road is only a 10-15 minute walk from the edge of the main University Whiteknights campus at Shinfield Road. Walk along Redlands Road (which is a bit of a hill), go straight on into Shinfield Road, and a pedestrian entrance will be on your left.

See www.walkit.com for more infor-mation and tips on walking to work.

Travel by bicycle Quicker than walking, but just as healthy, cycling is another cheap way of commuting to work. You can save money and get fit at the same time.

The redevelopment of the London Road campus includes covered cycle parking facilities and showers in buildings 33 and 16. Reading Council’s recommended cycle routes from the town centre can be found at www.reading.gov.uk/residents/parking-road-and-travel/CyclinginReading

Make sure you have good powerful lights and consider a high visibility jacket to ensure you can be seen in the dark evenings. Good quality locks and high vis jackets are available

at a reduced price from Security in Whiteknights House.

We are also considering developing a Bike buddy scheme, where experienced cyclists accompany less experienced cyclists on their journey to and from work. This could be a one off to show the best route and things to look out for, or a longer term arrangement for company, similar to car sharing. If you would be interested in this idea, either as a guide or participant, please email [email protected] to let us know.

Travel by carThe proximity to Central Reading means that car parking space is very limited and will be strictly by permit only. Please consider leaving your car at home if at all possible. This will ensure parking is available for those who need their car throughout the day; avoid you being stuck in central Reading traffic; and may also allow us to provide parking permits for those placement students with greatest need. We hope to have one day permits available for occasional use.www.reading.ac.uk/parking

Consider car sharing, the University has a dedicated car share site to match up potential sharers. www.rucarsharing.com

If you need a car during the day consider the University Car club which can be booked by the hour. www.reading.ac.uk/cag-carclub.aspx
